This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [5154], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born November 7, 1901, in Barney, Iowa. Time of Reading Set. bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Ky.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane; giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now called [5154].

3. In giving the records and the interpretation of same, we will find much that may be applied in a constructive, helpful way.

4. There are some warnings as well as some virtues to be interpreted for the entity.

5. Through that which has been applied in other sojourns and then dwelt upon during the interims between material or earthly appearances, there are definite urges.

6. These are indicated in the restlessness of the entity and the ability as well as desire to seek out new associations, new environs. They are well at times, but know that there must be some definite choices made, and then the application of self. Rolling stones gather little moss.

7. The entity is inclined to be rather extravagant with its finances, with itself, and with its promises. These all are well, provided there is kept an equal balance.

8. First we would give for the entity to study and to analyze itself in the light of that which is ideal, or that which is the ideal of the entity. Study to know the ideal spiritually, mentally and materially; not ideas, but the ideal. The judgment of an ideal is according to that by which ye may live, preach and die. Know, then, that the ideal is able to keep whatever may be committed unto it, in whatever might be the experience of the entity.

9. The interest of the entity in things occult may cause the entity at times to be misled - unless that ideal is first set in its judgments of what is spiritual and of the creative nature, and what is questioned of the ideas and their natures.

10. Astrologically we find Saturn, Mercury, Mars and Jupiter all portions of the entity’s awareness.

11. We find in Saturn the changes, and order. The entity is orderly in its person and in its relationships.

12. In Mars with Mercury, we find an active mind. Things having to do with activities in the assurance, or insurance field of service, would be an outlet best adapted for the entity; provided judgments as to these are taken in relation to a cooperative manner of activity; that the basis may be one activity brought about by the coordination of spiritual, mental and psychic forces.

13. These as we find, then, would be channels through which the mental, spiritual and material developments would come best for the entity.

14. The entity’s associates and activities should definitely have to do with groups for the brotherhood of man; fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man. But in the assurance, or insurance, as of a cooperative nature, will be channels for the outlet for the abilities and activities of the entity.

15. As to the appearances of the entity in the earth, we find:

Before this (while all of the incarnations may not be given, these will indicate the pattern from which the astrological as well as material sojourns give a definite urge in the present), the entity was among those groups who journeyed to the western land when there were the attempts and activities in the discovery of gold.

17. Then in the name Carl Olson, the entity journeyed to the west coast; eventually undertook activities to insure individuals of the better agreements among those peoples, as to how and where the discoveries were to be worked together.

18. Hence the entity is very good in contracts, agreements; yet tending to question within its own self as to whether or not these are in accord. As indicated, stress agreements between individuals, organizations, states or nations, wherein they would have ever a cooperative basis of activity.

19. Before that the entity was in the Roman land when there were those especial activities in empire building, and especially activities in what is now Egypt.

20. The entity then was among those put in charge of making estimates of the abilities of groups or places, cities or countries, to contribute to the general welfare of the nation or empire.

21. Thus the study of peoples, the study of the natures of lands, organized efforts with the producers from soil, those who are active in the judgments between activities of the fellow men. All of these were, and indeed are, parts of the entity’s experience.

22. As indicated, then, cooperation is the basis of that through which the entity would find outlets, better activities in its experience, in applying itself for material, mental or spiritual unfoldment.

23. The name then was Rascarn.

24. Before that the entity was in the “city of the hills and the plains”, being among the natives or of the same family as the teacher or leader Uhjltd, but of the younger of the groups. Hence the entity’s activities were only exercised during those periods of building up the “city in the hills and the plains”, when this had become, as it were, a center for the people who passed to and fro making the trade route between various lands.

25. The entity was among those set in charge of the entertainment, or to make the people feel “at home”, or to protect the city from those who were in the various caravans who were not of the same mind as the peoples in the “city in the hills”.

26. Hence the entity was what today would be termed the sheriff or policeman of that place at that time; thus in another direction seeking the cooperative measures between various types of people, various groups and various activities.

27. Thus in the present, we find the entity a very good mixer with peoples.

28. The name then was Hassar.

29. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land when there were the activities of those from Atlantis.

