GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.
-
EC: Now, we find there are many abnormal conditions for this body, and those existent, or many of same, are of long standing. So, with persistence and consistence may the beneficial conditions be used for the betterment of those existent conditions.
-
Now, these are conditions as we find them in this body. First:
-
IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this low in its rebuilding properties, while the general condition of same changes much according to the abilities of the body to eliminate through the regular channels the drosses of the system. Hence the change in the blood stream proper.
-
IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, in this we find much of the trouble of the body, for in times back there has been produced in the system those impingements, by conditions as existed at the time, that has brought to the body much of the detrimental conditions, through the effect these impingements have produced on the system, especially in functioning of some of the organs; those through that reflex of the mesenteric system, especially in the plexus of the hypogastric and pneumogastric centers. Hence the disturbance lies in the intestinal tract, in the organs of the pelvis, where specific conditions were created, in the digestive system, and reflexly to heart’s action, and to the upper portion of the body, so that the body became in part neurotic in the effects created in system. Then organs became involved, through this constant lack of those proper nutriments, and the metabolism of the system being thrown out of balance, the conditions, as we see as have been created, were brought about in the system.
-
IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE ORGANS THEMSELVES, many of the organs of the sensory system are as exceptional in their functioning, for the age and for the conditions of the body.
-
Lungs very good.
-
Digestive system (stomach proper), shows effects of the condition as has been existent, as does the liver, in the manner and way it functions.
-
The disturbances in the organs of the pelvis are of the nature as to produce inflammation, inability of the action of the extremities of the body in their regular or normal manner. Hence the condition as is created in all the centers.
-
Then, to bring about the better conditions for the body, we would use, in conjunction one with the other, three different modes of treating the system.
-
Prepare as this: To one gallon of rain water, add:
Sarsaparilla Root…4 ounces, Wild Cherry Bark…2 ounces, Yellow Dock Root…2 ounces, Elder Flower…4 ounces, Black Snake Root…2 ounces, Mandrake Root…15 grains, Buchu Leaves…20 grains.
Reduce by simmering (not boiling) to one quart. Strain while warm and add 4 ounces of pure grain alcohol, with 3 drams of Balsam of Tolu cut in it. Then add 10 minims Oil of Peppermint.
-
The dose would be teaspoonful four times each day, before each meal and before the resting at night. See? The diet at the time that this is being taken, or during this time, should be little of meats, though the juices and broths of meats may be taken freely, for the strength and vitality, as a mild stimulant as of wine, or of weakened spirits frumenti. Anything that gives strength or tone to the system, that will create a different effect of the alcohols created in the system.
-
During this same time, there should be at least twenty-six (26) deep manipulations, osteopathically given, see? consistently; that is, every second or third day, but these given in such a manner as first to loosen up those portions of the lumbar region, where the trouble first begun; not all of a sudden, but first relaxing the system, then gradually bringing into place all of these conditions.
-
To create the correct metabolism of the system, and to bring to the blood that rebuilding property as is necessary, and to bring the eliminations better for the system, use the Radium Applicator across the abdomen in evening, and across the solar plexus or back during day. Do that, in a consistent, in a persistent manner, and in from six to fifteen weeks we will find great improvement in this body.
-
We are through.
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/9/26 Her husband, Mr. [4847], in the afternoon of the same day, obtained his first Physical Reading.
R2. 2/15/26 Letter: ”…I received your reading and feel confident that you know where all of my ailments are. You have told me as well as I could have told you. My system is out of order, nothing is working right. Disturbance lies in the intestinal tract, as you say. I surely will try what you have prescribed for me to do. I will bless the day that my sister, Mrs. [4329], found someone that can cure me. This will relieve my mind greatly and nervousness too. Wishing you good luck, and I will let you know how I am,” [4848]
R3. 2/15/26 Husband [4847]‘s letter: ”…Does it make any difference whether Mrs. [4848] takes treatments from an osteopath or a chiropractor. Let me know by return mail. We have a chiropractor near us…”
R4. 2/17/26 EC’s letter to husband [4847]:
Mr. [4847] …, Ohio
My dear Mr. [4847]
I want to thank you for being so prompt in returning the forms. I’m certainly glad to know that you feel the reading coincides with the conditions as you know them yourself. This gives us, then, a great deal of hope that the suggestion for the improvement, when carried out, will be just as effective and certain as the readings were in the first place.
