Divine Science (Emmet Fox)) This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [5186], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by a relative and the book, THERE IS A RIVER.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis and J. Fitch, Stenos.]
Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Va.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, as we find, while these conditions are rather serious, there need not be operative measures, provided measures are taken to cause activities not to be too severe, but do dissolve, - or eliminate sources of the disturbance.
-
That there has formed crystallization or stones does not indicate the condition is too hard to remove or dissipate. This is in the gall duct area, but should there come too great an activity of the body, so that inflammation arises, then it would require operative measures. Don’t take the temperature to merely convince yourself you have or haven’t a temperature, but do of evening or morning, or both, take the temperature. Needn’t talk about it, just write it down and see the variations, but begin with this, and don’t be too active until there are those changes brought about. If there are no changes brought about, operate; but this is too serious to operate without other measures being attempted first, and if the body will make up its mind, here is the way it can get rid of this without operation. It is kind of messy, but not nearly so messy as being operated upon, or as the after effects which will be in the body from operation:
-
Have at least three to four thicknesses of old flannel saturated thoroughly with Castor Oil, then apply electric heating pad. Let this get just about as warm as the body can well stand, cover with oilcloth to prevent soiling of linen. Keep this on every afternoon or evening for an hour. Then sponge off with soda water. Do this for at least seven days without breaking. One hour each day, same hour each day.
After and during these periods, take small doses of Olive Oil, two, three times each day. These should not be so severe as to cause strain, but be careful after about the third or fourth day to observe the stool, and there should be indications of the gall ducts being emptied, and should be gravel, and there should be some stones. This can be eliminated. If there are none indicated, rest one day, then repeat for another seven days, and we will find changes come about, unless there is undue exercise.
-
The diet through the periods should be liquid and semi-liquid, such as liver, beef-juice, blanc mange, raw vegetables, tomato-juice, and such nature are well for the body. Fruit, but not raw apples. Cooked apples, raisins, stewed apricots, stewed peaches, such as these, not in too big quantities, but these should correct conditions. After, or if there are indications, then have, after a rest period of a week, adjustments made osteopathically, with draining of the gall-duct. Do NOT have such treatments until after the Oil Packs. This would be dangerous, but we should find real results.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should Packs extend clear across abdomen or just what area? (A) Over the gall duct area, and extend to the caecum down the right side, and across the abdomen.
-
We are through with this reading.
Two copies to Self (one for Dr. Geo N. Coulter, 18 E. 41st St., N.Y.C., when you are ready to have the gall duct drained osteopathically, following the use of the Packs - If near Washington, D.C., we would refer you to: Dr. Lulu Irene Waters, 1707 Columbia Rd.) Copy to Ass’n file ” for indexing
(See directions [which were enclosed] for preparing Castor Oil Packs.)

R2. 2/14/52 Reply to Questionnaire-letter: “I am sorry that I did not write you at once in reply to your request of some time ago, to give you the information about Mr. Cayce’s reading in 1944, for the trouble I was having with my gallbladder. At the time of the Physical Reading, I was working for the Government in Washington. I did not feel that I could undertake the treatment he suggested, and after working a few months longer, I had to return to my home here in Alabama, thinking I would get better and return to work. But I did not improve, and finally had to have the operation for the removal of my gall-bladder. I wish that I could have followed the instructions in Mr. Cayce’s reading, but I suppose it was too unorthodox for me to decide on, when my doctor and family thought the operation so necessary… I regret so much that I did not let Mr. Cayce give me a Life Reading, as that had been my original request when I wrote to him. Then, when this physical trouble came, I wrote and asked that the reading be for that. How sorry I am that I did change, for I had been interested for a great many years in all metaphysical subjects… I was so happy to hear Mr. Cayce speak at Steinway Hall when I was living in New York, and to speak to him after the lecture.”

B1. 11/9/43 Letter: “Tonight I had the great pleasure and privilege of hearing you speak at Steinway Hall. It was so kind of you to repeat your talk for those of us who couldn’t crowd into the hall for the first one… I was thrilled with your biography by Mr. Sugrue… I remember my uncle E. V. A., telling that once he hypnotized you to restore your voice, then was unable to give you the suggestion to bring you back to consciousness…”
B2. 5/24/44 Letter: “I wrote you recently regarding the Life Reading which you are to give me on May 30. I mentioned that I would ask later for a Physical Reading. Since I wrote, I have had another painful attack, and the doctor says the only thing to do is to have an operation and remove my gallbladder. Extensive X-Rays show that stones have formed which they say cannot be dissolved, or absorbed. I have hoped this condition could be healed without removing this gallbladder, but I know that if one has not developed a strong enough faith, then a doctor’s orders must be followed. I want to know if you think you could give me a Physical Reading which could disclose a treatment to clear up this trouble and avoid an operation?…substitute this for the Life Reading…(since this is an urgent matter and I must decide what is best to do)…”
