This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of October, 1926, in accordance with request made by self - via Mr. [900].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.
-
GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [4869] who is at … Apt. 104, New York City, and you will give a mental, spiritual, and financial reading for this body, including her social relations and all phases of her life involving the future that she and her husband face. You will answer the questions which I will ask you regarding these relations.
-
EC: Yes, we have the mind, and those relations as regarding social, spiritual, and financial welfare of the entity. As to the manner in which these may be benefited, we find there are many conditions to be considered, but first and foremost is that of self - self’s abilities, self’s duties, self’s aspirations - with the considering of the end of same, or the fruits of such aspirations, with duties to self, and when properly considered includes duties to all.
-
Then, first consider thy ways, and be wise in Him - for in the making of self One with that purpose that the all creative energy has set before the entity, then all things that are desirous for the better welfare will be added unto you - for when this is the condition, we find each entity first should seek how it may better serve, with that of the knowledge of the purpose in the earth’s plane, for each entity finds self here in this conscious condition, with the knowledge, of a sort, of conditions surrounding same. Is the aim and purpose the fulfillment of the desires of the flesh? Are the aims those that would make the world better for having lived therein? Would the entity give place to detracting, rather than adding to the betterment of conditions? Then, study thyself, and show self approved unto Him, for “Thy spirit beareth witness with my spirit, whether ye be the children of God or not.”
-
As to social position, as to financial conditions - these, as we see, are the outgrowth of a well directed purpose, rather than of conditions to be sought irrespective of the outcome of same. There are conditions entering in the life in which the entity finds the surroundings pleasant and good. Is the end thereof that which the entity would present to Him who has given all that the entity might manifest His Spirit in the material world? Is the entity presenting self in that manner in which the inmost self would be satisfied to hang up as the criterion for all through eternity? Is that alone what the entity seeks? Is the change as may be brought better, in that the entity would have the opportunity to present another side, as it were, of self?
-
Then study thy ways, and thy going in and coming out, for the deeds in the body, in the mind, are accountable unto thyself IN Him.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would either of the two propositions now offered to my husband prove beneficial from every angle? (A) We haven’t the husband. We have the body and the mind, as considering and as related to same, and when the entity follows out those purposes, those truths, those conditions, as have been set before the entity, same should be able to determine this question within its own mind. ANSWER FOR SELF, for SELF is responsible to the self for the service rendered to Him through spiritual, mental, or physical condition.
-
(Q) Which of the two would prove most beneficial - the more or less indefinite proposition made by Edmund Kaufman, or the proposition in Columbus? (A) Dependent upon which phase of same is the condition or proposition viewed from. PERSONALLY - for the entity, [4869] - we would find the Kaufman proposition BEGINNING as more satisfactory, yet unless many things were changed in the end would prove as “sweet in the mouth but in the belly bitter.”
As to the proposition in Columbus, this, as we have given, would be the best in a STABILIZED form and manner - FINANCIALLY. Spiritually and morally better, may be made according to that which the entity wills from within self.
-
(Q) If the Columbus proposition is accepted, it may be necessary for me to move and make my home in Columbus. Is it possible for the Columbus proposition to be accepted and an agreement brought about by which we may remain in New York? (A) There may - but would it be best? The entity must answer - entity must answer for self in this.
-
We are through.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/20/26 EC’s letter to [4869]: ”…We enclose herewith the reading and I am in hopes that it will prove helpful and beneficial. Perchance, at first glance you will feel that this is a little preachified, but I believe when you have studied it a bit you will get something worthwhile out of it.
“I shall be glad to hear from you from time to time…”
Background
Background
B1. 12/28/25 [4869]‘s friend, Mrs. [4129] obtained a Life reading, also via Mr. [900].
B2. 10/13/26 [4869]‘s letter: ”…[900] has told me a great deal about your work and at his suggestion I am writing for a reading that will counsel me and advise me on a proposition now confronting my husband and myself. He is at the present time offered two business propositions, both of which will necessitate our moving out of New York. In the first place, I am most loathe to leave New York where I have made many friends and am very happy. In the second place, I do not know which move might prove beneficial, if either. [900] tells me that you yourself a short time ago broke up your home to move into a new and somewhat lonesome environment, so possibly you can gain some idea of the way I feel. I would therefore very much appreciate your taking a mental, spiritual and financial reading for me, including my social relations and all phases of my life involving the future that both my husband and I face. I would appreciate your answering the following questions:
- Would either of the two propositions now offered to my husband prove beneficial from every angle?
- Which of the two would prove most beneficial - the more or less indefinite proposition made by Edmund Kaufman or the proposition in Columbus?
- If the Columbus proposition is accepted, it may necessitate my moving and making my home in Columbus.
- Is it possible for the Columbus proposition to be accepted and an agreement brought about by which we may remain in New York?
- How may I proceed to procure the utmost in happiness and development for myself and those about me, and reach the maximum of my own abilities?…”
P.S. to above letter by [900]: ”…I appreciate your taking this for the kid, Edgar. She thinks Columbus is a jungle and that Broadway is America in total. However, one way or another it’s good to get them thinking along lines whether they get it from this way or Physical or Life readings. We all start from wanting things…”
