This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the wife, Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [1010].

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes. As we find, there are disturbances with this body, [5085].

3. These are becoming more and more disturbing. As we find, this is an acute condition of a general neuritis reaction from a pressure created in the area where the small intestines enter the colon. Not in the appendix area but above same and a portion telescoping the jejunum, and the swelling and pressure on the colon.

4. As we find, if there would be first the putting of the body in hot water, massaging the body thoroughly and as it is in just the hot water (though Pine Oil would be better), then giving the body (following this) a high colonic irrigation, we will find great relief.

5. This should be followed by massage with equal portions of Olive Oil and Peanut Oil.

6. Keep the alimentary canal clear. It may require the second or even the third irrigation to make for correcting the pressures.

7. Do that.

8. Ready for questions.

9. We are through with this reading.

R1. 5/20/44 Mr. [2998]‘s letter: “Yesterday, Mrs. R. I. L. [[5085]‘s wife] came into the office with her husband’s reading. He expects to be released from the … Hospital, Monday or Tuesday. His plan is to leave Tenn. for Calif., Wednesday or Thursday, and he and his wife hope to be able to get a treatment or two before leaving town, so as to prepare him for the discomforts of the trip. I was very glad that you sent Mrs. R. I. L. to me, as I soon learned that she and her husband know practically nothing of your work and needed a good bit of explanation and encouragement. Her husband has been in Government hospitals for a long time, and has been x-rayed so often that he could paper a house with the negatives. He has had every type of treatment, yet no one has yet discovered the cause of his condition, and no one has been able to give him even temporary relief.

“Your diagnosis and treatment was so astoundingly simple that these people questioned it. I believe that Mrs. R. I. L. can now be classed as a convert, and will take sufficient hope and encouragement to her husband. I arranged for the treatment, and drilled into her skull the necessity of following the treatment literally. I pointed out that her husband was not to be talked into accepting any substitutes; that when you said ‘put the body in hot water and massage it there’, you meant in a tub and not under a shower bath. I also told her that when you said general massage was to be given with half Olive Oil and half Peanut Oil, you meant just that, and no more and no less, and that these items are to be used and substitutes are not to be considered. I finally told her that if he did not receive the expected relief, it would be because the instructions were not literally followed, and I suggested a check reading with questions. I just wanted to make this report to you, so that you would know the [5085]‘s are getting attention… I know that you are too busy to answer this letter, and no answer is necessary.”

R3. 8/44 Wife’s letter: “Will you please change my address in your files. This is the second notification I have sent, and as you can see by the enclosed envelope, the lack of correction has been a nuisance to many people. Please take care of this.”

R4. 3/21/45 Wife’s notation on publication order: “I have checked 2 reports below [Arthritis and Streptococcus Infection] that I should like. Would you kindly check and see if there are any reports on ‘ostitious’ or ‘osteoitis’ that I could have? Enclosed is a dollar for copies of ‘Arthritis’ and ‘Streptococcus Infection.’ Keep change, if any.”

B1. 4/20/44 Wife’s letter: “At the suggestion of our friend, Mother [1010], I am writing you for a Physical Reading for my husband who is now in Ward 9 A of the … General Hospital in …, Tenn. Our friend thinks this case is really desperately urgent, and hopes you will be kind enough to give it your immediate attention before my husband is moved to another ward and the doctors want to perform a spinal operation just because they don’t know what is wrong with him. He has a terrible aching pain in his body some place most of the time. Started on Jan. 1, 1941 under his left shoulder blade. In May it was across the small of his back, and some times in his chest. October 1942, he had terrific pain in right hip and could not walk, was in hospital 6 weeks, and doctors could not find cause of pain. About 2 months later, the pain started to travel throughout his body. So far, he has had no relief whatsoever from this, nor can they tell him the cause of it. These last 2 weeks he has been in constant pain, seems to be getting worse. In hips, back, legs, or some place all the time. (1) What is the cause of this pain? (2) Is it nerves, muscular, in the bones, blood stream, or what? (3) If caused by some poison being thrown off in his system, where is it coming from? (4) What can be done to give him some relief from this terrific pain? (5) Can he be cured and how? The questions are as Mrs. [1010] suggested to me, and I put my plea with hers to please give him your immediate attention before this constant suffering affects his mind, or the doctors start cutting. Can you possibly tell what is causing this pain that is in his body most of the time?”

B2. 5/3/44 Wife’s letter: “Could you possibly set my husband’s reading up to May 6 or May 8, at the same time of the day, as he is being discharged because they cannot find out what is wrong with him, or do anything to give him relief. So he may not be there on the 11th. If you possibly can, please do; if not, go ahead on the 11th, unless I wire you he has left. I am leaving here the 6th to go to Memphis, and do not know where I will be located, so will have to notify you next week as to where to mail his reading. Sorry to have to bother you with extra instructions, etc., but can’t be helped this time. You know how the Army is. Thank you in advance…”

B3. 5/8/44 Wife’s letter: “This is to inform you that my husband will still be in the hospital as per the information I sent you… I will remain here at the hotel until then, so please mail his reading to me here. I will appreciate it very much, as we are so very anxious to know what is causing all his trouble”
