Catholic) This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [5095], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 4:05 to 4:20 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Utah.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, in a bad condition for a young man!
-
As we find, there are disturbances which have been very poorly taken care of at times.
-
These began from a catarrhal condition that existed in the nasal passages and the sinus, and in the soft tissue of head and throat.
-
The removal of same, not removing the causes, has brought about those reactions that are not good for the body; though only sympathetically do we find the lungs or the digestive system involved in same. That is to the advantage of the body.
-
We find that these applied will make for improved conditions and gradually we may eliminate the disturbances to such an extent that there may be near to normalcy, but the attending weakness will be a result in the respiratory system and through the circulation in the soft tissue. And it will be necessary to keep these activities over a long period, periodically; not necessarily being kept the whole time but periodically. But be consistent and be persistent - we will bring help, if these are followed consistently.
-
There must be the attending to the diet, not pretending to follow a particular diet and then disregarding it at times, but being consistent all the way through.
-
First we would give that there be an inhalant prepared. Don’t attempt to use this in the beginning in a spray, but have prepared in a large-mouth bottle with two vents that may be kept corked, leading into the vacuum above the solution put in the container. These should be preferably glass tubes, but not extending deep enough to touch the solution, for only the fumes are to be inhaled into the nasal passages, and into the throat; not into the esophagus but into the trachea and bronchi - for these are showing the effect of these irritations. This will remove these disorders. Into the container, which would be about an eight ounce bottle, put these ingredients in the order named:
Pure Grain Alcohol…4 ounces, Oil of Eucalyptus…20 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…5 minims, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…20 minims, Oil of Pine Needles…10 minims, Tolu in Solution…30 minims.
-
Use a medicine dropper for this, not just pouring or guessing at it.
-
When this is to be used, shake the solution well, remove the corks from the little vents, and through one of these vents inhale deep into each side of the nostrils, then inhale deep into the lungs. Do this two to three times each day.
-
Over the area where there is the tendency for the curvature, in the dorsals of the spine, where the activities of the body-structural forces are weakened, massage an equal combination of Mutton Tallow (melted), Spirits of Turpentine and Spirits of Camphor. Massage this in twice each day; and once each day - when ready to retire of evening - apply a flannel across the area. Remove this when arising and when the bath is taken.
-
When the bath is taken, let it be real warm, shower off and then massage the area with an equal combination of Olive Oil (heated) and Tincture of Myrrh.
-
After this has been done about two weeks, then let a good neuropath - not an osteopath, but a neuropath - follow the nerve forces along the whole length of the spine, gently, once each day, until about 15 or 18 such treatments are taken.
-
Then leave these off and take the packs and rubs again for at least 10 days.
-
Then we would have once a week the neuropathic massages; keeping up the inhalations throughout the period.
-
These as we find will rid the body of these disorders and bring better conditions for the body.
-
Do add a great deal of sea foods to the diet; not fresh water fish, but sea foods and fish from the sea, and other activities that carry iodine to the body; silicon and such properties that may be had from turnips, carrots, red cabbage - these should be a part of the diet. Have a great deal of raw vegetables prepared with gelatin. Gelatin foods are well also to include.
-
Not too much of white bread or of white potatoes; go rather light on these, and not too much of any kind of meat except fish, fowl or lamb - these in moderation, but the greater part of the foods should be those indicated for the body.
