This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [5112], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, “There Is A River”.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane, giving the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, yes, we have the records here - what funny little bungalows - of that entity now known as or called [5112].

3. There is the tendency here to tell the entity the difference between what life has been and what the rest of the life is to be. For there’s quite a difference, and we do not find it the best for the entity to return to this region of the peculiar looking huts, but with the music that is a part of the entity’s consciousness (and it may be manifested or expressed especially in its dealings with the early teen-age girl), the entity may contribute the greater blessings in the rest of its experience in this sojourn.

4. In analyzing the urges latent and manifested, as the entity has experienced, while circumstances often apparently change the activities, the entity will find that, whatever the environs, there is nothing that may indeed separate the entity from the love of the Father, and of doing His biddings, save self.

5. For if you can’t spend a thousand dollars to preach the word, you can give ten cents and preach more in what you say and do to people ye meet every day. Yet it is true the entity has experienced, and may yet experience, that unless the missionary is sent, unless the missionary goes to others, those others may heathenize even America. For, to be sure, civilization again moves westward.

6. As to the urges which are latent and manifested, as has been indicated, music, song, rhythm, has a great deal to do with the activities of this entity. Use it, don’t abuse it. Things, conditions which are unusual have a particular interest for the entity, and there are among its souvenirs many things which are indeed curios.

7. That of being concentrated and consecrated as to remain in one given direction of activity is the hardest job of the entity. Not that the entity is inconsistent, but it is too oft tended to, “Well, if this don’t work, why I’ll try something else.”

8. Be sure you are right before you start. For the law of the Lord is perfect and it converteth the soul. While the entity is indeed soulful, don’t be so changeable as to cause inconsistency in the minds and activities of those ye would aid.

9. Astrological influences have little to do with this individual entity.

10. In Mercury we find the urges as to curiosity, the seeking of wisdom, the seeking of knowledge. Don’t forget that curiosity killed the cat! Do remain stable. Not that the entity is fickle, but rather as has been given, when ye start something finish it!

11. As to the experiences in the earth which give the pattern of the entity’s activity, we find while all are not given, these indicate the tendencies and pattern of the entity:

12. Before this we find the entity in the land of the present nativity when there was the searching westward for gold.

13. The entity ready and willing, and while it brought many a hardship and brought many changes, it suited the entity. For the changes and the experiences were well, and this fits the entity to be one to direct, one to encourage, one to make those changes in the lives and groups, especially of the early teen-age girl.

15. Before that we find the entity was in the French land, during those periods of the early or the second Crusades.

16. The entity was in sympathy with its companion, but the entity desired to go also, which proved to be rather disturbing or discouraging to the entity. For, going in the activities necessitated the entity appearing to be something it was not.

It brought hardships, it brought something that did something to the entity’s consciousness as to morality; in words, not in activity, but in words.

17. Hence the curiosity, hence those things which pertain to the unusual. For it was very unusual in that experience for a woman to pose as a man in order to be with her husband, and then was with the husband of everyone else who had been left at home! In the activities the entity gained self-control and remained true to its own ideas and ideals as in marital relationships. These have their expression in the tenets of the entity which are deep within self.

19. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land when there were those periods of banishment. The entity chose to go with the Priest and remained, and thus this particular portion of the earth has a call for the entity, but in the present make the corner where thou art the brighter.

20. In the experience the entity gained, the entity made for correcting the activities in all phases of man’s experience, and yet was separated from those of its own activities.

22. As to the abilities of the entity, then:

23. As has been indicated, these may be best used in most any direction where there is teaching, where there is ministering especially as related to teen-age girls. These are the fields of service, but rather in its own environ, for the next three to five years.

25. (Q) What would God have me do with the rest of my life? (A) As has been indicated, directing the life of the early teen-age girls. Do use music in same.

26. (Q) How can I help my husband and how reach a closer spiritual unity? (A) Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman not ashamed, rightly dividing the words of truth, and keeping self unspotted from the world.

27. (Q) Where should I send the younger daughters to college? (A) As we find, in such as Christian College in Fort Worth, Texas.

28. (Q) Why have I always been spared and blessed - my only troubles caused by lack within myself of ability, confidence or charm? (A) As ye have asked, so have ye received; as ye sow, so ye reap. Look within, analyze self, self’s ideals. Are they in keeping with the pattern of the Master?

B1. 7/8/43 Letter: “I have been so inspired by the reading of your life and revelations that I feel I must communicate with you. After reading the library copy, I purchased the book especially to study the chapter on philosophy. I find this most thrilling and liberating. Like yourself, I was reared in the ‘Campbellite’ tradition and am loyal to it. My husband and I were missionaries for 15 years in the Belgian Congo, and have been here for 10 years, educating our 4 children. My husband is a practicing physician. I am at work in the church, but have not felt satisfied with that expression of religion of late. All my life I have had great faith in prayer, and I may say, rather wonderful answers especially when fully resigning all to God’s will and asking Him to plan for me. This is working out too, in the lives of my children apparently. I hesitate to ask for your time and attention, which is so needed for those who are ill in body or spirit. However, if time and strength permit, I should like to know more of this philosophy, for it seems to answer my constant prayer that I may ‘know the truth and the truth shall make you free’.