30. The entity was among the Egyptians who sided with or who prompted the Atlanteans for their own representatives in the activities, when those turmoils were active just before the return of the Priest.

31. The entity was not so well considered by some of its own peoples, but rather as one who was - it might be said - persuaded, because of fascination for certain tenets; and the interest then in the reports from the Atlanteans had much to do with the entity in its choice of activities through the experience.

32. Thus the warning respecting the interest in occult and the application of the psychic. There’s quite a variation.

33. As to the abilities of the entity, that to which it may attain, and how:

34. First, as indicated, analyze and study self. Do find thy ideal, physically, mentally, spiritually.

35. Then study to show thyself approved unto that ideal, condemning none; and most of all don’t condemn self.

36. As to the physical activities, these should have to do with the insurance or assurance of the nature that is cooperative; dealing with farms, with stock, and such. These having to do with such undertakings should be the especial associates of the entity.

37. In thy study of the mystic, the occult, the psychic, let it be from the basis of the ideal and not from hearsay - rather from thine own experience.

38. Ready for questions.

39. (Q) What can I do to help bring about the New Age? (A) As just indicated, you will have to practice it in your own life. These are the manners and channels through which this might be better expressed by this particular entity.

40. (Q) What is the reason for the terrific struggle between the spiritual and the physical, wherein so often the physical appetites win and leave me with such a sense of loss and frustration? (A) This comes from the periods of indecision as we have indicated, and the lack of knowing the ideal in self.

41. (Q) What lives have the main bearing on this condition? (A) Those that have been indicated here for the entity. The one before this, and the one in Egypt, as well as in North Africa or Alexandria when the entity was from Rome.

42. (Q) What was the year of the incarnation just previous to this one? (A) The entity was 23 years old when he went to search for gold, in 1849.

43. (Q) May I be told specifically my failings and what I may do to correct them? (A) You have certainly been told! You may correct them by meeting thyself, and being in that attitude of the fruits of the spirit: patience, longsuffering, brotherly love, kindness, gentleness. These are the ways and the manners to change from the recklessness, the tendency to change from place to place, as well as the activities and the environs, and to bring about harmony in the experience.

R1. 7/8/44 Letter: ”…To say the least, my week with you folks was certainly the most interesting and beneficial experience of my life… I wish that I too, could have stayed another week and have had time to see a little into those things which seem to have such an interest for me. I know that I am not qualified or perhaps worthy, but I am sure I would like to have the opportunity of putting what I know about Atlantis and the antediluvian world with the information in the A.R.E. archives, and writing that book on the world of Atlantis, which for some reason or other, I feel I could write… I seem to be able to accept everything which comes through the readings as truth - there is not even a little doubt in my mind. This is really unusual, for I possess an occult type mind which of real necessity must always ‘take everything apart’ before I believe it…”

R2. 1/27/45 Letter: ”…Don’t know whether I ever mentioned it or not, but we have some contact with one of the brothers on the ‘other side’ who has elected to remain in the etheric plane as helper to those who are passing over…”

R3. 2/3/45 Letter: ”…As my friend ‘Charles’ said: ‘Edgar Cayce was called, for the service he must render at this time is greater over here, than you may realize’…”

R4. Mr. [5154] attended the Annual Congress of A.R.E. in 1944 and 1945; he was also a Trustee for 5 years.

R5. 10/9/46 Letter from [2998]: ”…[5154]‘s new job folded up on him and he is pretty blue. He quit a disagreeable, dull, good paying job to take on the new connection and strikes, O.P.A. and other evils have forced his company out of business…”

R6. 12/25/46 Letter: ”…I am enclosing a five-spot, which is to be directed as would be needed. It isn’t much, but I darn near sweat blood to get it to you. I must be going through a test of some kind, for I sure can’t make any money for some reason or other. And for this very reason, I shall write you a little letter stating that I shouldn’t be on the Board, for reason of the little financial support I have been giving, and so far, it looks will be able to give for some time. And to even make it worse, there is so little I can do in service or labor; also, I don’t want to be just a name. You will understand, I know. You all have my love and prayers, you know that. The Association is my first and only love.”

