This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Dr. [5118], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born August 19, 1885, in Soraas in Bestnes, Norway. Time of Reading Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Ill.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces, giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited, in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions as I ask them.

2. EC: A fourth dimensional mind!

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now calling self [5118]. There are very interesting, very unusual symbols indicating the activities of this entity in its search for a more coordinating of those purposes and ideals with activities in the earth and the sources of same.

4. More and more should the entity study self; not merely from a pathological standpoint, but the effect of mind upon the physical structure. For, as the body studies the creating or the fertilization of the fluid in bodies when conception takes place, as to its growth and how it draws upon the pattern in the body from which it has taken its form, it may be seen that the body may be entirely different in structure - as to height, etc., or because of activity of certain elements upon which the body may feed in the physical, or because of that it may view - as in mind - as to the pattern.

5. These studies should give the entity a greater concept of self’s analyzing of the control of individuals, as well as of how the body may use the structural portions of the body as leverage in releasing congestion in muscular forces, or how that because of pressures upon segments along the cerebro-spinal system, in areas where there is the coordination between sympathetic and cerebro-spinal system, there may be tensions relieved and better eliminations set up through the eliminating channels of a body.

6. For the study of man, mind and body, is the manner in which an individual entity may analyze or study human relationships one with another. Thus may this entity gain the greater concept of the good it may accomplish.

7. But as the entity analyzes, take this also into consideration: Man finds himself, or this entity, composed of a body, a mind (and that mind is a body, for it has its limitations) and a soul - or a three-dimensional consciousness. Yet only the physical body may be apparent physically. The mind may be apparent but not visible, not as in touch, but as in the feeling and the visioning of what the thoughts may be. Yet no one can tell another exactly what he thinks, though certain vibrations may be felt. For instance, the entity in its own experience may experience such activities as to find self in relationship with symbols that to the entity represent certain feelings and certain activities within the scope of the activity of others. But know that all arises from the spiritual attitude and aptitude of self, as well as other entities.

8. These, the entity should consider as it studies and analyzes others.

9. So many changes have been wrought in the urges latent from astrological aspects that there is little reflex from these for this entity in the present. Thus, we find the entity prone to judge by material results, rather than considering spiritual, mental and material as one. But know that all have their part in the formation of the individuality, as well as the personality of others.

10. As to the appearances in the earth, this entity has had many. Not all to be indicated here, but:

11. Before this the entity was in the land of the present sojourn. Hence those attractions that have brought the entity to the present environs. For the entity is a “sensitive”, as indicated in the manner in which it studies the anatomical structure, as well as the mind structure. Not enough stress is put on the spiritual, for the sources. For, what comes in mind, in materiality, must first have been created in the spirit. For the earth was first without form and void. So is mind, or matter. It is first a desire, a consciousness, a fluid, a gas. It is united, it becomes, as it were, as a “feeling” for. So may the entity in itself find the same. These are of particular interest to the entity.

12. Then the entity came into the land with the hopes for seeking freedom from certain oppressions, from the seeking of others to tell them that they should think.

13. Hence the entity in the present finds itself as one loving freedom, yet latent within self there is somewhat of a resentment when there are not agreements. Be more in accord with not necessarily the times or the day, but know that others can think as well as yourself, and it’s worth listening to. Use that ye may apply in thyself, not selfishly, nor yet that ye may lord over others, but that ye may in the greater measure be a channel of blessings to others; spiritually, mentally, materially; not attempting to control others’ thoughts but offering opportunities.

14. For know that no individual may be controlled unless he chooses or allows himself to be. Be sure that you are right and then go forward.

15. Then in the name Alexiacasan, the entity gained. For it set a united effort in the minds and experiences of many.

16. Before that the entity was in the Norse land during those periods when portions of the coastland were being overrun.

17. The entity then was one who set about to establish new activities, new endeavors for many groups of people.

18. Thus those things,of the soil, things having to do with social and moral law, are a portion of the consciousness.

19. The name then was Oson.

20. Before that the entity was in the Atlantean land when there were those groups being set in other lands for various purposes and activities.

21. The entity was among those of the group that came into Egypt. With the establishing of the Temple of Sacrifice, the entity set about to use the tenets and truths that had been a part of the experience in Atlantis, of the children of the Law of One. These were used as suggestions in those periods, with the elements and drugs used as sedatives, for activities in the Temple of Sacrifice or for the surgery, in preparing individuals for definite services, by the removal of those things that would cause one to become different-minded because of the relationships to the activities in a pre-existence or pre-period of materiality.