-
If there is not the ability to obtain sea foods readily, do daily add to the body’s diet one little one-grain pellet of Calcidin. This is a combination of iodine and calcium that will aid in alleviating the lack of elements in the system.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Any mental and spiritual advice? (A) The body has very good ideas, if they are made to conform with ideals. Study to show thyself approved unto thy ideal. Not only in what you believe, but know who is the author of thy faith, and that He is able to keep whatever may be committed unto that body, that entity, that ideal, against any experience. For who healeth all thy diseases? Who supplyeth thy desires? It is He in whom ye live and move and have your being.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/14/44 Letter: “I have received the suggestions of a reading given for me on April 20, and must admit that I am excited and feel a mental relief. May not be honest reason, but to be truthful, I can see here such an objective manifestation of faith, can dispel the pessimism which is conditioned by bodily ailments. I am intensely devoted to the prescriptions, but am uncertain of being able to follow the suggestions through thoroughly. In the suggestion of neuropathic spinal treatments, I feel licked for I can’t find a neuropath in this city. In an attempt to find a neuropath, instead I have found other therapists and massagers or masseuses. Is it possible to gain the spinal treatments by others? Should it be necessary for me to have the treatments given by none other than a neuropath and will necessitate my seeking a neuropath in some other city, I feel that I must do so.
Since I am an employee of a Continental Air Line, it doesn’t seem impossible to obtain transfer of employment to that location. For the last year I have been receiving scalp treatments for correction of my scalp disorders, which I sense is caused by nerve difficulties, and am receiving beneficial results. Now that I would have to go elsewhere, I believe that I could continue my bodily correction and gain the normal bodily conditions in the future. Also in the first paragraph, to apply a flannel across the area, isn’t understood. For where mention is made to resume packs and rubs again for at least 10 days, an inexplicity [?] develops as to whether flannel is meant for a piece of cloth, or a compound as packs suggests. I regret to be a bother in such a respect, especially in view of consuming time and realize how others may gain. An intense eagerness and anticipation of results of a positive nature prompts me to be exacting as to the suggestions of the reading.”
R2. 6/17/44 EC’s reply: ”…If you can get the masseur to follow the suggestions referred to, which they can, if they will, then it would be just as well to have the masseur. Instead of giving the massage, let them follow the nerves as a neuropath would give the treatment… I hope you will be able to follow through with all of the suggestions.”
R3. 7/7/44 Letter: “Good fortune has been mine to have found a Naturopath, Dr. P. Y. O. [Pyott, W. H., N.D.] who will give the neuropathic treatments as suggested in the reading given for me on April 20. He is very much interested in the work and the methods of healing and correcting by the naturopathic method, and is particularly glad to have the objective manifestation of the Power you possess. I am somewhat reluctant to follow through entirely his suggestions, because they are not entirely as the reading shows. For instance, to not have a daily spinal massage, but one every 2 or 3 days. A seemingly full benefit will not be had from daily benefits.
Other treatments involving sinus ultra ray treatments are recommended and which will be in sympathy or complimentary to the suggestions I have received. ‘Tis not that Dr. P. Y. O. is skeptical nor has any doubts of the ultimate outcome of the readings’ suggestions but he is of sincere faith of the good that will result. In fact he has asked to mention and find out if you would have any objections were he to place your name on his mailing list which publicizes the work of his clinic. Also, he has read ‘There Is A River’, and is in acclaim of it. I must add that ‘There Is A River’ has been very wonderful and has answered many questions of which I have wondered.
I must tell of the disappointment I received recently. In hope of gaining support and have validated your ability and power, I sought the reason of a Priest of my Faith. I was very bitter to have found the deliberate irrational reason which he used and wanted to discredit your work. Although I asked him to read the book which I have - ‘There Is A River’
- and to study the objective facts, he still maintained an impossible and ridiculous attitude. Regardless, I hope and believe that I am a prudent man and capable of rational reason and am determined to do as my better judgment tells. My contact with you has given me much which is not materially measurable.
I would very much like to have your opinion and advice as to whether Dr. P. Y. O. is going to nullify the reading or if the good that is suggested and can be mine will come to that desired end. I also must add that I have not followed the directions exactly as given. I have not applied the flannel as told for the uncertainty of what was meant. Whether the word flannel indicative of a pack or simply a piece of cloth. Otherwise, I have done well. The inhalant is used regularly and a noticeable effect is evident by immediate members of the family. They know of the difficulties I have had with my nose and the offending breathing. Now they agree that no disagreeable breath is present. Of course, I must keep a constant vigil and be consistent with the inhalant in order to have normal conditions. But with the massages of the back I have had difficulty and don’t believe the desired has been done. For I have had to do the massaging to myself and can honestly say that the region wasn’t entirely rubbed. I have managed to reach around and get the spinal column and was somewhat frightened to trace the curvature and find the great deviation from the spinal axis.