Now, in regard the treatment for Mrs. [4848], my experience is that where the suggestions are given for the osteopathic treatment, the chiropractor does not do as well. I certainly am in hopes that it will not prevent Mrs. [4848] from getting treatments, but I would certainly insist that she gets the osteopathic treatment if possible. I don’t know just how far you are from Dayton, or Columbus, but I know there are osteopaths in both of these places that are well acquainted with the work. I can’t give you the name of the one in Columbus, but the one in Dayton - Dr. L. A. Lydic, or Dr. Gravett. I certainly hope that you will let me hear from you from time to time, and if you don’t find that you are getting the results you desire, let’s check up on it and see what’s the trouble.
With kindest personal regards to you both,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
R5. 3/22/26 Sister [4329]‘s letter: ”…I had letters from my sister and brother-in-law last week. Mr. [4847] is using the medicine you advised and so is Mrs. [4848]. She had just received the Radium pad, so has only begun its use. I think bad weather conditions and perhaps lack of money is delaying the osteopathic treatments, but she expects to start them as soon as possible. I cannot hope for improvement very soon for either of them - it will take time - with persons of their years and chronic conditions, but I shall let you know as soon as they have results, and shall tell them that you advise another reading…”
R6. 4/7/26 Sister [4329]‘s letter: ”…Now a word about my sister, Mrs. [4848]. She is not doing well and I am much worried about her. Doctors have always had difficulty in prescribing for her, because a remedy for one ailment acts as an irritant to another condition. All her old symptoms are terribly accentuated, as is always the case preceding an acute illness. She has intense nervous distress in the back of her neck and all through her head - one side, especially, has been sort of numb for years and dizziness prevails - almost continuously - more acute at times than others. She longs for relief from that more than anything else. She gets only a little sleep and when that continued she becomes prostrated in every sense of the word. Her kidneys, thus taxed, poison the whole system, affecting the heart and all organs very acutely. Could you give her another reading at once, without the delay of arranging same with her? I am sure nothing would please her more, for she is almost hopelessly discouraged and so tired of suffering! She is so ill that the osteopath goes to give her treatments, so I am sure she is always at home - perhaps 10:30 or 11:00 in the forenoon would be a safe time - or the middle of the afternoon if more convenient for you. It is best for her not to know too much about her ailments, so I would request that you send her reading to me and if anything of a discouraging nature has been revealed I would in that case send it to her husband and have him to manage carrying out your instructions by telling her the truth, but not telling all, see?
“With grateful appreciation and kindest wishes to you and Mrs. Cayce, Sincerely…”

Background
Background
B1. 1/21/26 Sister [4329]‘s letter: ”…[4848], my sister, has been a terrible sufferer for over 30 years, since the abnormal birth of her only child. She is past 68 years old, yet seems younger in spite of her many afflictions. She has doctored with many of the best physicians, including specialists of Cleveland and Columbus. No one thoroughly understands her case, therefore she gets no relief from some of her worst symptoms. Each acute spell of illness is becoming harder to bear, and twice within the year it has taken weeks to ‘pull her through’ and get her on her feet again. Having always nursed her, I request that you send me her diagnosis and prescriptions, for my sister and her husband [4847]. She has been a real mother-sister to me, and her husband [4847] is a dear brother in every sense of the word. I have seen doctors look at sister [4848] with amazement as they would say, ‘Mrs. [4848], it is a wonder that you are LIVING, after all you have been through.’ It is her indomitable will and determination to keep up, which accounts for her present existence. She is always so hopeful and wants so much to get better. I know that she will put all her faith in you and so will Mr. [4847]. We shall all pray for your success in their behalf as well as for other poor sufferers for whom you prescribe. She never gives up hope - is always receptive and willing to believe that there is somebody in the world who can help her and WILL! Knowing her tendency to spread any good news which is for the benefit of those who are suffering, I cautioned her to say nothing of your powers until after your reading, feeling that the ‘thought force’ might be somewhat perverted…”
