HLC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before.
-
There are many changes in the physical forces of the body since last we had same here. Many have been for improvements. The general conditions through the throat, lungs and bronchi show a great deal of improvement, though there are still congestions that should be cared for.
-
The conditions at present that cause the greater distress are in the lower portion of the jejunum, or in the caecum; while the real disturbances arise in the duodenum.
-
Here we find - from the general strain, sometimes too much of the conditions that are not so well for a digestive system - we have a form of laceration or ulceration in the duodenum. This causes a great deal of pressure in the system; causing pain and the forming of gas. With the connections and the inclinations in the caecum, it gives rise to a dilation in the colon itself just after the caecum or the appendicial area.
-
Applications of different manners are to be made for these conditions, yet both are to be taken into consideration.
-
First, we would take a colon enema. Use a colon tube, but do not attempt to clear the whole of the colon nor to dilate same too much at once. In and with a colon tube, use at least half a gallon of water - not all at once, but sufficient to cleanse the colon thoroughly. Have this body temperature, and to each quart put a level teaspoonful of table salt and half a teaspoonful of baking soda. Dissolve these thoroughly. Such a colonic can and may best be taken by self; but use the colon tube and at least inject or insert it - after the beginning - to at least half the length of the colon tube, see? not more than that.
-
Then, every other night, for five nights, apply the Castor Oil Packs over the whole of the abdomen. Let this extend over the liver and the lower portion of the stomach, so that ALL of the duodenum and abdomen is covered by the Oil Pack. Have at least three thicknesses of flannel thoroughly saturated and wrung out of the Castor Oil, after this has been heated or warmed. Apply directly to the skin itself, you see, covering with cloths to prevent soiling the linens. Then apply an electric pad to keep same warm, and let it remain on for at least one hour.
-
After the first of such applications, begin with taking ENO Salts each morning before a meal is taken; a teaspoonful stirred in a glass of water.
-
Then after the fifth application of the Castor Oil Packs, take a whole bottle of Castoria, but be at least twelve hours in taking same; that is, take about a quarter to half a teaspoonful every thirty minutes until the whole bottle has been taken.
-
After this has acted thoroughly, then flush the system with a saline eliminant, - such as Rochelle Salts, Sal Hepatica, or ANY of such natures, - Pluto or Honeyida water, or any of these that are easier for the body to take. Preferably such would be taken of an evening, you see, to flush the system.
-
Then, throughout the period be careful as to the matter of the diet, and for some little time afterward.
-
DO NOT eat fried foods. DO NOT eat white bread. DO NOT eat white potatoes. DO NOT eat spaghetti and cheese.
-
Use rather buttermilk with bread - such as corn bread or whole wheat toast - crumbled in same; cereals as steel cut oats well cooked, and dry cereals that carry the vitamins in same such as Post Toasties, with plenty of milk, and malted milks.
-
The meats should consist of fish and fowl, but these never fried, - rather roasted, broiled, baked or the like. Keep to these, with sufficient of the green vegetables; as plenty of carrots - grated preferably, if taken raw - but take them both raw and cooked; cabbage in slaw, thoroughly grated, and used with whatever character of dressing is desired.
-
Keep away from soft drinks that carry carbonated waters. Keep away from any drinks that have malt in same. However, malted milk is very well. If the raw egg yolk is taken in malted milk once a day it will be most beneficial.
-
Do these if we would bring the better forces for this body, ridding the system of the disturbances.
-
And if periods should arise when there is a burning or hurting through the stomach or abdomen, take a quarter teaspoonful of ALCAROID - first dissolved in a little water, then the glass filled, and then a full glass of water taken afterward.
-
Do not do just part of these, but ALL - if the body would prevent a great deal of serious trouble later, - from ulcers as well as the appendicial disturbances.
-
Do as given and we may eliminate the sources and the causes of the conditions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/15/41 Wife wrote that [481] was feeling better - they were following the instructions in the rdg.
R2. 1/30/41 Wife’s letter: “[481] had his last Castor Oil Pack last Thursday and did what rdg. called for and is still on a diet at home and he says he watches when he eats out. He feels so much better and pain is gone, although he seems to be very tired at times. Poor thing, he does work very hard and such long hours. He won’t be home until about 2 this a.m. and maybe later than that. [Ass’t Mgr. of shoe store] I think just the diet will fix him up from now on.
R3. 5/17/41 “[481] is feeling very well and is still working hard.”
R4. 10/20/42 He wrote that on great urging from his wife he had quit working for the shoe store and was now in a defense plant, “I like my work very much and my hours are swell. I work 8 hrs. and no more. On Sats. I am home by 3:30 and feel fine. I have gained just about 10 lbs. which is not bad. I get my rest and sleep regularly and eat like a farm hand.”
R5. 3/1/43 Mother [482] wrote: “[481] is fine now.”
R6. 2/5/44 Wife wrote: “[481] was put in 1A and he was inducted and left yesterday morning. He asked for the Navy and he got it.”
R7. 12/6/44 He wrote: “You don’t know how much I appreciate the picture you sent me of yourself. I wouldn’t take anything for it. I sent it home to […] (wife) for our bedroom. Moving around like we do there is too much chance of getting it broken or lost. I sure thank you again for it.”

B1. See 481-3 on 3/16/38 for bronchitis and pleurisy.
B2. 1/8/41 “I don’t know what is wrong and I don’t want to go to a doctor until I hear from you. I have developed a very severe pain across my stomach; it continually hurts just like something gripping me there. I took some medicine, thinking it might be constipation, but with no relief, so now I am afraid of appendicitis. The doctor once told me I had to watch that. Also I tire easily.”
