This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - through daughter, Miss […] Active Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Jeanette Fitch, Stenos.]
Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, N.Y.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [5121].
-
While there are disturbances which are rather static in the present, there may be help. This individual entity, though, would learn more through the understanding of how and why this is, and how this is, a karmic condition.
-
True, the oils in the inner ear are gradually being eliminated; not that these cannot be replaced, but this cannot be until some general attitudes have been changed. There are the questions as to whether the body has or has not earned this right, for who is to judge save the entity itself? and that as the source of inspiration which causes the entity to desire, and to know for what purpose it might use, the recuperated activities which may be possible with the entity.
-
We would then, in the present use a short-wave treatment over the area of the mastoids, and do use this very lightly, but consistently, at least once each week until the entity has made its decision about its own self and its life experience in the earth. Do not use the short-wave or radio wave more than three amperes in strength.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What can I do about pyorrhea condition in my teeth? (A) Use Ipsab regularly each day and rinse mouth out when it is finished with Glyco-Thymoline. Massage gums inside and out by wetting a small tuft of cotton with the Ipsab or use the finger alone, and massage with the Ipsab. It will remove and correct the conditions, as well as the body being helped by the short-wave.
-
(Q) Should I wear eye glasses or will eye exercise be sufficient to cure my far-sightedness? (A) Wear eye glasses.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/20/44 Son-in-law’s letter: “I just want to tell you on behalf of my wife and myself how much we enjoyed seeing you during the last week in June. We did appreciate so much your warm hospitality, and my wife was a little astonished at first by the non-chalance and simplicity prevailing around your household. Of course, that’s exactly as it should be… Please tell Gladys Davis to send us only one copy of ‘This Week’s Readings’ at …, N.Y. We take great delight reading together these extracts… Please extend our warmest regards to Mrs. Cayce…”
R2. 8/22/44 Daughter’s letter: “As you know, I am here at …, N.Y., and will be here for my reading… Also I wanted you to know that my mother’s hearing is steadily improving. She hears things she never heard before, and in fact is startled at the amount of noise. Also, her gums are improving due to the steady use of Ipsab and Glyco-Thymoline which the reading advised…”
R3. 9/18/44 Son-in-law’s letter: ”…We are all praying that you will return from Florida in perfect health…”
R4. 12/18/44 Daughter’s letter: “We are so glad to hear that you are home again and feeling better. Please accept this donation as a Christmas gift to help with the work, in any way you see fit. Our best regards to Mrs. Cayce and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.”
R5. 1945 Due to EC’s death, Life Readings for daughter and son-in-law were cancelled.
R6. 3/14/50 Questionnaire sent. No reply.
R7. 6/10/52 Mrs. [5121]‘s daughter and son-in-law have maintained continuous interest in A.R.E. through Active Membership. In addition to several contributions, we have received periodically, letters of encouragement with helpful suggestions about the programs of A.R.E.
R8. 6/11/52 Questionnaire-letter sent to daughter.
R9. 6/18/52 Daughter’s reply: “As you can see from the above address we have moved. We bought a house here, and are very happy. About the questionnaire: I’m afraid I can’t be very useful. I have not seen Mrs. [5045] or her daughter since 1945… As for my mother, she does not live near me, and I can only tell you what I remember which is not too much. She took about 12 treatments for her hearing. The first 2 weeks, there seemed to be some improvement, and then no change. Her hearing has grown worse since then, and she got a hearing-aid about 2 years ago, but does not like it. She is convinced her condition is karmic, and that only she herself can work it out. It seems doubtful that it can be done in this life.
I had completely forgotten about the gum treatments, but do know that she has not mentioned it for some years. She was forced to get glasses some 5 years ago. She cannot read without them. Formerly she had perfect vision. I’m afraid this meager information will not be much help for your records. If you write to my mother, her address is …, N.J. P.S. I do not recall the doctor making any comment about the oils in the inner ear gradually being eliminated.”
R10. 7/11/52 Questionnaire-letter to Mrs. [5121]. No reply.
R11. 10/52 Comment by David H. Fogel, M.D. (Heart Specialist): “Partial deafness; pyorrhea.”
R12. 7/20/78 [5121]‘s maternal granddaughter visited A.R.E. and gave the following information for [5121]‘s file:
“[5121] died the summer of either 1954 or 1955. I was a very young child (four or five) at the time. She died a very painful death of cancer of the bone marrow. Two days before she died her husband committed suicide by locking himself in the garage and turning on the car. He could not bear the thought of her death.
“The reading: [First three paragraphs] Apparently, from what I’ve been told by my mother, the deafness was a closed ear to the thoughts, words, and ideas of others. It seems that [5121] had an intense spiritual pride to where she could not listen to other people. She had a very dominating character. She always refused to go to doctors, feeling that because she was a spiritual being that nothing could harm her ‘temple.’ Being so young at the time, I’m really not familiar with how she took the advice in this reading. Apparently, not too successfully.
