[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. [4866].]
Time of Reading 3:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time.
-
GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [4866], present in this room, who seeks advice, counsel and guidance as to his mental and material affairs and associations. You will answer the questions which he submits regarding these.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [4866], present in this room - this we have had before.
-
Now, as we find regarding the mental and material affairs of this body, there has been considerable change in the mental and material conditions of the body since last we had same here. In some manners and ways, in a whole, has the body gone about to follow those suggestions that were outlined for the body. Changes have been made. While in some respects materially as yet not all that might be expected from the material conditions that should come about from the changes, this is due in part to the change itself and in the local conditions that have come about, that do exist in the general depression and the conditions locally that have been brought; yet in the mental and in many other respects do we find the changes to be more satisfactory.
-
Now, if there can be made those conditions that will make for the material remunerations, the material affairs to be satisfactory, there may then ensue that which will make for more satisfactory surroundings for the body as a whole.
-
As has been outlined, this also must be taken into consideration, as the body seeks for those developments in self from the mental and material conditions in the affairs of self - that as self sets as its ideal. What it would work toward must have a great deal to do with what may be called an entirely successful operation, an entirely successful development for the body; for what the body sets as its ideal, whether that which is wholly of the material or that which is a well balanced spiritual, mental and material condition, will be those developments; for the activity - whether of wholly material conditions, mental conditions, or of spiritual conditions - is the SPIRIT with which an entity, a body, goes about its activity. If the life is to become wholly mechanical, or wholly material minded, then only the material will be the natural result, and this will NOT bring contentment - nor will it satisfy. If the ideal will be set as a well balanced self, knowing that the spirit, the life - that is, the spirit IS the life, the mental attitude is the development or the builder, then the results will be in that comparison as to the activity that is given in respect to these attitudes.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) In reference to answer #3 in first reading, what is it that this body would worship? (A) That is as to what this body will make as its ideal; fame, position, politically, financially, or that which is a well balanced life, knowing these attributes are necessary that have been given or shown for the better development, that will bring in the mental and material life a contentment, a satisfaction; yet not wholly ever satisfying, for when one becomes satisfied they begin to deteriorate. CONTENTMENT makes for that which may be sought by all, that which brings the most happiness, the most hope, the most optimistic outlook upon all activities of the body. THIS - as to what the body would worship - must be set, as to what is the body’s ideal.
-
(Q) What is the body’s ideal? (A) THAT the body must set itself; for this is as the WILL of the body. The body KNOWS within self that which it holds as the criterion for EVERY developing life, from that IT holds as its ideal. Then, WHATEVER is set in self the body should work toward, and the results will be in keeping with that activity. As given, should the body set the ideal wholly in making the material success, it may NOT expect to be content, nor will it bring happiness. If the body’s ideal is set in that which is RIGHT in the sight of its ideal, or by the measurement of that it holds as its criterion, as its ideal, THAT it will develop to. That must be set by self. What does the body set as its SPIRITUAL ideal, as its moral ideal, a its ideal in social, political or economic conditions? Are they in keeping with that one who is the Giver of all good and perfect gifts, or are they creative in themselves? This the body must answer for self.
-
(Q) Will the carmel corn business be as good this winter as it was last winter? (A) In comparison with the outlay, the expense, and the general conditions that surround the body, as we would find, it would be somewhat better.
-
(Q) Would it be advisable to add sandwiches or make candies? (A) The homemade candies, as we find, would be the more - and most - satisfactory to add to those of the present activities; for this, as we find, may be made to become not only a local thing but - with a little effort - may be made to become something that would gradually grow and GROW to be VERY MUCH worth while.
-
(Q) How will I be able to collect the rest on my account at the Mutual Home & Loan Ass’n? (A) As there are the general settling of those conditions that caused the changes in the positions, these will be paid in their pro rata developments, as there are the realizations upon the holdings in same. Eventually, the greater portion of this will be collected.
-
(Q) About when? (A) There should be at least two more payments between now and the first of February.
-
(Q) Would it be possible to sell the lot I own in Patterson Park, Dayton, Ohio, at this time? (A) As we find, this will be possible as soon as there are the opening of some more activities in this immediate vicinity, as we find should begin - under the present conditions - by the middle or latter part of October. This would be, of course, either through the regular channels of holdings companies that dispose of such, or direct to some of those that are seeking to establish residences, by those that are building up this portion of the city, or surroundings.
-
(Q) Would it be advisable to start in the wholesale business with the carmel corn business? (A) Be very good; provided this was not attempted on too large a scale, as it would also be with the homemade candies. This as a mail-order business would make a MOST SUCCESSFUL business.
-
(Q) Is there anything else you would advise to put in or add at this time? besides the homemade candies? (A) These two we would work to their fullest capacity, as the finances and the developments come about, and these - as we find - would, and could be made, from this point of advantage, to be a most successful business; advertising the homemade candies, especially, in those journals that go into the homes - as Capper’s Weekly, and those of the fraternal organization bulletins, and the like. These are not expensive, yet are read - and go to those types that are interested in such as this may be made to be.
Do that.
- We are through for the present.