“I long to know what is wrong with the church, and how can it better minister to the present age in carrying out God’s program? I have always had a strong feeling that God had a special task or mission for me that I have not yet found or fulfilled. There are also personal relationships which I have not solved, even though I have prayed and tried earnestly. However, perhaps I should not ask for help when others are more needy. I do gain great help from communion with God, and your revelations have given me a new vision of God, of Christ, of humanity and life. I am deeply grateful. I have complete faith in the truths you have revealed.”

B2. 9/20/43 Letter: “I hate to ask this favor, but I know you are accustomed to having people turn to you in times of stress. I also know your schedule is full, but something has come up which has sort of made a crisis in my life. I feel desperate and life seems almost intolerable. Perhaps I am seeing it all wrong, but I do feel the need of immediate help. Would it be possible to give me the Life Reading at an earlier date than the one planned? Of course, I know many others need your help, and I don’t want to crowd anyone else out who needs it more than I… As a Christian who depends so on prayer, I am ashamed to find myself in such a state. I know God will help me, but feel you can do much to unravel the tangle right now. Perhaps I need the Physical Reading, as nerves and glands may play a part. If you think so and can give the time, I’ll send the $20. I can’t tell my husband about it. Questions: (1) Why do I find it such an effort to go on living? (2) Is it necessary for me to try so hard in order to save people like me? (3) Do I lack personal magnetism, sex attraction, or is it fear, lack of confidence or personality traits that make me feel my marriage is not a success - that I am not making my husband happy or achieving the unity I have so prayed for? (4) Would it be wrong to seek death, if it would make him happier and avoid hurting my children by separation? (5) Do I expect too much of life, and too much response from those I love? (6) How can I relax or rest my over-taxed emotions?”

B3. 9/21/43 Letter: “I’m afraid I wrote rather hastily yesterday… I want to assure you that I know it is wrong to take our lives in our own hands. I’ll be patient and follow God’s will for me. In praying for help this help has come. The message seemed to say: ‘Relax in God and let the creative force work for you.’ I’m sure I’ve been striving too hard, and so defeated my own and His purposes, and grown very weary… I know He will show the way and carry me thru, and so shall be patient till you can help clear the path ahead, without undue strain on yourself…”

B4. 10/19/43 Letter: ”…I have just had quite a series of X-rays made, and am following the treatment indicated. As I have told you, my husband is a physician. Although a true Christian, he, like most scientific men, is not particularly open to suggestions along other lines. He would not object to my having the Life Reading, however, as I have perfect freedom in such matters. If you will reserve me a time for a Physical Reading, I shall either gain His cooperation or ask you to give the time to my daughter. You were good enough to offer the first appointment without charge, because of our years in the mission field… In asking for the Physical Reading, I shall send the fee.”

B5. 3/3/44 Letter: ”…I feel that, although I have not yet had a reading, as I gave my appointment to one who was in great distress, [[3396], a friend] that most of my problems have been solved since my contact with your group. I believe that increased faith and prayer have worked the miracle.”

B6. 5/4/44 Questions submitted in addition to those at end of 5112-1: “(1) Is there some special work He planned for me? (2) Have I missed it? (3) Is it still to be found, or is it now too late? (4) Can you advise if we should return to Congo for another term now? What about father [in-law] in case we go? (5) How can I gain a feeling of being adequate for my life situation, or gain this adequacy? (6) Is it right and possible for me to regain the assurance and buoyancy I had previous to my marriage? (7) Why do I seem to myself, to not have a definite integrated personality, but have rather always sought to change and improve it, emulating others and even pretending I was another, who had more assurance and charm? (8) Is it true, as it seems to me at times, that I care more for my friends than they do for me? If so, why is this true? (9) Do my emotions drain my energy too much? (10) Why do I feel more at ease with women than with men? Can I overcome this handicap? (11) I have a great desire to cheer others and myself by being able to create fun and mirth in a wholesome way. Is this possible; if so, how shall I develop this ability? (12) Why have I never, since marriage, been able to use the talents which seemed to mean much to me and my friends before this time? (13) Why do I feel I prefer to be buried near my childhood home? Is this important? (14) Is it true that my departed mother sometimes comes to my aid? Is it right that I should call on her when troubled? (15) Can I overcome absent-mindedness; if so, how? (16) Do I have any special talent or ability which could and should yet be developed? (17) Am I neglecting any duties or opportunities to be of service? (18) Should I teach youth at Sunday School, or work with a different age group?”
