This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [5075], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born October 15, 1904, in Chicago, Illinois. Time of Reading Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. N.Y., N.Y.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, what a rocky record! We have the records here of that entity now known as or called [5075]. As we view the records of this entity in the earth’s plane, not only in this, but through the sojourns in the earth and those manifestations of the entity in other dimensional consciousnesses, we find these as latent and manifested as abilities and urges:

3. One who will ever have scores of friends, for it makes itself friendly.

4. One who might without the least try never have to labor, and yet it is part of the consciousness of the entity to desire, to hope for independence. For the entity is a good spender if it has it, and if it hasn’t, it’s a good fellow well met anyway.

5. In the abilities there are few things, very few things with which the entity is not acquainted, and it could make a very good stagger at any character of activities. Yet those that would tend to be of a commercial nature would become rather disagreeable to the entity. Though the entity may enter into commercial activities provided there are associates or partners who are fitted to, and who would look after the detail activities. For this the entity would never, or rarely ever do, and thus those things forgotten or neglected would make such ventures questions or questionable.

6. But in creative activities, as writing, reporting, following through with things that have to do with the upbuilding of human relationships, the entity may make the greater success.

7. The entity has the ability as in activities as in the likes of peoples. Could make a good nurse, but would never, unless there are many changes made, go through the drudgery which is required in such occupations.

8. In giving, then, that which may be applied by the entity for a helpful experience from that which may be given here: Use that as just given as the basis for even the judgements in the latent urges which are manifest. As is given, then, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, not merely because, from an astrological aspect of those termed the urges from same. For the entity in the earthly experience of the three-dimensional application of ideas and ideals, has not run true to form, but has great abilities by knowing in which directions these might be indicated. For, as an illustration, the urges and the abilities of the entity in the present are in that direction of being a nurse. She’d better use it to describe as to what one should be, than undertake to be one herself, see? These may be builded in words, as to their practical application. These would be the question.

9. For Saturn and Mars also indicate the application of self in the resentments, or changes in attitude as from Saturn would interfere, while the abilities in Mercury and in Venus and Jupiter (the description of same) could become easily an inspiration for someone so-minded as to forget self to apply the suggestions.

10. Same as in any commercial undertaking, as in any organization as group activity, the entity’s abilities are to write, as it were, propaganda or truth. For truth may be made propaganda if it is applied right, and the urges are depending upon ever the spirit or ideal as an entity uses in the application of self towards any activity which is connected with others.

11. See in self, then, the virtues as well as the faults. Then, magnify the virtues, minimize the faults.

12. Don’t condemn self more than you would be condemned by thy Maker. Don’t pass over frailties of others because of strength in self, but see thyself as thy abilities and the urges, and know that in Creative Energies, in God, in Christ as God, ye may find strength for the application of thy ideals.

13. Others, yes, is thy motto. But not others to such an extent or degree as to become so zealous as to forget the first principles. What ye sow, ye reap, unless ye have passed from the carnal or karmic law to the law of grace.

14. Then know that whatever exists is for a purpose, for He having overcome the world may aid thee in overcoming the world.

15. As to the urges which are a part of the whole consciousness through the sojourns in the earth: These as we find, as may be seen from the pattern, are varied. While all may not be given, these are indicated in the experience which may be given here:

16. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those periods just prior to the attack upon Fort Dearborn. The entity was then among those who were of those groups in places where questions might arise. Not that the activities of the entity itself were beyond reproach, yet these were sincere in the use of the means and manner to obtain the things (and it was things, not mental experiences) for others in the entity’s own household. These brought questions as to satisfying or gratifying of appetites. The name then was Mary Andersen.

17. In the experience the entity in the material sense gained, in the mental and spiritual lost.

18. As to the abilities which arise from that: This ability to be friendly, to make friends with all with whom the entity may come in contact, came from the period in that activity there.

19. Before that we find the entity was in the Holy Land when there were those teachings which were being a part of the ministers and the Apostles of the Master.

20. The entity taught the young, being all things to all men and yet forgot the appetites and that of habit. The entity was questioned through its associations and activities, and yet brought many to the more perfect understanding, and was a close associate with the companions of, and the close activities with Paul the Apostle, or Saul of Tarsus.

21. The entity’s activities then were in Lystra. The name then was Susana.

22. Before that we find the entity in the Grecian land among those who were of that great group of maidens sent to the “city in the hills and plains” for the activities to undermine the peoples there. Yet the entity became a ministry or minister of mercy in the hospital there, and the one chosen to make the reports to the various leaders in the Grecian land.

23. The entity was beautiful in body and in purpose when once convinced of the sincerity of the peoples in the “city in the hills and the plains”.

