GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here. As we find, these conditions have gradually grown much worse as the impactions in the colon area have added to the congestions in the liver and gall duct. These increase the headaches, the sick headaches and nausea, hard headaches. These, as we find, are not migraine but they may become such unless measures are taken.
-
We would continue the sedatives occasionally until there has been the opportunity for the activities from these treatments, but it is better to take three to four aspirins than to take even one dose of the other properties that have been taken. For those that are so much of the codeine are increasing the activities in the gall duct area.
-
First, we would begin by having a high colonic irrigation. Don’t try to give too much at once or it will become too severe for the body. Have these at least ten days apart until all the mucous is cleansed from the colon. To each gallon of water, body temperature, use a level teaspoonful of baking soda and a heaping teaspoonful of table salt, thoroughly dissolved before the water is injected.
-
In the last water use two tablespoonsful of Glyco-Thymoline to the gallon of rinse water, body temperature.
-
Continue these regularly until all the mucous is out of the system.
-
After the first colonic, begin taking Castor Oil Packs for an hour and a half each day for three days in succession each week - the same three days each week. Apply these over the liver and gall duct and extend to the caecum on the right side. For the engorgement in the colon is upon the ascending and a portion of the transverse colon.
-
After the first Pack has been given, begin taking every three hours about half to a teaspoonful of Olive Oil. Don’t take it during the night but during the day, or if the body is awake at night, take it at the regular periods, throughout the whole three-day period of using the packs.
-
On the third day, after the last of the Packs, have a very good massage. If this is impractical, do use the electrically driven vibrator, which the body may apply to itself. Use the cup applicator. Let this be across the area of the diaphragm and over the liver, down and across the groin and lower portion of the abdomen and as far around on the back as possible. It would be better for this to be applied by someone else, though the body could do it for itself.
-
Leave off the applications, then, until the next week. Then have the Packs again for three days, also the Olive Oil being taken internally, followed by the massage at the end of the three-day period.
-
Repeat this procedure several times and we will find that we will remove the cause of these disturbances for this body. Thus we will get farther and farther away from the headaches and the distresses.
-
As fast as possible, leave off the sedatives.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is there a slight tumor on the spinal cord? (A) No. There are some subluxations but these are not tumors.
-
(Q) What is the swelling and stiffness in my right thumb? (A) The poisons in the body, lack of proper eliminations. Thus the colonic irrigation at the beginning of the treatments. Do as indicated and we will make better conditions.
-
(Q) Any advice regarding the diet? (A) Do not take fats or oils; that is, fats such as greases, during the period of these applications, especially. Do increase the amount of green vegetables. Do use a great deal of liquids, but not so much as to cause gas through the abdominal area.
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/10/52 Mrs. [5020]‘s oral report to IMG: ”…I think it would be of interest to tell you that the hour on the reading was not the hour I was given for my appointment and I was not at home to keep the period on the afternoon of 4/10/44. I knew that Mr. Cayce was very busy and overworked, and I thought that perhaps it really didn’t matter anyway. As it turned out I was giving my husband his treatments, working, etc., and I could not seem to get my treatments done also. I did take colonics a couple of times and the Castor Oil packs 4 or 5 times but did not use the vibrator. I felt that if I did not do the entire treatment just as it was given, that I could not expect to get help anyway. I feel fine now with the exception of getting headaches when I am very tired. I cannot put into words what it meant to me to have known Mr. Cayce, and the contact I had with him through correspondence. Just this alone, and the experience with following the reading for my husband, changed my attitude toward life. Specifically, all fear went out of my life. Now and then a shadow of fear will return but now I can dispel it, whereas before I had not been able to. The only way I know to express it - ‘Because of Mr. Cayce, I met Jesus’.”
R2. GD’s Note: During the spring of 1944, EC was so deluged with appointments that sometime he would be unable to give the 3 or 4 readings scheduled for a definite appointment. Apparently Mrs. [5020]‘s reading was not included in the 4/10/44 A.M. list schedule, so EC felt it wise to attempt her reading at the afternoon hour of the same day. Presumably this was done by using a suggestion on this order, as was frequently the case when some miscalculation or mishap prevented a reading at the time scheduled: “You will have before you [5020], who was this morning between 10:30 and 11:30 in her home at … Street, …, Mass. You will go over this body…” etc. The file records do not show that this was true in this instance, but it was not an uncommon practice during the 1944 hectic period. This effort was made to avoid the cancellation of appointments for those who had waited so long for their readings. In many instances readings were obtained under such conditions; and sometimes through “picking up the vibrations of the body”, when the individual had failed to keep the date set, though it was not considered the most desirable approach or procedure for obtaining a physical reading.