Caution must be used to report any or true developments of a desired nature. Enthusiasm is great and must be inhibited for I have an abundance of Faith.”
R4. 7/11/44 EC’s reply: “If I were in your place, I would insist that Dr. P. Y. O. follow the suggestions just as they are indicated in the reading… I feel sure that if you do follow through with all of it you will get results. I can understand your disappointment at finding someone making slighting remarks about something you have come to believe in…”

Background
Background
B1. 1/4/44 Letter to GD: ”…You may know what an obsession it is to meet a personality like Mr. Cayce. ‘Tis difficult to express the feelings one gains from the experience of becoming acquainted with the work of Mr. Cayce. I am humbly grateful to Mr. Cayce, for my outlook on life has changed considerably; gone is the pessimism and cynicism to which I was conditioned. It’s well to know how effective ill health can be upon mental attitudes. Through the correction of my sinus trouble, I eventually will be able to attain a better position. There is a definite mark of improvement, and faith assumes an overall overcoming that handicap. I wish to receive the following booklets: ‘Am I My Brother’s Keeper?’ and ‘The Common Cold’…”
B2. 1/10/44 Letter: “I was glad to have received an answer to a previous letter, and can say that I am excited. The possibility of finding or learning of something which heretofore has been shunned as mystical, that can open another realm in which to reason, cannot be taken lightly… In the hectic trials of today, and of threatening social chaos of tomorrow, I am quite disturbed. Probably more than I should be or even shouldn’t be.
…A longing hovers over me to overcome my physical handicaps. Am disgustingly perturbed to find that men with families must go off to induction, while I apparently, quite obviously to many, am in sound condition, but remain. In reality, I should be off, for I am single and carefree within marital respects. Gladly would I go off and assume my part… I wish to add that any information or help that is sought I will gladly let be known…”
B3. 4/14/44 Letter: ”…Because my difficulties keep me out of the Army and were imposing to conclude my education, I very much wish to ask questions which are of that nature. (1) How may I correct my nasal membrane? Relief is temporary when a salt water solution is used to wash the passages, but continual collecting of mucous is constant, because the membranes do not carry on their full function. Has or is this the cause of my supposedly so-called allergy? How beastly wicked this is, for I scratched and itched from my head to my feet. I actually pulled out the hair from my scalp from the itching, for now it is quite denuded. Relief couldn’t be had even when I stuck my head into a pan of cold water. To correct this nasal ailment, which I have been told is ozena [?], will be a new birth for me. Then I could adjust myself psychologically, and wouldn’t have to maintain that introvert complex. Of my right lateral scoliosis, spinal curvature, I do not know of what I can ask, except that - could I do anything to have it straightened? For my induction examination, I was told that I was turned down on account of my nasal ailment and not spinal. For the Army allowed a 2-inch deviation from the true axis of the spine.
Again, another doctor told me that I had more than a 2-inch deviation. My questions are two: (1) How can I overcome my nasal trouble, and (2) Can I correct my spinal curvature? The depression of having clearness of thought and concentration was very devastating while I was going to school. I was perplexed with fear to find that I had no sense of smell. But I had to continue through school and attend classes with others, in spite of that fact that my nasal ailment was offending and obnoxious. An attitude of being incapable because of inferiority obsessed me. God knows but how great and intense was my desire for learning. Fortunately, I can find leisure in studying classics and enjoying classical music for they aren’t learned through the sense of smell. Hopefully, I await for the reading…”
