This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 8th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [5018], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born September 10, 1887, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Taken 3:50 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Michigan.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [5018].

3. In giving the interpretation of these records we choose those which as they are applied may enable the entity to use its abilities to the greater spiritual, mental and material advantage. Some very hard experiences and duties have come to the entity through this period of sojourn, as will be seen from the activities in the earth. But some very unusual and pleasant experiences should also come from unexpected sources. Someone whom the entity aids will make a portion of the life very happy, through enabling the entity to have materially those things that may bring the greater joy into the physical experience of the entity. Use these opportunities, don’t abuse them.

4. As for the urges latent and manifested we find astrologically the influence from Jupiter. Thus the interest the entity has in giving of itself in service to others, disregarding its own personal pleasures. Remember, as indicated, no one gives a cup of cold water in His name without receiving a reward. This is not as the buying of position or of conditions, but those who give ungrudgingly, those who give willingly of themselves that others may attain, that others may have the opportunity to learn of and to know that good, that purity, that love, that unselfishness exists in a material world, are complying with the law of love - which is manifested by and in the mercy, love and grace which the loving heavenly Father gives to individuals. Thus such individuals through the law of love receive joy and happiness in return.

5. These have been trying experiences, yes - yet the entity has come to love them. Then let that mind keep and be in thee which was in Him, who offered Himself a ransom for many.

6. In Mars we find a very active individual. We find in Venus the appreciation of beauty, the appreciation of music and of children; yea, the bringing of a smile to those who are disturbed by every character of disturbance. For the entity may wipe away many a tear for those who are disturbed for one reason or another. Think not that these will not come back to thee. Do them, not for the reward but for the joy, that love, that feeling of being at one with the Creative Forces as manifested in the fruits of the spirit. For in patience and in love, in grace and mercy, ye may come to know and feel that joy which comes in doing good ever.

7. As to the appearances in the earth we find that these have been quite varied.

8. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity during the early settlings.

9. Then in the name Clara Channing the entity was a teacher, an instructor in the care of children, especially those who were hampered by disturbances in their bodies, crippled children, and yet the entity made a home for many besides those of its own children in the experience.

10. Thus it brought joy, it brought a feeling of an influence from without that may be answering to or act upon the expressions of self from within.

11. Before that the entity was in the earth when there were the Crusades in the hinterland or in the periods when part of Asia Minor were overcome by the overzealousness of the people from other lands.

12. The manner in which the entity was active in taking care of those who were enemies or were misdirecting their purposes brought about the correct thinking and application later. For the law of the Lord is perfect. Yet through a portion of the experience the entity lost, for the entity became jealous of some in its own household because of someone kept there during those periods of the records in those experiences.

13. Yet the interest in every type of healing activities from the lesson gained from the Christian experiences as well as later from the prophet who would lead others to the way of the Lord as manifested through those people to whom the entity found itself indebted for activities.

14. Thus there will come to the entity great joys because of that spiritually applied in its mental self to others.

15. The name then was Skuynke.

16. Before that the entity was in the Holy Land when the people were gathering from Egypt.

17. The entity was among those about the Holy City that later became the place of David’s activities.

18. For the entity was in the household of Caleb who settled in Hebron and the holy areas of that particular land.

19. There we find that the entity was given to good works towards the preparations for activities of those dedicated to the priesthood.

20. Thus the entity’s activities of being as a teacher, as an instructor as a healer through nursing, through caring for those in need of close attention, may enable the entity to find the greater outlet for itself; as a nurse, a teaching nurse and instructing nurse in the welfare either of the young or the old - as a companion for shut-ins.

21. These activities may at times appear to become very tedious, very tiresome, yet the joy ye may bring may build all of that which may produce peace and harmony in the life of the entity.

22. The name then was Adyar.

23. Before that the entity was in Egypt during those periods when there were the rebellions, when there was the banishment of the Priest.

24. The entity was among those who chose to go into banishment because of its purposes with that priest and the ideals of same.

25. The name then was Is-Kabuod.

26. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain and how:

27. Keep the activities that have been set as the pattern and the ideal.

28. In the fields of service as a teacher, as an instructor, as a companion, as a practical nurse, the entity may find the material outlet for its greater abilities.

29. Study, then, to show thyself approved unto thy ideals, condemning no one; applying patience, brotherly love, longsuffering, and ye will find the outlet for those ideals and purposes latent and manifested within.

31. (Q) What is the best place or general area for me to live and work? (A) The south in the winter time, the present environ or surroundings in the summer time.

32. (Q) How may I best overcome procrastination? (A) By applying self in the ways in which “Today, if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts.”

33. (Q) Considering my interest in healing through combining the spiritual with the material, how may I best apply this? (A) Make applications in those directions indicated. For the following of instructions of others, yet applying them in the spiritual manner, is the greater outlet for the entity. For as ye heal, as ye give to others, ye do add to thine own beauty, thine own joy, thine own understanding.

34. (Q) Is there something in which I can be of use, through my interest in spiritualism? (A) Better turn it into spirituality rather than an “ism”. The divine is within self. Hear the voice within, not the temptor from without.

35. (Q) What were the past association with the following, what are the urges and how may they be used for the mutual development: My sister? (A) In the experiences before this ye had many differences. In the present unify those activities wherein you agree - lessen the disputations wherein ye disagree.

36. (Q) My brother? (A) The association in the Holy Land or Asia Minor. There ye had helpfulness and were shown the way by thy brother. Ye owe him much.

37. (Q) My sister’s children? (A) These ye cared for in the experience just before this and they become very close to thee.

38. (Q) Should I dispose of my present home and clear my life of “things” at once or gradually? (A) This would better be done gradually as the entity applies itself in those directions indicated and as it is established in the activities, as it offers itself in a service.

B1. 3/17/44 Letter from [5018] to EC: ”…This will confirm my appointment for April 8th… I think I have given you my birth data, but I would like to add to it. An astrologer friend of mine has made a correction in my birth time of 12 minutes and says he thinks the time was 3:03 A.M. rather than 3:15 according to the events in my life… Here are some questions: (1) Can the forces you contact for this tell me if I should have a physical reading later? I have not been able to get at the source of some of my health problems through regular doctors. (2) The best place to live? I like to move about a good deal, go here and there to meet people who are doing spiritual work and find out about it. Seem to get a good deal in this way. (3) What is the problem and obligation with my sister? (4) Is there anything special in connection with my brother, and his family, my nephews and nieces? (5) I am much interested in the phenomena of spiritualism, the question of its meaning, its source and its use. How can these forces best be used to bring understanding of truth and spiritual values? (6) Is this something in which I can be of use? (7) Have I any latent psychic ability which I can develop to contact the unseen worlds and get correct information? (8) I am interested in healing especially the combining of spiritual and material ways of healing, would this be a good life for me to follow? (9) What are the special problems of this life, my best talents and abilities? (10) What are my faults and what are the hindrances and handicaps with which I have to contend? (11) How best can I meet these? (12) I tend to work best alone a good deal of the time, is this all right? I am now entirely free to organize my own life and I would like to work along spiritual lines or a combination of healing and spiritual lines.
