-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, as we find, there are disturbances in this body. These are partially karmic. Thus there are some attitudes not merely to be assumed but to be definitely decided upon by the body itself, as to the activities towards divine influences in the body.
-
We find that these also bring a definite pathological condition. The applications now being made will have little or no effect, even with this change of general attitude.
-
The attitude to be taken should be not merely to be good but to be good for something. The expression of life is of the divine. The divine is that influence or force called God. Use same, do not abuse same.
-
Pathologically there has been brought about the lacking of stamina in the nerves and muscular forces of the extremities. The greater portion is indicated in the limbs at present and in one of the arms.
-
Hence the necessity of adding to the system the mechanical as well as chemical forces that may assist the body, through that assimilated, to gain energy and strength in the nerves, muscles and tendons. That there is becoming an atrophying of the nerves and muscular forces is because of the lack of there being carried through the system the properties for replenishing, by the lack of assimilation of properties needed to aid these muscular and nerve forces to reproduce themselves.
-
Have prepared the Wet Cell Appliance to carry, by the radial activity of the low electrical forces, Atomidine and Camphor alternately; one to be used one day, the other the next day.
-
Attach the Appliance for thirty minutes each day. The larger plate, through which the solution passes, would always be attached to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus which, on this body, would be the width of three fingers from the navel center to the right and two fingers directly up from that point.
-
When using the Atomidine (in the proportions of one ounce of commercial strength Atomidine and two ounces of distilled water), make the attachment to the lumbar axis.
-
When using the Camphor (three ounces of commercial strength Spirits of Camphor) make the attachment of the small plate at the brachial center, between the shoulders, or at the 1st and 2nd or between the 2nd and 3rd dorsal centers.
-
Alternate the attachments in this manner each day.
-
Each time when the appliance is removed, give the body a massage with this combination of oils:
Olive Oil…2 ounces, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Lanolin (melted)…1/4 ounce.
-
Massage these oils thoroughly into the spinal areas, especially along the brachial center and the lumbar axis, and to the sciatic centers and to the limbs. Commence at the toes and gradually work up. Take at least half an hour to three-quarters of an hour each day to give this gentle massage.
-
Prepare two solutions to be taken internally, but to be kept separate until dosage is to be taken:
-
One solution would be one grain of Chloride of Gold Sodium to one ounce of distilled water.
-
The other solution would be two grains of Bromide of Soda to one ounce of distilled water.
-
When the dosage is to be taken, it would be every third day, put one drop of the Gold Solution and one drop of the Soda solution in half a glass of water, stir and drink immediately. Use a medicine dropper for this, not just guess at it.
-
Do these, keeping away from those things that carry any form of alcohol or too great quantities of starches.
-
These do and we may bring better conditions for the body.
-
Do the first things first. Begin with reading Exodus 19:5 and Deuteronomy 30. Apply these to self.
-
Be persistent, be consistent. For here you have the opportunity for help if you’ll use it.
-
We are through with this reading.*

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/54 GD’s note: After writing Mr. [5019] several times trying to get a response as to his reading and whether or not he followed it, we finally (after three change of address notices) received returned envelope marked ADDRESS UNKNOWN.
R2. 7/60 Dr. Walter N. Pahnke, in his study and breakdown of 69 cages of Multiple Sclerosis from the Edgar Cayce readings, made the following brief on Case [5019]:
Case [5019]: 33 yr. old male. 1 Phys. Rdg. in 1944. Before the reading the patient gave his diagnosis as amyotrophic laterosclerosis. Symptoms he described also fit this condition, walking very slow and unsteady, and only with crutches, one of arms beginning to atrophy, fibrillations of the muscles. This condition is not the same as MS. In this condition there is widespread selected atrophy and loss of the motor nerve cells at all levels of the central nervous system, whereas in MS there is loss of the myelin sheaths of the nerve fibers at various places in the spinal chord. Fibrillations of the muscles are a typical sign in amyotropic laterosclerosis. The reading gives the cause as partially karmic, but also pathological, with a lacking of stamina in the nerves and muscular forces of the extremities. TREATMENT: attempt to add the mechanical as well as chemical forces to enable the nerves to gain energy and strength. There was a lack of the properties needed to aid these muscle and nerve forces to reproduce themselves. Therefore for treatment wet cell appliance, 30 min per day, large plate usual, Atomidine 1 oz., -2, small plate lumbar axis, spirits of Camphor, commercial strength, small plate at brachial center, between shoulders, between 2 and 3 dorsal centers, between 1 and 2 D. After appliance, massage, with mixture of oils, olive 2 oz., peanut 2 oz., lanolin melted, 1/4 ounce. Massage the spinal areas, especially brachial center and lumbar axis, massage from the toes upward. 3/4 hr. per day massage. Take internally in water 1 drop of gold solution 1:1, and one drop of bromide of soda solution, 2 grains to 1 oz. water. 1 dose per day. No alcohol. Read Exodus 19:5 and Deuteronomy 30. No follow up report on this case. Treatment here is essentially the same as for many cases of MS.
