This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [5000], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., through his mother, Mrs. [5055].

Born November 30, 1923, in Houston, Texas. Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Texas.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe and the universal forces; giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here for and of that entity now known as [5000].

3. In giving the interpretation of the records as we find them, there is much from which to choose. These we choose to give with the desire and purpose that this information may be helpful for the entity; enabling the entity to better fulfil those purposes for which the soul-entity entered this present sojourn.

4. There are urges latent and manifested that appear in the consciousness of the entity. The entity finds itself in a three-dimensional world - body, mind, soul - just as in the earth the three-dimensional concept of the Godhead is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The body-mind is the builder. Mind is ever the builder. For in the beginning God moved and mind, knowledge, came into being - and the earth and the fulness thereof became the result of same. So the entity finds in self those latent talents or abilities.

5. We would minimize the faults, we would magnify the virtues. There is within the ability of the entity the choice through that which is the gift of light or knowledge to man, through that which is a part of man’s consciousness in the Mind (or the Son) making intercession for man to the Creative Forces or God - WILL.

6. So, no urge arising from astrological aspects or from sojourns of the entity in the earth surpasses the will of the individual entity, when its trust, its hope, its desire is put in the mind of God or the Christ-Consciousness.

7. Thus the urges latent come from the interims through which the soul-entity passes between the sojourns in the earth. These we find in Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

8. Mercury gives the high mental ability; the reasoning which creates, as it were, both faults and virtues in this particular entity’s application. For the entity tends to worry about conditions, circumstances or things - and usually everyone else about the entity is aware of it! Not that these should be suppressed but don’t worry other people with your own worries! Know in what you have believed, know you are right and then leave it with the universal consciousness!

9. In Venus we find the love nature, the intenseness of the entity.

10. Thus the application of the abilities for this particular entity (as shown in Mars as well as in Jupiter) should be in the direction of certain types of law; that it may give the background for the entity’s abilities as a writer. Thus certain characters or types of writing (as will be seen from the material or earthly sojourns) should have their basis in international economic law, or economics of law dealing with international problems. Thus the entity should write of those types of problems in law, as a representative of a corporation or organization, that may deal with international relationships. Of such should the entity write, as we will see.

11. We find in Jupiter the benevolent or universal influence. Thus the international activities and relationships should be a part of the entity’s application.

12. As to the appearances in the earth, not all will be indicated in the present but those having to do particularly with this individual cycle of the entity’s experience. For know, all that the entity may know of law, of God, of international relationships, already exists in the consciousness for the entity to be made aware of same. Then, for this information to become knowledge or understanding there must be the application of self to those sources of material knowledge but with the faith and trust in universal knowledge. For as indicated by the lawgiver, think not who will descend from heaven that ye may hear or know; think not who will come from over the sea that a message may be brought; for lo, it is within thine own self. For the mind and soul is from the beginning. Thus there is to come within the entity’s own consciousness the awareness of how the application is to be made.

13. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity during those periods when there were the attempts to unite the Lone Star State with the United States.

14. Then the entity in the name Amos Goezmez acted in the capacity of an interpreter at the meetings of the various groups when such activities were undertaken.

15. Thus as indicated, law as well as international relationships must be a part of the entity’s application; for these abilities are a part of this entity’s consciousness.

16. Before that the entity was in the Roman land when individuals were chosen as representatives in varied lands, as that empire was being joined to those as one great whole.

17. The entity acted in the capacity of an emissary or interpreter, or as an individual who was to administer the portions of the law that were a part of each individual land to which the entities were sent.

18. Then the entity was the ambassador or the procurator in Alexandria. Thus the conditions, the history and the activities in Africa, all the portions of Egypt, have been and are of particular interest to the entity.

19. The entity in the name then Osbore gained in mental abilities, lost in becoming sectarian or becoming centralized in self as being a little better than others. This was a loss in development because the Creative Forces are ever universal and God is not a respecter of persons.

20. Thus in the application of self in the directions indicated, consider the warning which arises from the application in that sojourn. No use grumbling to everyone else because things are not just like you wish them or because they are not just right for yourself in any particular field of activity or service. Don’t impose upon others. For, “As ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them” should be not merely a saying but a daily practise in the entity’s experience.

21. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land during those periods when there were the activities in which emissaries were being chosen and being prepared through the Temple Beautiful for a service, as well as through the Temple of Sacrifice.