R7. 3/9/47 Letter: ”…Life is a fine and wonderful thing. It sure has led me a merry goose chase these past two years. Rather expect it is my dear old karma catching up with me - nothing drastic or harmful, and yet it has kept me from doing the things that I wanted to do…”

R8. 6/18/47 Letter to HLC: “I hope that you will forgive me for my seeming lack of attention I have paid to you and the Association for the past few months. It has not been because I have not wanted to… The same applies to my neglect of what I feel are my financial obligations. I have wanted to do so much, but have been able to do nothing… The ‘powers that be’ have kicked me around considerably these past 10 months, and a good deal of the time I have been without steady remuneration. Ever since my change to the job which looked to be the ‘job of a lifetime’, and which lasted only a few months and incidentally, this seemed to have happened only to get me to California. I have been jumped from one job to another, and each time through no fault of my own, or the company I was representing. I have made a connection now, which looks very promising; however, I am saying nothing, you will understand. I hope sometime soon to be able to go over this past year’s experiences with you - with my reading at hand, perhaps you could give me some light on it. I have discussed it thoroughly with [2998], and he has been at hand to see everything happen, but it seems hard to make head or tail out of it all. Please do not understand that I am griping. I am not, as I have absolute faith in the justness of God and His universe. There are no accidents in His well-planned scheme of things, as I see it. All that I have regretted has been that it has caused me to cease for the time being, my participation in that which I love so much, the ARE and its affairs. You can perhaps see a little now, why I have hesitated to write or to participate in the affairs of the A.R.E. I couldn’t when I was unable to contribute a little even, towards the obligations I feel to all of you…”

B2. 7/10/43 Letter: “I have just finished the story of your life in ‘There Is A River’, and I am impelled to say it is one of the most vivid experiences of my life. Not just because I live in Kentucky, knew young Mr. Potter of the bookstore and some of the other characters in your story… It is because it is so real, so good and so true. My experiences of a lifetime have not exactly paralleled yours, but in the main have been very similar. Out of it, too, I have evolved a philosophy that if it were written up, as is yours, would be nearly word for word a parallel ‘sure enuf’… I would like to know if a Life Reading is available and as complete as possible. I ask this not through curiosity, but that it may help me to live more completely this life in the true spirit. It is my wish and my attempt to be of service, and to live in and on the path so much as this weak flesh will allow. May I have this reading?… If I knew when you would be able to give me this reading, I would be sure and spend the time in meditation and prayer. If possible, I would like to know my previous lives on this planet, especially those lives lived in Atlantis and Egypt, and the two or more lives as lived on this continent. B3. 7/17/43 Letter: ”…Yes, my life too, has been a ‘queer’ one, subject to much criticism and some persecution, because of ‘memories’ which my study with the Essene School had already convinced me were the memories of the eternal soul. Were it only possible that all men would but realize that there are no yesterdays or tomorrows; all is Eternal Now, then experiences such as yours would be better understood, for all would know that yours is but the voice of the Universal Mind, and memories are but part of the eternal memory. I have had the wonderful experience of hearing this voice of Eternal Nature and have seen many scenes from the Universal Screen. I have seen the building of the Great Pyramid, for I was there in the person of a much despised laborer. I have been in the great amphitheatre on Atlantis, and listened to the voice of the Master Builder, and it seems to me that I must have heard the last breath of the Eternal Brother Jesus for has words, the last on the cross, were in pure Atlantean,’ lix-he-mil’, it is done…”

B4. 9/25/43 Letter: ”…Of course, with me, your presence in this world seems a natural thing, for your philosophy is just what I have been trying to put together all my life. It is Truth in every respect, and I am now trying to hammer or rather penetrate the armor of certain metaphysical friends of mine, the facts of the subconscious mind and its relationship to the Universal Mind. And one of the greatest truths of which the world should know, is that of reincarnation and its relationship with the law of karma. Seems to me, that a knowledge of this Truth is about the only way in which Divine Law can be interpreted…”

B6. 2/27/44 Questions submitted previous to reading in addition to those at end of 5154-1: ”…I would like to have the following questions asked, for one or two are very vital to me: (1) I do not feel that I am in a line of work where I can best express myself, and am dissatisfied, etc. What kind of work or vocation can I adopt that will be better for me?… I am so grateful for this opportunity…”
