This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Dr. Bilyea.

Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Mo.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [5151].

3. As we find, there are such disturbances that these are hard to cope with. These are conditions which are part of the karmic experience of the entity, and there needs to be all of those administrations which may be given indicating love, thought, care, patience, kindness, gentleness that may be indicated for the entity.

4. Physically the conditions are spastic in nature; that is, there is little or no involuntary activity which has not become voluntary. This, then, indicates the lack of the normal development in the structural portions, especially as related to any activities or locomotion in the body’s handling of self.

5. As to the administrations, with the care, patience that may be given, there may be brought help. This would require a great deal of care, yet this should not be given to someone else, other than those responsible for this body’s manifestation in the world of physical consciousness; else those so responsible will lose their lesson to be gained.

7. Begin the use of the low vibrations of the Wet Cell Appliance, but administered as the Radio-Active is ordinarily used. Both plates should be made of nickel, rather than one copper and one nickel. Both of the poles into the solution should be copper, rather than one nickel and one copper. And both of the small plates should be nickel. One to one portion or side, arm, ankle, the other on opposite side of body. These should be administered daily, followed with the massage of the body using Peanut Oil.

8. These do. These offer, in the material manifestation, the better opportunity for physical relief.

10. (Q) What other than karmic caused this condition? (A) As indicated, this is a prenatal condition and thus the sedentary character of experience during period of gestation.

11. (Q) How long will it take to effect a cure? (A) Not a cure is promised, unless there is the full trust in the sources of healing, of health, of life itself.

R1. 9/10/49 Questionnaire sent to mother. No reply.

R2. 10/10/49 Dr. Bilyea’s (D.O.’s) reply to questionnaire: ”…We followed the treatment prescribed by the Edgar Cayce Reading. He showed steady improvement; began speaking a few words, gained strength. Due to the fact that the father and mother were divorced, his father had a right to part-time possession of the child. He made periodic visits to the hospital to see his boy. The last time he came, he demanded his right to take the boy home with him. He immediately took him to a hospital in Kansas City where a doctor performed a sympathectomy operation, under which the boy died. We are sorry to have to make this final entry on a case history of a boy to whom we became very much attached. We are confident, that under continued treatment, he would have made a marked degree of recovery. His mother has re-married, and we are enclosing the address: Final diagnosis: spastic due to birth injury.”

R3. 3/13/52 IMG’s questionnaire-letter to Dr. Bilyea: ”…May I ask you some additional questions which I believe will be very helpful to those interested in research in A.R.E. records on the cause and treatment of spastics? Regarding the physical application outlined in the Reading: (1) How long was the Wet Cell Appliance used? (2) Was it used daily, at a fixed hour? (3) Was the child sufficiently quiet so that it was unnecessary to watch him while the Appliance was being used? (4) How long was the Appliance attached? (5) Did the mother in any way or at any time, help with the use of the appliance or care of the child? (6) Was she sympathetic in following the suggestions given in the reading? (7) Were any other treatments being administered, in addition to the Wet Cell Appliance; if so, please give a brief outline. (8) Was osteopathy a part of the treatment he was receiving. Please include any other items that you feel would be pertinent to research…”

R4. 3/24/52 Dr. Bilyea’s letter: “The applications of the Wet Cell Appliance was made daily over a period of 6 months. The time was approximately 3 P.M. under the supervision of our head nurse, who sat with the child with each treatment. The boy was allowed to go home and was under his mother’s care for about 3 months. During this time she applied the treatment according to our instructions. He was then returned to our hospital, due to the fact that his mother had to work, and he was here about month.

All this time the boy had a steady improvement. Also, during this time osteopathy was applied by gently relaxing and springing the entire spine, with special attention to the upper cervical where mobilization and cervical traction were affected.

He was removed from our institution by his father who was separated from his mother. He was taken to Kansas City on September 14, 1944. Three days later a sympathectomy was performed, at which time the child passed away.

The family relation stood this way: The mother was very fond of the child, having had all the care of him from the time he was born. She and the father were separated. While the father occasionally visited the child, we believe his mental attitude was very unsympathetic, and he seemed to delight in leaving the child crying every time he went away. He found out that the child liked to ride in the car, so each time before he left he would ask him if he would like to go with him in the car, and when he got real excited about it, he would laugh and go off and leave him.”

B3. 12/15/43 Dr. Bilyea’s letter: “I have just completed the book called ‘There Is A River’ by Thomas Sugrue. I enjoyed it very much. I understand that we have a distant cousin of yours, a former Miss Cayce, who married a gentleman by the name of Nanse [Thomas Nanse, Louisiana, Mo.] living in our town. We are interested in knowing what you can do for us, and what the procedure would be to get your help. We run a small osteopathic hospital here in the middle west, and get a lot of problem cases. I have at present a little boy, who has been left in my care for a year, and we don’t seem to be able to get any response to treatments. Please let me know what your rules and regulations, financial remunerations, etc., are.”

B4. 2/4/44 Dr. Bilyea’s letter: “We are sending you 2 membership blanks: One for ourselves and one for the mother of a little patient of ours whom we mentioned in a previous letter to you. We have been treating this boy for some time, and while we made some improvement at the beginning, we at the present time are up against a stone wall. It is necessary that we get assistance from beyond if we are to save this boy’s life. The mother has been working in a factory to keep her boy in our hospital. We are treating him for bare expenses, and I have enough faith in your work to pay for the boy’s reading, and will follow out your instructions to the best of my ability. If it is at all possible to get an emergency reading on this boy, it will be appreciated not only by ourselves, but the boy’s parents also…”
