This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of April, 1927, in accordance with request made by his parents, Mr. [550] and Mrs. [639].

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the Universe, and the Universal Forces, giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited, in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane, giving time, place, and the name, and that in that life which built or retarded the development for the entity, giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how.

2. EC: We have the entity and those relations with the Universe and Universal Forces, as do appear in the present experience through the urges as are latent and as are being manifest through the will’s forces as applied in the life.

3. In entering the earth’s plane we find those coming under the influence of Leo, in Jupiter and Uranus, with the benevolent influence in Venus and in Mercury. Hence we have one that is an enigma to many, yet with these conditions turned in the correct channels the entity will go far towards establishing a name for self that will be remembered many days when this entity has passed from this experience.

4. One that has exceptional abilities, then, in many lines, and these may be turned into either good or bad, as is seen, though the influence in Leo gives the quick change in the entity’s attitude towards conditions.

5. One, then, that is weak in bodily conditions at times, and again strong in mental and in activity of the physical.

6. One that has abilities that go in many directions in the action of the physical forces of the body.

7. One, then, well to be trained in athletics and in those conditions that have to do with the great outdoors.

8. One that would be well in the field of the civil engineer, or in that of the gatherer of data as pertaining to archaeological conditions, for these in a way and manner (and the cause will be seen) offer to the entity special interest.

9. In the elements as go to make up the changes, often the appearance to those viewing actions of the entity is that little of sentiment enters in the entity, yet very, very, often for the minor sentiments the entity is controlled in its actions.

10. In the influences then as seen in Jupiter and in Uranus, we find these show the ennobling influences in the life, yet these at times are turned in directions when the ability seems turned toward that which would bring very detrimental conditions to the body, in such, as has been seen in the manner and the way the entity appears to those who are as the pals or chums of the body.

11. Likes and dislikes, then, are very strong in the entity, and the usage of same is strong in the entity’s application of likes and dislikes; that is, the entity turning to the usage of those, those disliked or those liked are an active force in the entity’s own action - that is, the will of the entity and self supreme, to the entity’s way of thinking. Hence, well that this be turned in the right channels, else the good may be evil spoken of, and these bring to the entity the other side of the life, which is as remorse to the entity, which is as destructive as physical disability would be.

12. In the appearances and the urges as seen from same:

13. In the one before this we find in that period when the peoples were embarking from the English shore for the new world. The entity then that one who kept the record of those that were sent from the prisons. Then in the name Alden, and the entity gained through that experience, for many were the favors shown in service to others, and the urge as is seen, the entity does not desire to see any suffer imprisonment, and is then opposed to capital punishment.

14. In the one before this we find in the Roman rule, the entity among those who builded in the hill when the city first established there as Rome [See 4840-1, Par. R6], and the entity then in the name Ignaus. The entity gained and lost, for the turning of the conditions of power into self’s own interest without respecting others brought those detrimental conditions in the end in that experience. The urge as is seen, the study of outdoors, and the application of athletic forces towards physical prowess of the body is as worshipful to the entity, and the entity envies one of great physical strength. This may be turned, however, into gain, by the applying self to those conditions that will bring the better conditions of the physical body.

15. In the one before this we find in that land of the Chaldeans, when the peoples were called out to make a peculiar people. The entity then in the land that was the residence of him called, and a friend of same. Then in the name Uldian, and the entity gained through that period in the latter portion of the life or experience, for in the companionship of him called the entity gained in the better understanding of the relations between man and the Creative Forces as might be manifest in the earth plane. In the urge as is seen, that of the deep-seated love for those things that pertain to the spiritual, yet not satisfied with the ritual of same, or any service to the Most High through rote, and in this the entity may gain more through the personal application of self, even in those eccentricities as are shown in the present experience.

16. In the one before this we find in that period when the first conqueror from the North came into the land known now as the Egyptian country. The entity then among those who sought to explore those valleys and hills in which the old ruins were then being studied, and the entity then as the historian of that day. Gaining in the first, losing under oppression, and the urge as is seen is that of the desire to be free and loosened from every binding force, either in the manner of the physical or the spiritual mind, and in same will the entity find that the archaeological forces would offer the greater outlet for the development of the mind and of the satisfaction in gaining knowledge from same that would answer, and bring to the inmost self that peace and understanding as is being sought. Then in the name Idoullod.

17. In the abilities, then, as we find, these show that in the field of the outdoor, or in the study of hidden secrets or treasures, would the entity find the greatest field for the advancement of self in understanding and in giving to others through same the knowledge attained.

18. Serve the fellow man! for well that the entity ever keep first and foremost in the mind, the heart, the soul, that only in service to others may a body build from within that sureness that answers when the mind is to be eased from the turmoil of the life before or life as passed, for the service to man is the highest service as may be rendered to Him who gave that, “The earth is thine. Subdue same, magnifying my name in the earth.”

R1. 5/6/27 Mother [639]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

We are in receipt of your letter of the 25th April with the reading given for our son [4840].

We find it very interesting. From babyhood [4840] has always shown a great tendency for the outdoors and has always been very active. Four walls has always been too close for him, so he is not a bookworm.

He is interested in athletics, but as yet we haven’t known of his special interest in archaeology. We will watch for developments along that line.

I do not know as we fully comprehend the paragraph on “Likes and dislikes”. Would you please write me how you understand or interpret same. [4840] has been very decided in his likes and dislikes.

The former appearances in the earth’s plane are very unusual and interesting and shows many characteristics already manifested in [4840]. He has already said “I don’t know but what I would like to be a construction Engineer”. He is now in his first year High School, and selected for himself for this year a Ranch School in Wyoming.

