This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the father, Mr. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in Coronet.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [5179].

3. Much might be given as to the sources or causes of the conditions which exist physically with this body, but animosities, hates, prejudices, disturbance between individuals who have had and do have the control of the body have brought about much which has prevented, or may in the present prevent, betterment of conditions.

4. It is not, though, wholly necessary that this body should remain immobile or unable to use the locomotory centers. It will require, to be sure, time, patience, persistence, faith, hope, love; all of these must be made manifest by those making administrations. Not that it is not manifested in the body itself; for, some neglect has caused or allowed the creation of those conditions in the body which have brought that type of fever or of a form of strep which has been more recently existent in the body. Yet, patiently the body tries, attempts to meet those conditions. Lack of sympathy. All of these are needed most for this body. Hope, patience, persistence, in love.

5. If there will be the manifestations of these, then add through mechanical means the low Wet Cell Appliance which would carry Gold with charged Atomidine or Iodine in solution. We would, with the use of this for some three years, bring the body so it would be able to control the locomotories of the body, especially the lower limbs, though they are deformed in the present.

6. If these will be prepared, prepared in this manner: Use the regular solution for the Wet Cell Appliance, the gallon and a half in a two gallon crock, using rain water or distilled water with the solutions. The poles in these are to be nickel and copper. Prepare with the regular charge, both the Copper Sulphate and the Zinc and acids to suspend in the solution. Suspend in same at least three ounces of Tincture of Iodine. Put this on low electric charge for at least thirty minutes, just as if charging a battery.

7. Then make those connections which would be applied: The larger nickel plate would be attached to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus, which on this body would be three fingers from the navel center to the right and three fingers up from that point. The small copper plate, attach to the 4th lumbar or at the 4th lumbar and the basic axis. This is to be given each day for thirty minutes.

8. The solution of Chloride of Gold Sodium is to be used in the proportions of one grain to one ounce of distilled water, using three ounces.

9. Use this regularly, of course, but have periods of rest. Recharge the Appliance every thirty days, and also change the Gold Solution. Charge Appliance the same with Tincture of Iodine in same. With the use of these in application, and then a gentle massage given daily with Cocoa Butter part of the time, and at other times using Olive Oil and Peanut Oil through the areas from the 9th dorsal downward, we would bring the abilities of the body to be free from being an invalid and one who may take care of its own activities.

10. Do, through the periods of the massage, use this time for meditation and hope of the entity as to what it will do with its abilities when there are the abilities for the entity to carry about itself, to carry on in its desires, and we will bring not only joy for this body, but influences which may be brought by the activity of this entity not only in its work but in the very joy of living in others.

11. For there are abilities in the body for art, the higher arts, music and art itself. These would bring the greater abilities in the love, the patience, the persistence for this body and springing out, as it were, of the very soul of the entity in activities.

R1. 9/16/44 Father’s letter: ”…I wrote you that I would like a Physical Reading. I will be at … St., Ancon, C.Z… Your reading for my daughter 5/24/44. I sent the remittance to Mr. Godfrey, and in my daughter’s last letter, she said he had written her and they were trying to get the necessary things together to start the treatments. I will keep you informed as to progress…”

R2. 10/13/44 Father’s appointment for a Physical Reading cancelled due to EC’s illness.

R3. 12/15/49 Father’s reply to questionnaire: “Owing to the religion of my daughter’s mother, which she also follows, I was never able to get them to use the reading, though I secured all the things prescribed. The reason given for not following the reading was that the priest forbid same.”

R4. 11/19/49 Comment by E.C.F. solicitor: “Please take this name [5179] off the list. Does not wish any contact with the organization.”

R5. 4/10/52 Comment by IMG: “Miss R. I. C., the E.C.F. solicitor, did not indicate whether the request to have [5179]‘s name removed from the list came from the mother or daughter. At the time of the father’s letter of 12/15/49, he was in the Canal Zone. In view of his request for the reading and his attitude throughout his correspondence, he could not have asked to have his daughter’s name removed from the A.R.E. list.”

B1. Born 11/23/23 in New York; residence in N.Y.; single; divorced parents.