B1. 4/25/43 Letter: “I have just finished reading ‘There Is A River’ by Thomas Sugrue, and am infinitely grateful to Mr. Sugrue and happy and hopeful thinking you may consent to help us. I will try to be brief. My husband [3079] was taken sick a little over a year ago… I can’t express how infinitely grateful we will be for a reading… You will have our cooperation and all my prayers now and at the reading. As my husband goes to his office, maybe a Saturday afternoon would be good, when he can be home and concentrate better… I have to be away in New York to lecture in Teacher’s College… I can only get back to …, Mass. at 4 P.M. at best, but you choose the day and even if I am away, I can think and pray at the time…”
B2. 7/18/43 Letter: “My husband’s reading has arrived and how grateful we are, I cannot express, for I know you are going to cure my husband. I thank God for permitting me to know about you and pray to Him to bless and help you…”
B3. 10/25/43 Letter: “Thank you so much for the report of the Check Reading for my husband. The news made us very happy and grateful to you. Please excuse me for not writing before, but I myself was so sick I would have made no sense if I had written then…”
B4. 1/10/44 Letter: ”…I would and should have written much before this, but we had ‘flu’ in the family, and I was the only one to do the nursing, all of the housework and to take care of my own business. I know you will understand and forgive my long silence.”
B5. 1/21/44 Letter: ”…I would so love to be able to tell you what you and your work and all you stand for means to me. Maybe the nearest I can come to expressing it, is that since I have read and re-read ‘There Is A River’ and your letters and data, I have lost all fear of anything that can ever happen to me or mine. As I told you before, it is like a ray of sunshine that is always with me now… I do hope I can meet you some day…”
B6. 2/6/44 Letter: “Thank you for the Check reading of Jan. 27 for my husband… Now for another matter: I am ever so sorry to ask you for another favor. For the last 5 months, I have tried and hoped I would not have to trouble you on my own account, but as things go I must ask for your help for myself, and for a Physical Reading. I have been feeling worse and worse, though there are fairly good periods in between. I will not bother you with too many details; will only say that about 12 years ago I started having the most excruciating headaches. I had some before, but nothing as bad. First the doctors thought of a tumor in the brain, then said it was neuralgia. But nothing really helped. Four years ago again, they spoke of tumor, then decided it was migraine; but still they say they cannot help. Then about 6 years ago, I had (was told by a doctor) gall bladder trouble. It improved a bit with draining and Procholon pills. Then a year ago, I was quite sick with it and in the hospital. Though I had neither time nor money for an operation (and still lack both). First they thought I had an obstruction, and even cancer; after every kind of test, I was told my gall bladder was fine, and dismissed.
“Since this past September, I have felt worse and worse. With dizzy or faint spells, my right side feels swollen, and I feel rotten. Please do give me a reading, and help. And if possible, make the instructions simple, for I have to look after my husband, cook, wash, keep house, keep an eye on my old parents and run my own business all by myself; also, there is nobody to help me with the treatments for myself.
“To simplify things, I am writing the list of questions right here, and inclosing a check for $20. for the reading. Questions: (1) What are my headaches and the buzzing in my head, and how to help them? (2) What is the matter with my right side (gall bladder area), and how to help that? (3) What are the itchy spots that come on my face and body. The bone that sticks out and hurts in the big joint of my big toe in the right foot; and the swollen thumb and forefinger on my right hand? Can all that be helped? I will be very, very grateful for a reading, dear Mr. Cayce. I am sorry to trouble you, but nobody but you can help, and the spells are more and more frequent, and worse and longer. I know how busy you are, and that there are much sicker people than I, so will patiently wait for a reading at any time you will see possible to give me one.”
B7. 3/26/44 Letter: “Thank you so much for your nice letters and please excuse me for not having answered before. I have had so much of my migraine lately, and it is getting so bad, it knocks me out. So as soon as I can lift my head, there is a terrible accumulation of work, cleaning, etc. to do, and I could not just dash a casual note off to you… You tell me you can give me a Physical Reading on April 10th, 10:30 to 11:30 E.W.T. How grateful I am, I can’t say, especially since my headaches have been almost continuous and through the night, as well as the day; some last 10 days and nights on end and so much worse than ever before. I will be ready and waiting at …, Mass. Here is the list of questions:
(1) What are my headaches, and what to do for them? Everything in simple drugs like aspirin, as well as Genergine injections and morphine has been tried, without avail. (2) Is there anything I can take to relieve them when they get unbearable until your prescriptions and orders have had a chance to take effect? (3) What is the matter with my side (gall bladder area); is it gall bladder trouble, and what to do for it? (4) What are the queer dizzy or faint spells and continual buzzing in my head, and what to do for them? (5) What is the swelling and stiffness in my right thumb, forefinger down to my wrist, and general weakness in my right arm, and what to do for it? (6) What is the bone that sticks out on my big right toe (big joint), and the dead feeling in that area - can it be helped? (7) What are the itchy spots (almost permanent) on my face and body, mostly on the right side and what to do for them? (8) All my right side, head to foot, seems to be out of order and weaker - what is it? (9) The last thought of the doctor here is that it might be a tumor in the spinal cord - is there one?… Please try and give me simple instructions, for as I wrote you before, there is nobody to help me, and also I have to take care of my husband as per your instructions, keep an eye on my old parents. Do all the housework myself, and run my own business single-handed… God bless you and keep you.”
