Lutheran) This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of June, 1944, in accordance with request made by his mother, Mrs. [3246], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, - yes what a combination of colors!

3. We have those conditions and those activities which are parts of the consciousness of this entity, [5188].

4. Let the body keep those attitudes of constructive forces in its experience, knowing as it enters into these activities, it is not for self but that others may know that freedom which comes with a greater knowledge of the Prince of Peace, of the Son, of the Father-God who gave the expression of self in the earth in such measures that He brought sight to the blind, the ability to restore the lame, even overcome death itself.

5. These keep in thy consciousness; that in Him ye live, and move and have thy being, wholly. Then with every experience, every doubt, every fear (not that it is within self to doubt; yet ye may, if ye trust in the shortness of thine own arms or hands, but trusting wholly in Him) ye will come to the more perfect way, the perfect understanding, the perfect interpretation of the meaning of life.

6. For, life itself is the manifestation of that divine influence. Not that ye become as one gloomy, sad, but rather be joyous in the Lord, and these will not only bring greater blessings to thee in thy vision but in thy ability to meet the infections which may come from those malarial conditions from the swamp or from the mosquito. All of these ye can put aside, trusting only in the Christ.

7. Occasionally, do massage along the spine with Cocoa Butter; that is, an ounce in which there has been put five grains of quinine, mixed thoroughly. Massage this along the spine, under the arm and in the groin. Not only will the mosquito not bite, but there will be no malaria. These are not as an omen, but are those influences which will keep the body in attune with the infinite.

8. Know that the Lord doeth all things well. Keep His law. For it is not beyond understanding if ye seek not to have thine own way, but can truly in heart, in mind and body, daily say, “Thy will, O God, be done, in me and through me, daily.”

R1. 10/4/49 [5188]‘s letter: “I was in the tropics for 32 months. Though I repeatedly tried to get quinine from the army medical officers, they would not let me have any. I was therefore unable to use the ointment. I did, however, follow the first suggestion, ‘trusting only in the Christ’. I did not contract malaria or other wounds. And I went through my tour of duty with a greater peace of mind than I had known before. If for no other reason than this, I shall be forever thankful to Edgar Cayce and the A.R.E. Sorry I could not give you a definite statement on the ointment.”

R2. 3/1/52 [5188]‘s reply to questionnaire requesting description of surroundings at time of Reading, exact whereabouts, etc.: “The Physical Reading was scheduled for about 11 A.M. EWT. (6/3/44). This would make it about 2 A.M. 6/4/44 where I was. At the time, I was sleeping in a rather dirty 4-man army tent. We were about 150 yards from Kukum Air Field, on the north shore of Guadalcanal. Though some parts of the island no doubt were colorful, around the Army camps and air fields, it was either dusty or muddy. It is, of course, hard to say what Edgar Cayce saw at night down there. He, no doubt, could see beauty where we couldn’t. He may have been referring to an overall picture, where we confined our outlook to our immediate surroundings… Because of wartime restrictions, I could not give my exact location, so I tried to be as helpful as I could. I knew for what time the reading was scheduled, so I went to bed and fell asleep concentrating on getting in touch with EC. Whether or not he got to Guadalcanal, or found me elsewhere, I don’t know… If I haven’t answered your questions the way you wanted, or if there is anything else you would like to know, please let me know, and I’ll try again. I have re-read the reading many times to try to answer these and other questions. I get more out of it every time, but there is still a lot I’d like to know.”

R5. 9/16/83 GD’s note: Today Mr. [5188] came into my office and gave this additional report on the malaria (mosquito preventive) formula. He has been here this past week-end, with many others, celebrating my 60th anniversary with “the work”:

“Since my return from overseas I have used the malaria formula many times with great success. I used it first one day when I was going to sit in the garden. The ointment was applied with my hands as suggested in the readings. I noticed a swarm of mosquitos about 8 - 12 inches above my head but none came closer. My hands still had ointment on them, and when I raised one towards the mosquitos they flew away. Other friends have used this ointment in the same way with equal success.”

R7. 9/8/46 Letter from Miss Ruth Hoffman of … Health Studio re. use of ointment suggested for [5188] by EC: “I used the formula prescribed which was published under heading of the Mosquito in ‘Mind Digest’. Five grains of quinine dissolved in one ounce of melted Cocoa Butter. The druggist informed me that that formula was used by many women as a vaginal jelly for prevention of conception. This information made me realize that the formula had more than one use as prescribed in the reading. I started having my masseuse massage all my congested muscles with it, and found almost immediate relief from stiffness. Used in the evening, I was completely relieved by the next morning. Once, when my neck was badly congested from a food allergy, it was relieved in 30 minutes by a massage with this formula. I am now using it on patients. Of course, they do not give me as satisfactory information as I can get by using it myself. They forget to observe and remember, but they improve.”

R8. 10/17/49 Dr. Frank Moeser [D.C.] of Pemberville, Ohio reported: “I used the mosquito repellent as suggested in 5188-1 with 100% immediate results.”

Dear Gladys:

Marilyn suggested that I write you this letter, Re: Case 5188-1

Thumbing through the rdgs. while working on a Special Project, my eyes caught the word “ointment” and my heart fluttered with an excitement beyond control. Surely this humble little noun could not by itself alone, have stirred such reactions! Yet I knew, on impetus, that I had to have that formula! Why? I do not know!

As I read further, it turned out to be a - Mosquito Repellent! - and much more!

The following day the pharmacist was selling me quinine and I had decided to buy the pure cocoa butter later.

That eve. I decided to work on my E.C. notes as I felt I could not sleep. My pen kept falling out of my hand - I did not know why. I suddenly realized that somewhere, somehow I had sprained my right thumb and I felt great pain. It was rigid and throbbing.

I remembered having some commercial cocoa butter cream left in a jar. Quickly I dissolved and thoroughly blended a five-grain capsule of quinine and applied it to my thumb.

In less than twenty minutes the pain had vanished and my invalidated thumb was showing off to my other fingers by gracefully bowing in all directions!

Due to a last year rear-end collision, while a passenger in a car, I sustained a severe neck injury causing me excruciating pains ever since. Furthermore, I could not bend my head backwards. Considering the severity of my injury I added five more grains of quinine, (one capsule) to the other five grains resulting in ten grains of quinine to one ounce of cocoa butter cream, and applied it to my neck.

The next morning I had no difficulty in bending my head backwards!

Is it any wonder that my enthusiasm in unbounded? - I think not.

So grateful to you, Dear Mr. Cayce!!!

B2. 11/17/43 Mother’s letter: “I just had an airmail letter from my son in the southwest Pacific area. He was enthusiastic for the book THERE IS A RIVER, and a lot of the boys were lined up to get it after him. He would very much like to have a Life Reading, also a Physical Reading.”

B3. 5/26/44 Mother’s letter: ”…My son is looking forward with great interest to the readings. He has been following the various A.R.E. bulletins… My son is stationed at … Airfield, which is located on the northwest side of Guadalcanal in the Solomon group in the southwest Pacific, their time being approximately 14 hours ahead of us. It will be during the night between the 3rd and 4th of June at his location, when the readings will take place. He will then be at rest and relaxed, no doubt. In any case, he knows the time for the reading, and will be prepared for it… (1) Can anything be done to better sight in left eye? (2) Has he any trace of malaria and can same be prevented? Hoping you will be able to contact my son…”
