This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [2428], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss [1298].

Born October 1, 1937, in New Brunswick, N.J. 22 Bayberry Time of Reading Circle, Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. Mountainside, New Jersey.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: What a funny, funny experience! New Brunswick, New Jersey!

Here we find an entity with abilities which might be said to be limitless provided the ideals and purposes are chosen in the directions in which there is the consideration of the universal consciousness, rather than that of sectionalism or denominationalism, yet very easily would the entity fall under the spell of oriental customs and these are not very orthodox in the occidental world.

4. Then rather would the warnings be to those who are and will be responsible for the environs created for this body.

5. The entity has been and was very close to the activities in the eastern or oriental activities, being one of the Brahma Samaj in Poona in the experience just before this.

6. Hence there is the intent of visions. The entity loves to tell of that which it has seen. Don’t question it, but do keep records of same.

7. Do, more and more, teach the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th of St. John to the entity. Do teach the child, Jesus. These should be the basic principles, beginning with Exodus 19:5; then portions of the letter to the Corinthians, especially that referring to that which is within self.

8. For the body is indeed the temple of the living God. Have this as a principle in the teachings to this entity, in its development, in its growth, and in its cleanliness not merely of body but of mind.

9. This shall be acceded to, should be kept as the first basic principle: Do encourage, rather, the dreams and visions of the entity, but don’t question them. Do record them, and as the periods of its unfoldment come the entity may enter into its work capable of ministering to the needs of this sin-sick world at this time.

10. When the entity, then, is in its thirteenth to fourteenth year, we would give the complete fulfillment of what may be accomplished, if the entity sets its star toward the Star in Bethlehem and not in Poona.

11. We are through.

R1. 5/8/44 Mother’s letter: “I just received the Psychic Reading which you gave for our daughter. Words cannot express my disappointment over this reading. First of all, I definitely stated that I wanted a Life Reading for her and not a psychic reading. I requested a Life Reading in several letters very clearly. This reading is certainly anything but a Life Reading. I was particularly interested in having the questions answered, as they were the definite things I wanted to know. Answers to these questions would be of help in clearing up present annoying situations, and help us to guide her in the future. I am enclosing the same set of questions which I sent in to you before the reading was given. I hope that you will find it in your power to answer these questions soon, as I have been anxiously waiting for these answers for months. I feel sure that you will agree with me that this is a most unsatisfactory reading, in that it is not what I asked for; a Life Reading should be given for my daughter without extra charge.”

R2. 5/10/44 EC’s reply: “I am sorry indeed that you are so badly disappointed with the reading for your daughter, but we did undertake to get a Life Reading. There have been some 3 or 4 experiences when we attempted to get Life Readings that incarnations were not given - not questions answered… If you are displeased, just return the data to me, and I will be glad to refund the membership fee. Until something is done about the suggestions already given, from experience, we have found that nothing more will be given. You have a real responsibility in your daughter. There are few things she might not accomplish this time, if she is directed in the right way…”

R3. 5/12/44 Mother’s letter: ”…I am returning the data as you suggested. I hope that you will not feel that I am unjust in so doing, but my husband and I do not feel that we have gained any information, knowledge or help, in any way by this reading. The reading suggested that we read passages in the Bible to her, which we had done; she has been interested in life of Jesus the last year or so, and we have answered all of her questions to the best of our ability concerning Jesus. As for our daughter telling us about any dreams, visions or experiences which could be recorded, she never has and shows no such inclination.

