This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the daughter, Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in Coronet.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, [5156].

3. As we find, there are disturbing conditions. These have to do with a complication of disturbances. There has been for some time a disorder in the alimentary canal. This, as we find, comes from an old disturbance in a colon disorder, or colitis. This has gradually aggravated the lymph circulation throughout the alimentary canal so that with heavy foods, or those particularly of foods with fats and starches of an excess amount, we have a great deal of disorder. Certain vegetables or raw foods at times give a disturbance also.

4. These, as we find, as combined with pressures which exist in the cerebro-spinal nervous system, that prevent the better coordination between sympathetic and cerebro-spinal, especially as related to the sensory system, the organs of sensory system, especially the auditory force, give some distress.

5. These, while they should be considered very good for the age and the activities of the body, we would find, however, that we may add comfort from these disturbances by the use, when there are those disorders through the alimentary canal, of Glyco-Thymoline Packs; two or three thicknesses of heavy cotton cloth saturated with Glyco-Thymoline placed over the areas. This should be cold, not heated, but kept on until it has nearly dried from evaporation, or absorption and evaporation from the body.

6. We would take internally also, a few drops (3 drops) of Glyco-Thymoline in a glass of water. When water is taken, let most of it contain a few drops of Glyco-Thymoline. It will keep down this tendency for the production of acidity through the alimentary canal.

7. After each meal, and especially the heavier meal of the day, take 1/2 teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth with five to six drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin, stirred together in a half glass of water. After the meals, this will produce better digestion and will make for the ability of the system to absorb.

8. It may become necessary a few days after this is taken for there to be a colon irrigation. For the Bismuth will absorb poisons, and these will tend to make for the lack of flushing, or of eliminations; though, these will be aided by the Packs that may be taken during the periods.

9. An adjustment osteopathically from the 6th dorsal to the 1st cervical occasionally will relieve tensions, though will not bring back the hearing; it will relieve tensions as in relation to this, as it will also contribute to bettered conditions through alimentary canal.

12. (Q) What can be done so that I can eat solid food? (A) Don’t try to eat too much solid foods. But do the things that have been indicated, and we will be able to take more of semi-solid foods.

13. (Q) Please suggest foods to stress and foods to avoid in the diet? (A) As has just been indicated, do NOT stress too much starches and too much of fats.

R1. 6/6/44 Daughter’s letter: “Your reading and advice came too late. My father passed away after weeks of intense pain and suffering, the 1st day of June. He literally starved to death.”

R2. 6/17/44 Daughter’s letter: “I do not know just what you meant in your letter by this statement: ‘…but I would like to do whatever you feel is just and right.’ I suppose you refer to the financial side, and I do appreciate your letter… It seemed wrong for me to put one off so long when he was in such desperate need of help, although of course I realize, there were hundreds wanting an immediate reading, as I did. But if it is necessary to put one off so long, I think you should not charge any fee until the reading has been given, for it must happen often that a patient dies before a reading is given. If I had thought it possible, I would have cancelled this reading, for we realize that my father was being beyond help. The doctor said that he literally starved to death, because we could find nothing that he could eat.”

R3. 7/17/44 Daughter’s letter: “Your letter of the 8th at hand. You are so very fair and considerate, it makes me feel kindly toward you… My mother felt that we should be reimbursed for the membership fee, but I feel that a refund of half would be satisfactory, if that seems fair to you…”

R4. 8/16/44 EC’s letter: ”…At your request, we are returning $20. for cancelled membership fee. We are sorry not to have been the means of real service.”

R5. 8/25/44 Daughter’s letter: “Thank you for your letter and check enclosed. We appreciate your fairness and we shall not forget your kindness in the whole matter.”

B1. 11/8/43 Daughter’s letter: “I read recently in the ‘Coronet’ of your wonderful powers. Can you help my aged father who suffers agonies with an infected bunion caused by deformity from arthritis?

B2. 12/23/43 Daughter’s letter: “I am applying for membership in your Association that I may have your help and advice for my father, who is 86 years old. He has suffered from arthritis for about 15 years, but his worst trouble right now is his stomach, which has also troubled him for a great many years. Now it seems to have given out completely. If he could eat and be comfortable, rather than to be nauseated and in pain, we should feel we might get him up again. But he seems to grow weaker and is very sick. He has been having a bad time with a painful bunion caused from the arthritis, but that seems to be somewhat better now, though we should like your advice on this also. I notice that for emergencies, you will give a physical reading preference. I hope you can give this reading soon, as my father is very sick.”

B3. 2/44 Questions submitted in addition to those at the end of 5156-1: “Since no operation is deemed necessary, and sedatives only make the trouble worse, what can be done to alleviate the continual pain in my stomach?”
