This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 31st day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [5159], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Jeanette Fitch, Stenos.]
Time of Reading Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Calif.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them.
-
EC: Not in such a good fix this morning!
-
As we find, here the accumulations through the colon cause much more of the pressure, that produces the high blood pressure, than organic heart trouble. That this has caused somewhat of an engorgement is more by the administrations made than the condition itself would naturally warrent.
-
But as we find, if there would be gently, and not too much at once, but a systematic evacuation of the colon and reducing those pressures in the colon, where there is this plethora, and with the osteopathic administrations, we may reduce this blood pressure without being at the expense of some of the organs of the body.
-
The torpidity of the liver, the activity of the kidneys, can be better controlled by the osteopathic adjustments also.
-
These, as we find, would necessarily need to be done before there were changes made in the environment or the attempts to make more than a few hundred feet by variation in the atmospheric pressure. But if these were nearer to the normal altitude for individuals, say of 1200 to 1400 feet, it would be better; when the body is able to be changed, by having sufficient of the colonics until there is no more mucous indicated in the stool (not try to do this all at once but let there be sufficient rest periods to gain strength).
-
These, along with the other administrations, should bring much improvement for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should I discontinue present treatments? (A) They couldn’t very well be administered with those which have been indicated without being detrimental, for you can’t ride two horses at a time and do a good job well with either.
-
(Q) Any special osteopath to give treatments? (A) One who knows his business and how to work with colonic irrigations. You have a good one in Sarcamento.
Do that.
- We are through with this reading.
Two copies to Self (one for the osteopath and hydrotherapist - Please let us have the name and address of the one you choose.) Copy to Ass’n file ” for indexing

R1. 6/24/44 Letter: “I have received my first 2 Readings. They are of penetrating insight and will be followed as suggested. They do not provide a magic formula. The inquirer is expected to make personal decisions and take more responsibility. I shall send you the address of the osteopath employed. The one contacted so far is inadequate.”
R2. 5/21/46 Membership renewed; changed from Active to Associate Membership.
R3. 2/29/52 Questionnaire-letter sent. Whereabouts unknown.

B1. 7/25/43 Letter: “May I kindly ask you to give me a reading on my personality-health, mental and emotional capacities, and whatever else you may see fit… This is a sincere request of a man who at 53 has to make a change of vocation and locality. Whatever your information may be, I alone will be responsible for my decisions.”
B2. 11/2/43 Letter: “The applicant was always deeply and affirmatively interested in psychic phenomena. Heard of Mr. Cayce for the first time last summer through a review of ‘There Is A River’ in the New York Tribune’s Books, and another review in the Christian Century… The applicant awaits information as to the date of the reading. Mail to his present address will always reach him; he has to move, suffering, according to a physician, from incurable arteriosclerosis, and needing a change of occupation.”
B3. 5/15/44 Letter: ”…You are free to take my questions only as a guide, and formulate them to suit the purpose. I do not know how to put questions for a reading. Should I be more explicit in my questions on Life Reading, I should like first to order and read your booklet on Life Readings… Good or ill, any advice will be welcome… God’s cosmic voice seems to have come to the surface of consciousness in Mr. Cayce. May God bless him. (1) What is the cause of my high blood pressure? (2) What, if any, relief or cure is there for my high blood pressure as a symptom and for the disease that causes it? (3) Would a higher altitude from the present 50 ft. above sea level worsen my high blood pressure? (4) A physician prescribed potassium thiocyanate tablets which another physician thinks harmful, and substituted them for others I cannot name - any advice? (5) What food and what manner of living would be most helpful for my high blood pressure? (6) If my high blood pressure is caused by a diseased kidney or stomach, or arteriosclerosis - any advice about an operation? (7) Is my heart damaged from decaying arteries or from what? (8) What is the cause and remedy, if any, of an irregular, hammering, violent pulse and flushed face often right after eating, often at night? (9) Is my heart enlarged and consequently crowded by other organs? (10) What relief, if any, is there for gas pressure distending my stomach with or without food, day and night, mostly after eating and nights? (11) Having abstained from eating blooded meat ever since 1921, but eating unblooded fish since about 1931 and any vegetable, fruit, milk and its products and eggs - is this an adequate diet and wholesome for my condition, or should I start eating blooded meat like beef, pork, chicken, etc.? Or what food would be most digestible for me, not cause so much acidity, gas pressure, fast pulse, etc.? (12) Since my stomach (after an operation for duodenal ulcer in December 1920…) frequently does not properly digest, and there is also a lack of peristaltic movements, would a change from my mostly sedentary life to a life mostly outdoors in an equable climate of moderate physical activity like farming or gardening be more conducive to my health? (13) Would my lungs (healed from t.b. in the rarified air of the Rocky Mountains (1920-1927) do better at the altitude of at least a hill country of a few thousand feet above sea level? (14) Is my kidney decaying, and if so, which one (a physician who thinks so, suggests no treatment)? (15) Any advice on the loss of albumen, sugar, ‘castings’, from kidneys? (16) What cause and treatment if any, of headaches intensified to pressure or congestion of dexter brain? (17) What are the many-year old lumps under my skin of both upper arms (giving no trouble, just forget about them?) (18) What, if anything, could be done to keep or at least benefit my thinning hair? (19) Is the occasional slight pain in the tendon and joint of the large left toe an incipient ailment? What, if anything, to do? (20) Any advice as to my skin eruptions, slight but painful? (21) Anything else?”
B4. Mr. [5159] had a Physical Reading in the morning of 5/31/44, and a Life Reading in the afternoon of the same day. Due to EC’s illness, his appointment for a Mental and Spiritual Reading was cancelled. He maintained an interest in A.R.E., renewing his membership annually until 1948. Second-class test mailing 12/48. Whereabouts unknown.