B2. 10/23/43 Father’s letter from overseas: ”…I have a daughter who has been a cripple since birth. I have just received a letter written for the child by her mother, dated 10/19, but postmarked 10/10/43 [copied from father’s typed letter; apparently inaccuracy in dates] which I am enclosing [not in E.C.F. records]. The child will be 20 years old in November. According to the diagnosis of specialists, her trouble is caused by having the central nerve injured at birth (breech). She has had a teacher come to her home, and has learned to use a typewriter fairly well, and has written a few short stories. The child has never taken a step, and has poor use of her arms and hands, but has shown great stamina in conquering her disability against all odds, her speech is difficult to understand. Perhaps this will be too late, and she may have already gone to our Maker. When I last heard from her, she was at …, N.Y. If you are able to do anything in the child’s behalf and will let me know what the fee amounts to, I will start paying each month what I can spare payroll deductions and expenses incurred for the child. If you are able to aid the child, please advise her aunt…, N.J., as I am divorced and the mother is a devout Catholic; in 1934 she refused to let the child go to a Shrine Hospital which might have aided her…”

B3. 11/30/43 Letter to father from [5179]: “After giving the machine [typewriter] a good rest, thinking it had outlived its usefulness, I took it out today, and found to my surprise that it still works. I know you must be very worried about not hearing from me in so long. I am sorry if I have caused you any distress. I have steadily improved until now I can honestly say that I never felt better in all my life. I realize that the letters Mom wrote for me did not satisfy you, but at the time nothing else could be done. Both my brother and I were disappointed not hearing from you for our birthdays. I guess you just forgot, eh, dad? Well, I guess that’s all I have to say, except please write soon.”

B4. 12/8/43 Father’s comments re [5179]‘s letter of 11/30/43: “…while her speech is difficult to understand, she is really exceptionally intelligent and bright. During her relapse which happened about the time I saw your name in ‘Coronet’, she was out of her mind, so this letter gives me great hope, and I feel sure she will answer your letter when you write her for whatever you desire in the way of cooperation… I would greatly appreciate it if you write her, but suggest that you also send a copy of the letter to my sister… I have received a letter from Mrs. H. A. H, and she is awaiting any word from you to cooperate, as far as possible with my daughter. The child’s mother works, and at present I do not know just what home arrangements are made for the child. She was to have gone to a hospital, but as she must have constant care and there were no nurses available to give her the necessary attention, as she cannot feed herself or take care of herself in any way…”

B5. 1/20/44 First enclosed excerpt from [5179]‘s letters to her father: “Aunt I. R. E. showed me the letter from Mr. Caise [Cayce], telling me that he could not give me a reading until May. As I don’t have faith in Mr. Caise and as the Church forbids any doings with spiritualism, I do not intend to cooperate with him. I appreciate your efforts because I know you have nothing but my best interests at heart. We just have to continue to trust God and consult legitimate doctors instead of spiritualists who, most probably, are in league with the devil.”

B6. 2/11/44 [5179]‘s second letter to her father: “Aunt I. R. E. has showed me the last letter which you wrote concerning Mr. Caise and the reading he promised May 24. I must say, dad, that on reading the letter I was rather angered. In it you did not compliment mother or me. In fact, I might go as far as to say that you insulted us. It is quite evident that you are sold on Mr. Caise and his unexplainable powers. I read the article from ‘Coronet’ which you sent Aunt, and I must admit it made for fascinating reading. There is one point however, that I do not understand; in the article, it said that Mr. Caise has refused many offers to become wealthy feeling that he should use his gifts to the benefit of others without thought of recompense. Yet you had to join his society (whose fee is ten dollars a year) before he gave you a look-in. How do you explain that? I am very hurt by what you said about mother’s standing in my way. She has never done so; in fact she has done everything to help me and considering she did it alone as well as caring for J. A. Y., I think she has done a wonderful job. Mother has taught me to think clearly, and I think I have learned well. As I told you in my last letter I do not intend to cooperate with Mr. Caise in any way and why. The Church absolutely forbids us to have anything to do with spiritualism or anything like it. That is reason enough for me. So please don’t go around saying mother is standing in my way.”

B7. 3/9/44 [5179]‘s third letter to her father: “There’s not much to write. I got the book about Mr. Cayce which I have read and found very interesting. I am still undecided as to his legitimacy, but I intend to consult my confessor next week.”

B8. 5/3/44 Father’s letter: ”…I am also enclosing extracts from 3 letters I received from my daughter [5179], and delayed sending this until I had received her last letter; the poor child has been sick with a light touch of scarlet fever, but she said she felt better than ever, neglecting to mention whether she had consulted her confessor or not. I answered her letter and asked her to please cooperate with you at the time set for her reading, and trust that she will do so. You can see by the letters she writes me that she completely influenced by her mother and an older aunt that lives with them, so does not have much chance for free thinking for herself. If you are unable to accomplish anything in her behalf, it will be no fault of yours, for you have done your part…”