“As far as relation goes past and present, I have always felt a strong karmic link between [5121], my mother […] and myself. There have been times when my mother and I are together where we’ve felt her very strongly. We are all intensely musical and have all pursued a study of the piano and voice. My mother is now a vocal teacher also, and I feel I will be as well. We have all three pursued these studies within our own time reference as well as studying Rosicrucian teachings. (I am now an inactive member after five years of study and am now more freely studying.) It seems there is a strong thread of similar substance running through all three of our lives in relation to ‘the work.’ I’ve felt for many years that I’ll meet her again during my life as she incarnates in another body, and that I’ll recognize her easily. Time will tell.
“It seems, from what I’ve understood over the years, that [5121] was a very wise person in many ways. I guess she missed an important point though along the way as far as the need for unselfish service in the world. Who is to say? Except by her own soul can she be guided and as Mr. Cayce says on page three, paragraph two [5121-1, Par. 4]: ‘Who is to judge save the entity itself?’”
Background
Background
B1. Born in N.J. 2/7/92.
B2. 1/12/44 Daughter’s letter: “I have just finished reading ‘There Is A River’ and was so deeply impressed and excited by it that I felt I must write you. For some years, my mother has been a member of the Rosicrucian Brotherhood, and has studied these esoteric principles of reincarnation very thoroughly. My husband and I joined the Brotherhood about 2 years ago, and I firmly believe in all the things you have revealed. My husband was always a little doubtful until he read ‘There Is A River’, and the events surrounding the manner in which he happened to read it are quite significant… I have a request of my own to make. My mother who is a voice teacher is quite deaf. You are probably surprised to hear that she teaches voice, but she can hear musical tones perfectly. In ordinary conversation, she has great difficulty in following what people are saying, and it is a source of continual embarrassment to her. I have written her about you, and she wants me to ask you to help her. Of course, she realizes this may be a karmic condition which she must suffer in this life, but if you could give her relief, we would be eternally grateful. Doctors have deemed her incurable. They say the lining of the inner ear is thickened and hardened and nothing can be done. One doctor said she would grow worse as she got older. Her name is Mrs. [5121]. I realize you have lists of people waiting for help, and you may not consider her affliction serious enough for you to bother with, but she has told me that it is a terrible burden to her, and she would give anything to be cured… Whatever you decide to do, I want you to know that I am a firm believer and staunch supporter of your wonderful work…”
B3. 1/24/44 Son-in-law’s letter: “Pressure of work and deep reflection have both interfered with my writing you to express to you appreciation of the time and patience you have given Mr. F. I. T. and me last January 16. We left feeling that you had done us a great service… Let me also thank you for finding a place for my mother-in-law’s reading… She has read ‘There Is A River’ and was profoundly impressed with your work and your gift.”
B4. 1/25/44 Daughter’s letter: “Enclosed please find my application for active membership and my check… Many thanks for the pamphlet on the work… My husband wrote me that he came away from his visit with you with the feeling that he had been in the presence of God. He was deeply moved by it, and I believe is writing you asking for a Life Reading also…”
B5. 1/28/44 Letter: “My daughter tells me that you have set the time for my Physical Reading for me… I shall keep the time in prayer and meditation. My son-in-law told me of his enjoyable visit to you. I am so glad that we all have found you. I have studied mysticism for the past 10 years, and am a high degree Rosicrucian. I was so interested to read ‘There Is A River’. You have been blessed with a wonderful gift. I was particularly impressed with how closely the philosophy revealed to you, agrees with Rosicrucian philosophy. Of course, the great truths of the universe are the same, world without end. I am a successful vocal teacher, and strange to say am able to hear the softest singing tone, despite the fact that I have been partially deaf since I was 15 years old. My greatest difficulty is in understanding the conversation of those who do not enunciate very well. Of course, there is a 50% loss of hearing, which is a great handicap in my profession. I should like to have the following questions asked during my reading: (1) Is my loss of hearing a karmic debt from which I can now be released? (2) What steps can I take to bring my hearing back to normal? (3) Can I do anything, mentally, to cure it?” [Additional questions submitted listed at end of Physical Reading.]
B6. 5/4/44 Letter: “I am so glad that you are better… I am grateful that you can give me the reading on 5/17/44. I shall be at …, N.Y., where I have my vocal studio. I shall keep the hour in meditation. I sent you a list of questions before, when I was to have had a reading on 3/10, but perhaps I had better repeat those questions. I have had a partial loss of hearing since I was about 15 years old; but in spite of that condition, I am a successful singing teacher. Needless to say, however, it is a great handicap to me. Here are my questions: (1) Is my deafness a karmic condition? (2) Have I now earned the right to be relieved of it? (3) What steps can I take toward curing it? (4) What can I do about a pyorrhea condition in my teeth? With regard to the last question (5) Should I wear eye glasses or will eye exercises be sufficient to cure my far-sightedness? With all best wishes for peace, peace profound.”