22. The name then was Usdus-Tan.

23. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, as indicated there is a very high mental ability; one with the pattern for a searcher, one with many urges for carrying on, many urges for activity and study as to the activities of mind over matter, mind over activities in a physical body.

24. Do study the anatomical structure more in relation to spirit, mind and body, and we will find that the entity may make a greater contribution to the mental, spiritual and material welfare for individuals in this particular experience.

25. We are through for the present.

Godfrey: “The following may be of interest to you: In about 1912 or 1913, I came across a man who was advertising and selling an instrument he called an Oxypator, claiming that the use of it would greatly enhance or increase oxidation in the body. I was feeling low and quite out of sorts at that time, without being really sick as perhaps a result of too much work and long hours of study. But nothing I did seemed to get me out of the condition, so I sent for an Oxypator. It proved to be a bright metal cylinder about 8 inches long, with an electric cord attached to each end, each cord terminating in a small metal plate. The instructions? Put cylinder in a vessel of cracked ice and attach metal plates to right wrist and left ankle with a change over to left wrist and right ankle on alternate days. So you may surmise my surprise when I received practically the same instrument from you. Did Edgar Cayce’s instructions anent this instrument come at a later date, or was the other one a result of his readings, as I understand he was in Chicago around that time, under the auspices of the Hearst newspapers. Isn’t that correct? Anyway, from the moment I began to use the first instrument, I commenced to feel lighter, easier and better throughout my whole body, and I had quite a similar sensation from the use of your instrument. From observations in many cases, I am sure we have an instrument here, which is quite harmless, and yet can be of great benefit in a large number of cases. It might also be of interest to state that through the instigation of the American Medical Association, the Federal Government Postal Department, I believe, declared the Oxypator to be entirely useless and a fraud, and consequently denied the makers of it, the use of the mails, which of course soon put that business out of business. And so was chalked up another victory for perhaps well-meaning ignorance.”

R7. 4/26/49 HLC’s letter: “Marsden Godfrey forwarded to me your comment on the Radio Active Appliance. It will be necessary for me to check the files to see just when the first Radio Active Appliance was given, but I believe it was early in 1911. We are glad to have the information on the Oxypator…”

R8. 9/16/49 A.R.E. letter: “The following is the name of one of our members to whom we recommend you: Mr. M. I. S. of …, Indiana. We would greatly appreciate your giving this man every consideration…”

R9. 10/25/49 Letter: ”…Mr. M. I. S. has been under my care for a short time, and though it is rather a difficult case, I believe we shall be able to make a great deal of headway. Thanks to your teachings, his attitude and understanding are good, which makes it a lot easier for both patient and doctor…”

R12. 4/17/50 Reply to questionnaire: “I enclose herewith some belated answers to your questionnaire on my Life Reading which may or may not be of any value to you. I would indeed be interested in the readings on the endocrine glands, and would be very thankful if you would send this to me. Might mention that I had the great pleasure of again meeting and talking with Hugh Lynn Cayce last night. I still have a copy of my reading, which I have read 10 to 15 times; in fact, I read it only a few days ago. I have shown my reading to a few friends who are interested, although I have not given anyone a copy of it. I consider my Life Reading true, as it seems to fit in with so many factors and particular interests in my life. As for example when the reading refers to my name in a former sojourn in Norway as Oson, which probably in the native language would be Oasan or Oasen, oa or aa being a letter non-existent in the English language. As (hill or ridge) is a typical Norwegian name with variations such as Soroas (south hill), Neroas (nether hill), Overoas (upper ridge) etc. The name of the place where I was born and raised was Soroas. Many more striking points could be mentioned; but this is already becoming too lengthy. There is no doubt in my mind as to the correctness of the reading.

Do I believe in reincarnation of the soul? Yes, as it is the only teaching that makes sense and gives meaning to man’s existence here. Life cannot die. It merely changes form and expression. And if a soul or entity, that at least has the quality and ability to earn immortality, was consigned to existence on this earth for just a few short years of one lifetime, what could possibly be the purpose? Volumes could be written in response to this question. Suffice it to say: Karma is the law of exact justice. Or, as a man sows so shall he reap, though the reaping may be deferred into later incarnations. Environment and inheritance may influence a person’s actions and so influence karma. Inheritance of character, of traits is a carrying over of one’s own soul qualities, rather than ‘getting’ something from parents, though training naturally influences the unfoldment and expression of action and qualities, in which case such trainer becomes responsible in a karmic sense.