22. The entity then was prepared for its activity in the Mongoloid land. Thus we will find an interest in the teachings of the orient and especially of what is now called the Gobi desert land. For there the entity served in the capacities of establishing inter-relationships between the ruling force in the Gobi land and the ruler Araararart in Egypt.

23. Hence it would be well for the entity in the present to make connections and to work with those two entities in their present activities in the earth.

24. The entity’s name then was Ibel-An.

25. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how:

26. First study self. Know thine own ideals, physically, mentally, spiritually. Cherish and nourish each of these. As the physical body needs sustenance, so does the mental body and so does the spiritual body.

27. Then study to show thyself approved unto thy ideal, condemning no one; not even self, keeping self unspotted from the world or from being condemned by others.

28. Thus as the opportunity is presented to the entity in this experience we will find activities worthy of acceptance in His sight.

30. (Q) Once decided on a line of endeavor, what school, college, or university would it be best for me to attend? (A) Either Harvard or Princeton.

R1. 4/28/44 [5000]‘s ltr. to EC: ”…I want to thank you so much for my reading. I was more than pleased with it. I have gotten something new from it each time that I have read it. I am still, however, puzzled by one portion of it - namely, the answer to my question concerning the university that I should go to. You said that I should go to either Harvard or Princeton.

“Last October, when I left Sewanee, I tried to get in Princeton, but I was turned down, because of a deficiency in language credits and because I didn’t have a remarkably high average at Sewanee. I was out at Princeton for just one morning, going back to New York the same day. I didn’t see the Dean, who was out of town, I saw only his secretary, who noted my case and presented it to the board of admissions. She didn’t encourage me as to my chances of being accepted. I left convinced that it was hopeless, and a month or so later I received a letter from Princeton saying that my request for transfer had been denied. I know that all schools make concessions and that very probably that if I could have seen the Dean, I would have been admitted. A report of a person on paper can often present a very poor picture of him.

“I am confused as to whether my reading meant that I should go to one of those schools now or that I should go to one of them for graduate study. If the latter interpretation is correct, I intend to go back to Sewanee in the last part of June. If it would be better, and more in line with the readings, for me to enter one of those two schools now, that is certainly what I want to do. If it would be possible for you to include a ‘Life’ question to my physical reading, as my mother mentioned in her letter I should like to ask: ‘What should I do now (the near future) as regards school?’ If I should enter one of the schools, mentioned in my life reading, how and to whom should I apply for entrance?

“If, Mr. Cayce, it is impossible for you to include these questions in my physical readings, would it be possible for you to give me a check reading concerning them? I have made several disastrous decisions in regard to important moves and I do hope that I can avoid another. I am happier than I have been in a long time, because of my reading and the hope it has given me, and I feel that if I can once get started on the right track, in the right school, I will have accomplished much.

“If a check reading is necessary to answer my questions and you can give me one, would you wire me as to the date of it as I must make my plans within the next month.

“I am going to write [341] and [877] and send them copies of my life reading report.

B1. 3/26/44 [5000]‘s ltr. to EC: ”…I have heard such wonderful things about your work from my mother. As she was fortunate enough to secure appointments for us all, I don’t think it out of place for me to preface my reading with a letter, the purpose of which, is to let me present the problem, which I do hope the Life readings solves for me. Until the last few years, there was never a doubt in my mind as to my life’s work, which was to go to West Point and to follow a military career. I loved the military life, and my years in the military school, until I got sick, were the happiest in my life. When the doctors at the Mayo Clinic told me that I would have to lead a quiet life, I knew in my heart, that my dreams of a military life were hopeless. I did not, however, give up. I went back to the military school and, at great personal sacrifice and inconvenience to both my mother and myself, I graduated. In June, following my graduation, I went to Canada in order to enlist in the R.C.A.F. As might have been expected, I was rejected. But still I was not convinced that I couldn’t do some soldiering. I went to college, but all of my constructive energy was expended in trying to maneuver myself into the service in some manner. The result was that I became completely frustrated. Upon seeing that beyond any possible shadow of doubt, military service was out, I tried to find some vocation to prepare myself for and to work toward. To my mother’s complete dismay, I was able to stick to nothing, but constantly jumped from pillar to post… I know that there must be something toward which I can work and be happy in the knowledge that in my work, I am being of constructive service to God, to mankind, and to myself. I know that for a life of service, a man must first find that to which he is fitted and then devote all his efforts toward it… I have faith and know the Lord has a use for me in some manner…”