We are inclined to wonder if there could have been a mistake on the part of the stenographer perhaps, if she could have given us the wrong data. My daughter’s reading stated that she was one the Brahma Samaj in Poona in the experience just before this, which does not coincide with my Life Reading. It said: ‘Before this the entity (myself) was in the present nativity, during the period of American Revolution’. I asked the question: ‘What is the karmic link between my husband, daughter and myself?’ The answer to this was: ‘Before this, both the husband and daughter were close in relationship for both were children of the entity in that sojourn.’ It also seems strange that there could be no Life Reading for my daughter, since my reading said: ‘This may best be seen by paralleling the life of that entity (my daughter) through that entity’s Life Reading or record.’ This was concerning her fear of water, which, by the way, was instantly cured by following the directions given in my reading. I was so in hopes of receiving answers to my questions in another reading, but you did not mention the questions. Do you have results similar to these with most readings for young children, or would you say that the unsatisfactory readings are in the minority? I ask this because our infant son is to have a Life Reading in November. We are seeking knowledge and help from the reading, and if the general run of children’s readings are like this one, I would like to know, so I may cancel the appointment.”

R4. 5/19/44 EC’s reply: ”…We are returning your membership fee… We are also cancelling the appointment for your son…”

R7. 3/5/51 Reply to questionnaire: “I hesitate to write this as it is not a favorable report for your records, and is so remote now that I would much prefer to refrain from commenting. However, since you indicate that it would be of help to you, I will make a few statements. I hope that you will understand that they are not made maliciously, for I have the highest regard for the work as a whole, which Mr. Cayce did, and shall ever be indebted to him for my reading. My husband and I still feel as we did when we received the reading for our daughter, that it was not her reading, but belonged to someone else. The reading contained nothing personal indicating that it was her reading, and did not coincide with my reading at all. There have never been records kept of her dreams, visions for she has only had one which might indicate guidance.

“I questioned her the other day, and she said that she never has any unusual dreams. She shows no talent of a psychic nature, she is very interested in religion; goes to the Presbyterian Church. She has never shown any interest in oriental customs. She is talented in music and art, and is very good in outdoor sports, riding, swimming, etc. I am happy to say that, thanks to my own Life Reading [2428-1] we were able to completely eliminate her fear of water. We followed instructions one night, and the next day she was a changed child. Just loved the water after that, and is an excellent swimmer now.”

R9. 7/19/60 GD’s note: “Today [5043] visited A.R.E. and talked to me about her reading. She is happily married to a naval engineer, now expecting soon her first child. When I asked her how she felt about her reading, she said, ‘The readings have helped us all through our lives, with family problems as well as our spiritual growth and development.’ She indicated that the 14th chapter of St. John had tremendously influenced her since a young child, when she had read it one night while along in the house and frightened and it magically alleviated her fears. Three outstanding dreams during her childhood she remembers; one when she was about 14, which guided her to be a more thoughtful and helpful person to her family and friends instead of concentrating on material desires. In school she studied art and education, was an interior decorator for a while; finds beautiful fabrics and beautiful designs very satisfying. She got married at 21 and has been teaching retarded children for the last two years, but when the baby comes she will not continue her teaching job. She has had a great desire to help these unfortunate children, and since her husband is away a lot in the Navy, she finds the work with these children very satisfying. I found her a very attractive, lovely person and can well believe what the reading said about her, that she is ‘capable of ministering to the needs of this sin-sick world at this time.’ With her husband in the Navy she travels about a lot and is thrown with many people of all walks of life.

“She told me she thought she must have worked with the ‘untouchables’ in India, during her incarnation there which the reading mentioned.”

• otherwise known as “Association for the Worship of God.” See mother’s Life Reading 2428-1, Par. 46-A indicating on 1/6/41 that [5043] was [2428]‘s daughter during the American Revolutionary period [1776] and a friend of [2428] in the prehistory Persian period of Uhjltd.

BRAHMA SAMAJ, “the Union of God” (the term SAMAJ connoting, like “church” an organism, not a mere association), a religious reform society inaugurated by Ram Mohan Roy in Calcutta about 1800. Study of the Hindu scriptures, of Islam, Buddhism in Tibet and the Bible having shown him the perversions of the popular creeds, Ram Mohan embraced the monotheism of the Upanishads, rejecting the polytheism of the SHASTRAS, and in 1816 he drew a congregation of Hindus which recited Vedic and theistic hymns, but made no headway with that community at large. He then joined a Unitarian committee, but it collapsed, and in 1828 he founded the Brahma Samaj. The trust deed of the building dedicated in 1830 declared it to be a place of meeting for all descriptions of men for the worship of the Eternal under no sectarian name. No graven image or icon, and no sacrifices were to be tolerated in it. No object of worship venerated by other sects was to be reviled; but all prayer, hymns and discourses promoting charity, virtue and toleration were to be admissible. Nevertheless, at this stage the new faith was based on the VEDAS. Ram Mohan was, moreover, a keen social reformer and did much to bring about Bentinck’s statutory abolition of suttee in 1829. Soon after, however, he left India and his death at Bristol in 1833 left the Samaj to languish till 1841.