As we are making karma and atoning or expiating karma every day, it must follow that we in our life and action are part free and part bound. There is a negative goodness which accomplishes little or nothing, and there is a positive, active goodness which brings results accordingly. There is an evil of ignorance and omission which may be forgiven, though karma says its results must be atoned. But there is also an evil of intent and purpose which must be punished as well. Besides our personal karma, we should also remember there is a national or race karma, which it becomes our lot to balance and work out collectively as the millenniums roll on. To me, karma is the only thing which can satisfactorily explain the seeming cruelties and injustices of life. It has given me a greater sense of surety as it has affirmed many things previously felt or hoped or suspected.

A busy doctor is too often disturbed or often too tired to enter onto a regular program, much as he might plan or desire to do so. However, a practice of that kind [daily meditation] is of long standing to me, and has brought excellent results. I feel my present vocation is my life work. You are doing excellent work, and I doubt if I can suggest any improvement in the program. I think your little Periodical ‘The Searchlight’ is a strong factor in keeping the interest alive among Association members, as well as being a means of creating interest in the work in others. The department ‘Readings to Live By’ I think, is an invaluable source of information to professional and laymen alike.”

The question of a fourth dimensional mind. First let me state that I don’t even know what a fourth dimension is. However, I have always had a tendency toward abstract thinking, thinking along universal lines, to analyze and reason. But I expect this is the way any philosophical mind works. It might be of interest to mention that it seems natural to me, not merely to look at an object but through it, not as a solid, but as a live, pulsating something, merely held in suspension for the time being, whether it be a human body or a so-called solid object. Whether or not this has anything to do with a fourth dimensional mind, I do not know.

The question of studying self: There has always, it seems, been that urge toward introspection and to analyze, with an insatiable urge toward the ideal and an everlasting dissatisfaction of things as they are. In the healing field, the question in my mind has ever been, not merely what is wrong, but why. The Cayce reading has definitely opened the door a little wider on this and many other points, and given me the feeling of being on more solid ground. It has affirmed the fact that healing and health must be synonymous with enlightenment.

Working with the soil: I was born and raised on a farm - and things of the soil have always been one of my special loves. It has always been my longing to return to the soil, to see what can be done with it, toward greater or better production.

While growing up in the old country, I was quite active in all kinds of social work, especially in the temperance movement. It just seemed to a natural urge. Since coming to this country, this work has been confined to the dissemination of the knowledge of health living.

As to the decision of becoming a doctor: This is perhaps a little funny or strange - whichever you wish to call it. When I was quite a young boy, I can remember my mother asking once, what I would like to become when I grew up. She said: ‘Would you like to become a doctor?’ I answered: ‘That is the last thing in the world I should like to be.’ Remember, I had seen nothing but the general ineffectual practice of medicine. But after I had been in this country for a few years and found there were definite systems of dietetics and treatment toward natural healing, coupled with mental factors as propounded by New Thought Christian Science, etc., I knew well what I wanted. From then on, there was no doubt.

Another most interesting point in my Life Reading: In mentioning a former existence in Norse land, it gives the name as Oson. In the Norwegian language, there is a letter aa, which is not found in the English alphabet. Its sound is as the ‘ou’ in ‘bought’, ‘thought’, or ‘au’ in ‘caught’. Aas is a most typical Norwegian name and means a ridge or high hill. It comes in many ways as: Aasan or Aasen (the hill), Soraas (south hill, the place where I was born and raised), Neraas (nether ridge) etc. It is easy to surmise that in the reading the recorder upon hearing this name would put it down as Oson, this being the nearest the English letters could come to the Norwegian sounding. This fact I have mentioned to you before.

One sentence in the reading is rather interesting. Quote: ‘As well as of how the body may use the structural portions of the body as leverage in releasing congestion in muscular forces.’ I had already been working on a special system of exercise along these lines - a system, which I find to be especially effective.

It is rather significant, I think, that my Life Reading speaks almost entirely of healing by physical, mental and spiritual processes, something which has practically been my life work.

Needless to say, the reading has been of great help to me, not only in the directions or suggestions it gives, but in giving the feeling that one is somewhat on the right path.

This is altogether too long a letter, I know, but it is sometimes difficult just to answer yes or no. With best wishes to you and your great work, Sincerely…”

You are probably familiar with the book ‘Through the Eyes of the Masters’ by David Anrias, printed in 1932…he has clairvoyantly made some excellent portrait sketches…one of these is labeled: Master Jesus. Previous incarnation Joshua, son of Nun; also Jesus of Nazareth… Best wishes to you, Hugh Lynn and all the workers at headquarters. I think you are doing a fine job.” Sincerely Dr. [5118]
