GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now called [5005].
-
As we find, there are very definite urges latent and manifested. These might very well be patterned in a life placque, but this would not be of special interest until the pattern of the experiences of the entity in the earth had been analyzed by the entity.
-
The entity is an individual who finds a great interest in things unusual. And that’s the reason for seeking information here, rather than that a study of the subject be made; yet there are the abilities from the entity’s experiences in the earth as well as from the sojourns during the interims as to cause that latent urge.
-
For instance, it is of special interest to the entity to find what’s at the bottom of the sea or as to how high one might go in the sky, or the ferreting out of unusual experiences to see why an individual did this or that under particular circumstances.
-
Thus as an explorer the entity might do well.
-
For, in the experience before this as George Gage the entity was an explorer.
-
Remember, that the seeking of unusual things should be with a purposeful interest and never just curiosity, though there’s a great deal of curiosity in the experience of the entity.
-
Astrologically we find Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn present the peculiar combinations for the manifested urges as a detective or as an explorer, or as a stunt man in a circus, or things of that nature would be of peculiar interest - unless there are others dependent upon the entity for the activities in the earth.
-
Also from Venus we find particular interest in individuals of certain thought or mind in the opposite sex, yet we find that the entity would be just as true to one of the opposite sex as the entity would expect such an one to be to the entity. But let there be any semblance of laxness or slackness and the entity would go to almost any length to be just a little bit worse than the other.
-
We find in Saturn the changes, the varied activities that are a part of the entity’s experience. When there are changes we find that the entity may or should become as a director in searching parties, in unusual scenes or experiences or explorations, or among those who would guide parties looking for varied things in the settlings in other lands. For the entity should go to many varied places through the experience.
-
As to the appearances in the earth and the urges arising from these, we find that the entity as Joseph George Gage was in the land of the present nativity during the Revolutionary periods, being active as an informant for the Colonial Forces.
-
Thus as a guide, as an agent, as a detective, as a policeman, the entity may find outlets for his abilities.
-
These are those urges arising from that sojourn.
-
Before that the entity was in the Holy Land when those peoples were being moved by changes wrought in the activities of a teacher with a new message, pertaining to what is now called the Mohammedan activity. [Crusades?]
-
The entity was one who searched out and followed close some of those findings. Thus the entity has its doubts, its questioning, as to those who have too definite ideas in the realm of that called spiritual alone. Thus the entity is more inclined to things that are matter of fact.
-
The name then was Oslan. The entity became very wise, as it were, in the study of individuals. Thus the entity finds natural latent and manifested abilities in quick judgements of people by the excuses, especially, they attempt to make - or their attempt to justify their activities.
-
Before that the entity was in the Holy Land among those who had come from Egypt; being among those chosen to represent one of the tribes in searching out the Holy Land, as a spy; being in the name Azelu as would be interpreted in the present.
-
Being one chosen from the tribe of Naphtali, the entity’s activities then have brought interests in searching out truths, but for material things. Do spiritualize thy purposes, thy ideals. For it is not all of life to live nor yet all of separation of the body to die. For to be absent from the body is to be present with thy God. What is thy God? Place, position in the earth? These are naught when things of the earth may not be used. For man enters the earth with a body prepared by others before him. He leaves the earth with the body-soul he has prepared for that realm of the inter-between, and can only depend, then, upon self according to that done with Creative Forces or God’s laws. For they are perfect and are unchangeable.
-
Before that the entity was in Egypt when people were being chosen for emissaries.
-
The entity was among those chosen to represent the council of groups and nations for inter-changing ideas and purposes, conditions and things in varied lands.
-
Thus the entity was among those groups who prepared for the establishing of inter-national relationships with various groups - the city of gold, and in the land of Zu, On and Oz, as well as other lands.
-
As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain and how:
-
What thy hands find to do, do with a will and a purpose. Those activities as indicated would find the greater outlet for physical, mental and spiritual ideals; as a guide, as one at the head of searching parties or for the establishing of relationships with other lands, the keeping of better counsel with those groups in whatever activities the entity may find itself engaged. But it will ever be as a guide, a protector, or as one searching out unusual places.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should my wife stop teaching school and have another child? if so, what should we name the child? (A) This should depend upon the choice of the two together, not from just one. From self’s own reasoning or from the wife’s, if the conditions in the environs are such that these can contribute to the welfare of their ideals, it would be well. Are thy ideals correct in regard to the preparing of a channel for a soul to enter? You take on responsibilities! Are ye equal to them? You should be!
-
(Q) What means of self-expression should I attempt, music, writing, what instrument? (A) In music use the banjo or guitar. The self-expression, as indicated, should be in that direction as the leader or interpreter for searching out parties, or as the traveler.
-
(Q) In what way can I show my sincerity to those that I like, and have them take a liking to me? (A) As given so oft through this channel, if one would have friends, one must show self friendly. Begin with the spiritual aptitudes and attitudes. For it it the spirit ye entertain that counts, and the application through the mind may bring into material experience pleasant companionship. If you would have love, you must show yourself lovely. If you would have others kind to thee, be kind to others. Be patient, be longsuffering, show forth brotherly love. Thy choice in the present may not appear important, but ye can use thy experiences as a means for endearing thyself to everyone ye meet.