In that year Babu Debendra Nath Tagore, of a well-known Calcutta family, founder of the Tattvabodhini (“Truth- learning”) Sabha (“society”), joined forces with the Brahma Samaj, gave it a printing press, and in 1843 started the TATTVABODHINI PATRIKA, a monthly journal which attained to great influence as an expositor of theism. About 1850, however, Debendra and most of his followers denied the infallibility of the VEDAS, and redefined its creed as faith based on nature and intuition, though religious truth contained in any book was to be respected, man’s beliefs being evolutionary. The Samaj acknowledged the One Supreme God, endowed with personality, moral attributes and intelligence, without incarnations; the immortality and progress of the soul were inculcated; pilgrimages, ceremonial and penances were declared vain and caste distinctions worthless. Stress was laid on moral righteousness. For many years no social reforms were advocated, but in 1865 Babu Keshub Chunder Sen demanded the disuse of the Brahmanical thread by leaders in devotion. This led to schism, and thenceforth there were two branches: The Adi or “original” Samaj, small in numbers, which never increased, and the Bharatvarshiya Brahma Samaj, the Samaj “of India,” which set to work on several schemes of reform. But in 1878 Keshab’s action in countenancing the marriage of his daughter at an early age to the young ruler of Kuch Bihar, despite his own teaching, led to a great secession from the latter branch and the founding of the Sadharan Samaj or “catholic” union, which professes a broad theism. Keshad’s reply was the organization of the “new dispensation” (Nava Bidhana), which went far beyond the older branches in its eclecticism.

R12. 9/1/70 She visited A.R.E. again with her son and little four year old daughter. She and her husband are living in Md. now and are very happy, concentrating on making good parents.

R14. 3/20/80 GD’s note: Today I rec’d a 3/12/80 card in a pkg. from [5043] [now in the Settle, Wn. area], with a picture of her family, she and her husband and two teen-age children, saying:

“You have been in our thoughts and prayers so many times and I have felt so badly about not writing to you. We are especially happy that you are coming to the Marshalls’ retreat in Salkum, and know it will be a wonderful and meaningful time for all of us! I feel so blessed to have met all these dear people in Washington and especially those in our A.R.E. Groups.

“I’m almost counting the days ‘til your arrival and hope that you will be able to use this little gift from me. See you soon.” Love, [5043]

B5. 10/29/43 Mother’s friend, Miss [1298]‘s letter: ”…I personally hope you will be able to give [5043] a reading. The child is very much in need of help which I firmly believe the reading will give. It will be a very much appreciated help from us all…”

B6. 3/21/44 Mother’s letter: “I am enclosing application blank for my daughter, and would like her reading as scheduled on May 4. I shall send you a check for my son’s reading early next fall… I am enclosing questions for my daughter [5043] at this time… (1) What are my daughter’s talents, and for what profession should she be educated? (2) What makes her so slow in everything she does, and can this be corrected, or is it better to allow her to continue at her pace? (3) Is there bad karma between my daughter and H. I. L.? (4) What was the relationship and how can it be overcome? (5) What are her weakest characteristics, and how can they be strengthened? (6) What is the best means of overcoming her untidiness? (7) Why does she care so little for food, craving only sweets? (8) How can this be corrected? (9) What is the karmic link between her and her brother? (10) What is the karmic link between her and her grandmother and grandfather L. I. N. and grandmother W. A. R? (11) What is the Karmic link between the … family and our family?