24. The name then was Lambrio.

25. Before that we find the entity in the Egyptian land and among the people who were interpreters between the Priest, the King and the peoples in the land to which the Priest was banished. These brought periods of questionings from many sides, for the entity was an individual not desiring to play favorite and yet questioned and yet trusted by all who were in authority.

26. Thus the abilities of the entity and that to which it may attain and how: First study self as to the relationships with Creative Forces or God, knowing that what ye entertain in thought, ideals, purposes, may grow to be a part of thy real inner self.

27. In writing, reporting, the entity may make material success and contribute to the greater welfare of the many.

28. Ready for questions.

29. (Q) Is the project I am undertaking right for my best development? (A) Read that which has been given. If it is in the line with any of these, then ye are in line. Or apply it in the direction given.

30. (Q) Are my present associates the right ones for the work? (A) You can make them what you will, for they listen to you when they don’t to others. Use that thou hast in hand. Then that which is needed, if ye use same to the service of the Creative Forces or God, is given.

R2. 8/14/52 Comment by IMG: “Although Miss [5075] has not contacted A.R.E. since date of her reading, to my knowledge, she has made use of one of the suggestions therein, i.e.: ‘In writing… the entity may… contribute to the greater welfare of the many.’ The other day at a friend’s home, I saw a book written by Miss [5075], which was recently published. The subject matter would benefit any community. To give the name of that book and its author would reveal her identity.”

B1. 9/18/43 Letter: “I have not yet finished reading ‘There Is A River’…but I am so excited about the whole thing, that I feel I must write you now. I seem unable to get on with my work until I have at least made an effort to establish contact with you and your work. I believe the reason I am so anxious to make this connection, apart from my own deep personal interest in the things you have been doing all your life, is the - to me - great similarity in your aims and directions to those that we members of Alcoholics Anonymous are pursuing… We are a group of people (numbering some 10,000 all over the United States now), who were seriously afflicted with the disease of alcoholism, called incurable by doctors and psychiatrists. I myself spent 2 years in hospitals and institutions after I had tried every means to conquer my weakness alone. Nothing really helped me until I heard of and joined Alcoholics Anonymous 4 1/2 years ago; and that is the story of the majority of the 10,000. We have a program - the 12 steps that mean recovery - that, to me, fits in with the philosophy you have discovered in your readings. At the risk of making this letter too long to send, I am going to copy out those steps:…” [Enclosure - 12 steps AA Program.]

“Mr. […] after nearly 9 years with AA (as we call it) has gone from there and has become deeply interested in psychic phenomena. I see a great deal of him, partly because he was my ‘father confessor’ when I came into the AA…and partly because my interests have very closely followed his. Consequently, I too, have become very much interested in psychic matters. We hope that we will be able to get down to Virginia Beach… I did not mean to write so much about us. It is you and your work that I wish to know about… Of course, I would like readings on myself, both Physical and Life…”

B2. 10/20/43 Letter: ”…On receipt of your letter, I had our central office send you our AA literature, and a copy of the book ‘Alcoholics Anonymous’… I should think there might be many cases where you could be of inestimable service to us, and that is one reason why I might say, I would like to get started as an active member of your Association. In any case, Mr. […], has asked me to go ahead with it, and has contributed part of the $20. that I might join. He feels that you have much to give us, and that we in turn might be useful to your work…”

B3. 4/6/44 Letter: “I have not written you since our hasty meeting at that over-crowded and doubly repeated session at Steinway Hall last November, largely because the bulletins I have been receiving regularly have told me of the flood of mail you had to handle…”

P.S. “I think half the members of AA in …, have read your book and all are waiting for my reading with bated breath!…”

B4. 5/3/44 Telegram: “Have received no reply to my letter regarding my appointment for reading 10:30 A.M. May 8. Is that Eastern Standard Time? Will it be Life or Physical? Have you noted real name?… Would appreciate letter before that time.”

B5. 5/3/44 A.R.E. Airmail Special Letter: “We will try to get your Life Reading on May 8, 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Eastern War Time, if you prefer this rather than the Physical. However, you should submit specific questions you desire asked regarding your life and work. Wire us any particular questions you wish answered in the Life Reading. If you choose a Physical Reading instead, be sure to give us the exact address at which you will be during the hour set.”

B6. 5/7/44 Telegram: “Prefer Life Reading. Questions follow: (1) Can I make it of real spiritual value to humanity? (2) Are my activities in the right direction, and how can I improve upon them? Would like all suggestions for doing best possible job. Will be at …, N.Y. on May 8, at 10:30.” [The additional questions submitted are at end of 5075-1.]
