This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of January, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [487], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [487], present in this room. Considering the guidance given this entity through this channel regarding his life work and the situation that has arisen in the present, you will answer the questions which he submits:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [487]; and the information which has been indicated regarding the life’s work.

3. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) Considering the fact that I have been informed by M. M. Boring, Director of Personnel for General Electric, that there are no openings with this company, should I continue my efforts to secure a place with them? (A) Continue the efforts, though in the meantime there may be other associations or connections made to supply practical application of knowledge which has been gained through the studies in the field in which there has been the indication of the entity’s making the better practical application.

This may be done through the many varied channels, - but keep the ideas of the association or connections with the General Electric as a channel through which greater abilities and possibilities may be attained or gained for the entity.

If there is the desire that there be the immediate service or activities, seek those manners of association as in being of assistance in teaching, coaching; or with direct activities of varied plants, - as any of the electrical operations throughout the land, - or the association closer, which would possibly be better in keeping with the demands as may be made, with the Navy and their activities in building, or in channels of this nature. Or, there may be the teaching or coaching, that there may be kept in practical use those theorems and activities which have been a portion of the studies.

5. (Q) What steps should I take from this point on, in keeping my name before Mr. Boring for favorable selection? (A) Continue to, once in a while, write to the various factors or channels through which there has been the regular procedure through which individual services are gained, - and continue to make those in the various departments aware of the abilities or activities, through individuals who may be acquainted or associated in one way or another.

6. (Q) What suggestions may I make to Mr. [257], who has tried to help me with this connection, that will aid him in being of the greatest assistance to me? (A) Not to overdo it! For, to be in the position where there is so much the going over heads as to cause an individual to be placed, it would mean rather - after a little - the putting of the individual himself “on the spot;” and unless exceptional indications were made as to abilities, it would blacklist the entity.

7. (Q) In the light of the suggestions already given, please comment on the following, as each is called, as possible lines for establishing connections for employment, indicating as far as possible what might be expected in each direction: First, A. P. Smith, Norfolk and Western. (A) This as we find may be a connection, but would necessitate rather some practical application having been made in some direction in the field of service, before there would be any connection that would be of a helpful nature, or one to be really considered.

8. (Q) Walter J. Seely, Duke University. (A) This may require a long period, but continuing to suggest or to look for a connection there, it may be made. This would be more in keeping with that as just indicated, in connection with the activities of some organization, or plant: as Alabama Power Company, or Duke Power Company, or Virginia Electric and Power Company, or Schenectedy Power Company, or the Northwest Power Company, or the Southeast Power Company, or the Tennessee Power Company. Any of these would be channels through which there might be connections, but it would necessitate the beginning in a very minor capacity - although connections may be made.

9. (Q) [470], Penna. (A) This would require more of practical work to have been accomplished, before a great deal might be expected through this channel as to making connections; some year or two years of practical application in some field of service, or some field of activity as connected with some department of electrical engineering.

10. (Q) John O’Neill, Science Editor of Herald-Tribune. (A) This would be much the same way, but a much longer shot.

11. (Q) Howard Armstrong, through Thomas S. Buchanan? (A) This would be a very good channel, but would require that there be the personal contact made in such an association or connection, and would depend upon the mein or manner in which there would be the associations of the individuals.

12. (Q) Naval Yards, Portsmouth or Newport News? (A) The Portsmouth Naval Yards, as we find, offer a greater or better opportunity for openings that would lead to the activities which would fit the entity for its abilities in those channels such that connections might be made with ANY of the others that have been indicated.

13. (Q) Ship Yards, Portsmouth or Newport News? (A) The Navy Yard is better than the Ship Yard. The Ship Yard would mean rather more of a menial position, and not in line with the abilities nor in line with that necessary to show the abilities in the direction of electrical engineering. But in the Naval Yard there may be the associations that may lead to the greater Government activities; and thus such considerations may be had through the associates or friends who have been or may be connected with same, [Andrew C. Peel, Constantine A. Barrett] - Peel, Barrett, or those directors of such activities, or in charge of such, may indicate the manners in which connections may be made, and give the opportunity for the entity to indicate its abilities in those directions.

14. (Q) Government projects. (A) As indicated, first the connections with some of the local activities, which would be the stepping-stones for such.

15. (Q) Airplane factories. (A) Keep on the ground and out of same!

16. (Q) Considering all situations existent in the present, how long before the entity may expect a connection with General Electric? (A) How long is it before tomorrow, or next month, or next week? According to the activities! This depends entirely upon circumstances and conditions which may arise, and depends greatly upon the practical application of the entity in the direction of making practical application of knowledge attained or gained! Within six months or two years, three years, to ten years, - what’s the difference, just so it’s attained and carried on!

R1. 2/18/40 Father wrote that [487] had been with one of the big power companies mentioned in 487-25, Par. 8-A, for about a week, and liked it fine. “Don’t know what the pay will be but is like his Professor Seely told him ‘Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut, and they will take care of you.’ He is in the distribution department and likes the men he is with. A year or so there and we hope to see him with Gen. Electric.”