-
(Q) How can I help others and stop myself of self-interest entirely? (A) As just indicated, study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman not ashamed, rightly applying the words of truth, keeping self unspotted from the world and unspotted from condemnation. Help, not hinder.
-
We are through.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/24/50 Letter from [5005] to A.R.E: ”…I still have a copy of my life reading which I have read approximately six times, and which I have only shared with my wife. It was about 4 mos. ago that I last read it. Most of my reading seemed to fit me; regarding my interest in historical matters. My request as to musical instrument was way off, as Mr. Cayce said my interest should be a banjo which I detest. My life work was suggested as an explorer! This doesn’t fit, altho I love the out of doors; also as a stunt man in a circus - this would be ridiculous for me. Also another was as a detective which is not too far out of reason. All in all - it did not include all which I was hoping for. I believe in reincarnation, but am unable to give a good reason. My idea or concept of Karma is a hereditary influence I would guess. I have not changed my vocation - I thought I might be an artist or a musician but as the reading did not suggest so - gave thoughts of these up. It seems as if I will just stumble along until I pass away, with no worthwhile deeds left behind me. I have not systematically or otherwise set apart any time for introspections, but I have given considerable thought as to my past life and what I should have made of myself, but apply the reading to my future is out of reason. I have no trade or vocation, as I have had one job after another, doing all well in my opinion, but with the depression right after my graduation from high school and then the war, my future was just shot and those years really lost. I now feel as if I should have either been a doctor, minister, or artist. I believe that the Association can best carry on the work left by Edgar Cayce by compiling books on vocations and life planning, health and cures, etc. and by offering as many persons as possible. For instance: I now have a heart ailment described by a specialist as a true anginal syndrome on the basis of coronary sclerosis - if I, for one, were to write in to you for suggestions about what Mr. Cayce suggested in previous readings, and it were to help me also - it would be a wonderful thing. I think the above would be what Mr. Cayce would want his readings used for.”
R2. 8/11/50 Letter from [5005] to A.R.E.: ”…Thank you for sending me the enclosed readings on heart trouble [Arteriosclerosis and Thrombosis]. They are different than my ailment, so did not help me in ideas. I appreciate your kindness and wish the Ass’n. much good fortune in it’s work.
“I have not the actual means or I would have joined when Mr. Cayce gave me my reading, that is why I am not returning the subscription form. Again thank you.”
R3. 5/11/67 He requested a copy of his Life Rdg., saying: “I am still drifting from one unsatisfying job to another, not knowing what I should have been striving for.”

B1. 9/28/43 Letter from [5005] to EC: ”…I was very glad to receive your kind personal letter and also the literature… I have today ordered a copy of TIR… As I stated in my first letter to you, it is the selfishness in me, that I wished to know just what I was intended to do in this life and the best way to do it, in order to make a better life and living for my family and myself… You state that you are a year in advance with your appointments. I am very sorry that I am so late in writing you, but again, I am glad that there are all those people that are receiving these blessings and help from you… I should like very much to be a member… I will not try to hide facts from you, Mr. Cayce. I am making a fair wage at the present time, but at the same time hardly have the money that it takes, to spare. But I feel also that mere money is not to be considered, if my life work and factors are at stake. And that is just how I feel about this. That you, with your vision, are in a position to raise me up, to make me just what God intended me to be. It is hard for me to express myself especially in talking about God and your visions, but at least I am sincere in wishing that I were a new man, a good father and husband and to get what life intended me to receive to help others with. I am tender hearted, too much, so, but at the same time think only of myself. I wish all this to be changed by some miracle. In other words, I want to be a good man, as best as I can be and at the same time to help my family and me. Do you think that I am looking for far too much?…”
B2. 10/16/43 Letter from [5005] to EC: ”…I am enclosing my application for membership… I would appreciate your sending me as much literature as you can, as I wish to study all that I can do so. Is there some way that I can be of service to you? I would deem it a privilege to be of some help although in speaking, I would be out of line as I cannot speak convincingly or seem to hold the attention that a speaker should. But if there be another way, please let me know. As you know from my previous letters, I am very interested in obtaining a Life Reading, in order to find what kind of life work I would be best fitted for, and of course am anxious to know about my past life and the other facts that you are able to discover. I believe that I would be permitted to ask a few questions, if so, I have attached a few on the application… There is much that I do not understand about reincarnation and if you have special booklets on this, please let me know. I would ask you to send me the booklets that I list: ‘The Last Supper’; ‘The Power Within’; ‘The Essenes’; ‘Oneness of All Force’; ‘Child Training’; ‘The Common Cold’; ‘Care Of Young Children’; ‘Life Readings’; ‘Arabian History’; ‘Egyptian History’. I hope that at some time I can get readings for my wife and daughter… I wish to say that I was very much impressed by every word in the book, TIR… I would appreciate your sending me the literature as soon as you can, as I am very eager to read more about all of these amazing facts.
”…Besides giving me the work which I would be best fitted and that I should enter into, what means of self-expression should I attempt - music, writing, what instrument?” [Additional questions submitted at end of 5005-1.]