I do not clearly understand just what is meant in the third former appearance in the land of the Chaldeans. Especially where it says “the entity may gain more through the personal application of self, even in those eccentricities as are shown in the present experience”.

Would you please write me your understanding of same?

The rest of the reading I believe we understand and feel we are glad to have it and that it will be of assistance to us in our trying to guide [4840] in the future in such a way that he may find true happiness.

R2. 5/11/27 EC’s letter to [4840]‘s parents:

Mr. [550] and Mrs. [639] …, Fla.

Dear Mr. [550] and Mrs. [639]:

I am in receipt of yours of the 6th, and I assure you your letter is interesting indeed to us. It is at least gratifying to know that another father and mother feel the information gotten in these readings will be helpful to them in understanding their boy’s likes and dislikes, urges and inclinations, just as WE feel it has been helpful to us in understanding our own - for, as I told you, we are studying the phenomena and want to do so in a thorough, consistent, systematic, way and manner, and it is only when we have the sincere expressions from other parents that we know whether the information as gotten is as consistent to their way of thinking as it has been to us. But when we have so many - practically every one tells us the same thing, in a different way - we feel impelled to believe there is a vast deal more in the information than we have yet dreamed.

Now, respecting the questions you asked me, this is my understanding of the paragraph regarding likes and dislikes:

His likes and dislikes are very strong, but the WILL of the entity is even stronger, and unless he applies will at times he may allow likes and dislikes to become detrimental to his own best interests; that is, by not using will, or discrimination in the application of will towards his likes and dislikes, he might allow this to become his own undoing, and thus bring remorse and destructive forces, even to physical disability.

Now, as regarding the Chaldean experience:

As I understand, he must have been in that day an associate of Abraham. Hence became a student of man’s relation to God, as understood by the people of that period. However, in his present experience, while he has a deep reverence for things spiritual, the ritual, or routine of any sect or ism, is very much against his own feelings, and that in the application of this - were he to study his own peculiar motives and eccentricities, as regarding such spiritual understanding - he would arrive at an understanding that would be most beneficial throughout his own present life.

Now, I don’t know whether these explanations I have tried to outline will be helpful or beneficial, but I am in hopes they will assist you in gaining, possibly, a little bit better understanding of what is meant in the information given. Also how he may better apply this information in his own life.

R3. 5/23/27 Mother [639]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

In studying [4840]‘s reading we do not have a clear understanding of the paragraph which reads “In the influences then as seen in Jupiter and in Uranus, we find these show the ennobling influences in the life yet these at times are turned in directions when the ability seems turned toward that which would bring very detrimental conditions to the body, in such, as has been seen in the manner and the way the entity appears to those who are as the pals or chums of the body”.

We would appreciate it very much for you to write us just what you understand from same.

R4. 5/27/27 EC’s letter to Mrs. [639]: Now, regarding the question you ask in yours of the 23rd respecting [4840]‘s Life Reading: I wish I could talk to you in person about this, for I feel like I could better explain it - but I will try to do so in as few words as possible - but should there be anything that you don’t understand, don’t hesitate to ask me, and we will give you our explanation as we see it, from information that has been obtained in readings from time to time.

As you will see from the paragraph referred to, it refers to innate influences of the individual, classifying them as Jupiterian and Uranian. The Jupiterian meaning high, ennobling, benevolent, money, position, fame, and such kindred conditions. Uranian - in its turn - meaning eccentric, either very good or very bad, or in other words - an extremist, with or without reason.

Now, when we put these two together, we find this indicated by what is said: The body might bring detrimental conditions to itself by being misunderstood by his own associates, or pals, or chums, on account of such associates being unable to correlate the intent and purpose of the individual - or of [4840] - with what he says and what he does. Now, this possibly is rather a crude way to put this, but I hope you get just the idea I am trying to express. If you don’t, however, please let me know; for, as you know, we are trying to study these, and we hope that we can help each and everyone.

NEW WORLD ‘RACE’

ROME (AP) - Another race of ancient seafarers has been slipped in as a dark-horse entry in the who-discovered-America? sweepstakes.

A Rome University professor says he has found indications that the venturesome Etruscans probably got there almost 20 centuries before either Christopher Columbus or Leif Erickson was born.

Dr. Mario Gattoni Celli, a student of the still untranslated Etruscan language, said Saturday he had sent a report on his research to the Institute of Etruscan Studies at Florence.

“It cannot be excluded” he said, “that there was an Etruscan migration to South America, because the Etruscans were capable navigators and their ships were not much inferior to those in which Columbus made his voyage.”

Dr. Gattoni Celli bases his conclusions on what he says are similarities in language and in religious symbols between the Etruscans of the Italian peninsula and primitive tribes in the Guianas of Northern South America.

The Etruscans appeared in Italy out of nowhere long before Rome was founded. [See 4840-1, Par. 14.] There have been theories that they were seafaring people from the Near East, perhaps linked with the Phoenicians.

Their red-sailed ships plied the Mediterranean in trade seven to eight centuries B.C. Their statues had an Egyptian look. Their bronze work was the finest in the ancient Mediterranean world. They taught the Romans how to build the arch. Then they disappeared, swallowed up in expanding Rome.

Dr. Gattoni Celli told the Florence institute that a few Etruscan words he had translated also were used, with the same meaning, among primitive tribes in the Guianas, north of the Amazon. He said religious symbols used by the native priests there were identical with some of those inscribed on Etruscan tombs found north of Rome.

So far the institute has not given any opinion on his theory.