R3. 7/21/65 ALS patient’s letter from an A.R.E. member who borrowed A.R.E. Circulating File on Muscular Atrophy, which included 5019-1:
Mr. & Mrs. Robert L. Baugh 11824 So. Spinning St., Inglewood, California 90303
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I am writing this letter to report to you our experience so far with the use of the Wet Cell for my problem of amythropic lateral sclerosis (ALS). First, however, I want to thank both you and Gladys for searching out for me the readings relating to ALS.
We have been using the Wet Cell according to the specific instructions of reading #5019. This was the only one in the atrophy file in which a definite diagnosis of ALS was made. My symptoms do not correlate totally with the reading. However, the reading symptoms and mine each indicate a very definite diagnosis of this disease. Where I am mostly affected in the arms and hands, the reading symptoms related mostly to the legs.
We have followed the treatment since about January 15, with no apparent results. We had hoped to at least stop the progress of the disease. Such has not been the case. It has progressed at a rate consistent with that described in the medical journals. Although I do believe the massage called for daily has been of considerable value in maintaining muscle tone.
I contacted Dr. Hotten and he referred me to a man here in Torrence, California, who had constructed a Wet Cell, which I obtained. It follows your description very well except the terminals are about 8” apart rather than 4”. I made several measurements of internal resistance to direct current with these terminals varying down to 1” apart and could determine no difference. Therefore, I have left unit at 8”. I found no particular trouble obtaining chemicals through my local drug store except we are not sure of the base of the charcoal. We believe it to be wood.
I found that by wetting the electrodes with saliva the current could be doubled or even more. So, I have practiced this. We normally obtain 2 to 4 microamperes while connected up. Why the variance I do not know. Sometimes we seem to get a good connection and sometimes not. I’m not sure of the calibration of my instrument, but I believe the battery shows a voltage of about 50 milivolts across my meter resistance of about 2000 ohms.
I have enjoyed my membership in the A.R.E. and found much of the literature very interesting.
I wish you continued success in promoting and disseminating information from the readings. The philosophy contained therein has been a great comfort to me.
Sincerely, [signed] Robert L. Baugh
R4. 7/29/65 HLC’s reply to ALS patient’s letter:
Mr. Robert L. Baugh 11824 South Spinning Street Inglewood, California 90303
Dear Mr. Baugh:
Thank you for your letter of July 21st giving us a report on your use of the Wet Cell Appliance. I do hope that you will continue this for at least a full year period. In many of the readings it indicated that the effect of the appliance was very slow, but when it begins to change I believe that you will be able to see noticeable results.
Do carefully cleanse the anodes both after they are taken off of the body to remove the film and then before you attach the anodes to the body at each time of treatment. Emerypaper or sandpaper should be used to ensure a good connection. This is most important and was emphasized in a number of readings.
We look forward to hearing from you again, and we hope that next time it will be with more encouraging news.
Thank you for your comments regarding the Association data.
Sincerely,
Hugh Lynn Cayce HLC:mle

Background
Background
B1. 11/1/43 Letter: ”…A little over a year ago I began limping and after visiting our family physician, he sent me to Neurological Institute for observation. After three weeks there they diagnosed my case as Myeloradiculitis. They prescribed Diathermy and Vitamin B. therapy. This did not help me. My condition grew worse and I then visited a neurologist who recommended that I go to Mt. Sinai Hospital for observation. At Mt. Sinai they diagnosed my case as Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis and prescribed Vitamin E. I have been taking Vitamin E and still I have become worse. I have also been to chiropractors and osteopaths, and they have not done anything for me. As things are today, the muscle atrophy has progressed to the point where I can no longer walk without the aid of crutches, and have to be helped up from a sitting position and placed on the crutches. Even then walking is very slow and unsteady. One of my arms is beginning to feel the effects of atrophy. It is weak and it takes quite an effort to raise it. This atrophy is accompanied by fibrillations. I have told you all I can in a letter and as I explained before, not knowing the working of your organization, I must wait for your answer with your suggestions…”
B2. 11/12/43 Letter: “I am writing to you as you requested in our telephone conversation this morning. Just to recall to your mind whom I am, I was referred to you by Mr. [3275]. Would you please try to do something for me?”
B3. 3/18/44 Letter: ”…(1) What is the cause of my illness? (2) Will my present treatment help? (3) What therapy do you suggest? (4) Would a change of climate be beneficial to me? If there are any further instructions please let me know, so that my reading will be clear.”
