Clerk, Episcopalian) This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 15th day of June, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self, Mrs. [5205], new Associate Member of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in “Coronet”.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, as we find, conditions here are not good. There are those tendencies for adherence or adhesions in the lungs and the walls of the lungs, because of the collapsing.

3. We would not use the gas or the injections but, as we find, these would be used persistently, consistently, keeping in the open, with a little exercise, not too heavy but the general exercise morning and evening, keeping out of the night air:

4. Have a good diet that carries a great deal of liver, vitamins B-1, niacin and iron. Yes, KalDak, which carries these, would be an excellent tonic for the body if this is provided with raw milk or homogenized milk.

5. Then have prepared the brandy keg with at least a gallon of the apply brandy in a two gallon charred oak keg. Use the vent so that the gas from this may be inhaled into the lungs. Have a tube to this, to one of the vents, so fumes may be inhaled; the other one very small, just enough for the air to pass in. Keep these very well corked when not using and keep close to where evaporation takes place rather profusely, see? not too hot but so that this is evaporating rather more than just ordinary. Inhale this into the lung at least two or three times a day.

6. Also take Acigest in the milk.

7. We would add also three times a week Calcios.

8. Then we would have at least once a week a thorough massage. This doesn’t mean adjustments chiropractically but more as a masseuse or as the neuropath, following the ends of the nerves. Use Peanut Oil when this is done, and use all that the body will absorb.

9. Do this and we will gain strength, and get rid of these disturbances. The exercise, the massage and the inhalant should aid to prevent irritations where adhesions are indicated in the pleura in the present. Do that.

11. (Q) Will my health permit me to resume my office work this year? (A) Not before the first of next year.

12. (Q) Will it be possible for the collapsed right lung to regain its normal state of health and usefulness? (A) It will be possible; it will be weak. It is very probable, if these are used properly, that help will be obtained.

13. (Q) Will the cavity and fibrosis in the left lung clear up and diseased tissues restored? (A) Will be relieved.

14. (Q) Is loss of hearing in left ear caused by lung condition? (A) No, these are from a prolapsus of the Eustachian tube. These may be aided later but not in the present. For, the general health will improve this condition to some extent. Let the massage extend to the mastoid area on both sides and especially on the left side.

15. We are through with this reading.

R1. 6/22/44 Letter: ”…I am so grateful… I hope that I shall be able to give a favorable report when I write again. Being an inmate of a charitable institution makes it a little difficult. I am desperately going to try to carry out your instructions…”

R2. 7/44 Letter: ”…I have not been able to do much because of circumstances. I have a friend in D.C., who has furnished me with KalDak, Calcios and Acigest. She ordered from the distributors… I finally got them and feel they are helping me. I have been taking 4 shots a day of codeine for months, until I feel as if I had reached the saturation point and I feel that it has been the cause of my losing my appetite. I had been able to eat breakfast, but no other food the rest of the day, but even breakfast began to gag me, so I told the doctor that all I had was the codeine and there was no nourishment in it, but I had asked several times to have the ‘dope’ cut down or cut off entirely so I finally refused to take more than 2 a day. I am hoping I can take my stand against taking any and see if my appetite won’t return. My chief difficulty is still shortness of breath… I am so grateful for your help.”

R3. 11/3/44 Letter: “It’s about a year since I first heard of you, and I have never ceased to bless the day I was led to ask for help, for the encouragement I received has helped me over many a hurdle. Thru the kindness of a friend, I have been able to use one bottle of Acigest and one jar of calcios and 2 cans of KalDak, from which I have derived a great deal of help and I could not help notice the improvement generally. I ran out of KalDak and immediately suffered a setback. I had such excruciating pains across my abdomen, I had to return to 4 shots a day routine. I had been getting along with one and suffered impairment of appetite, but I hope to get straightened out as soon as I start taking it again. I had a friend inquired at Sears and Wards for the charcoal kegs, but they didn’t have any. Some of these obstacles seem insurmountable, but I hope, if the Lord wills, that I shall soon be restored to health. I never forget to pray for you…”

R4. 2/15/45 Letter: “I have hesitated to write you… I am constantly praying for Mr. Cayce’s speedy recovery… I feel greatly indebted for the inspiration and lift which he gave me, which has enabled me to carry on in spite of seemingly hopeless obstacles… At the time of my reading, Mr. Cayce recommended using a special keg. My friends have tried to obtain this, but have been unsuccessful. It seems as if this is the thing which would bring me relief. Is there anything that you might suggest that might be substituted for this item, which seems to be unobtainable?… My bronchi still seem completely blocked on one side, making breathing difficult… Gratefully.”

B1. 9/3/43 Letter: ”…According to medical science my outlook is not very encouraging. The clinical picture shows a completely collapsed right lung and filled with fluid. A third of the left lung remains, but has a 3 inch cavity fluid in lower lobe, blocked bronchi; in fact, a far advanced case, of tuberculosis. I exhausted all resources of a private sanatorium last year. This year finds me on relief. Have been in bed for 10 months. I hesitate to ask for a reading, as I have only a dollar to send you…”

B2. 11/43 Letter: ”…It was generous of you to return the dollar bill which I return as evidence of my good faith. Am enclosing the same dollar for a copy of ‘A Search for God’… The clinical picture shows about a 4th of the left lung and that contains a cavity. The right lung shows that it had been ruptured resulting in complete collapse. I get so short of breath especially when I try to get up… I am so anxious to get back into the rank and file of the toiler… I was a civil service administrative clerk when I became ill… I have been at this sanatorium since April 23, 1943. Before that I was at a private sanatorium for 10 months…”

B3. 1/18/44 Letter: ”…Desperately hoping I shall be freed from the bondage of extreme shortness of breath and coughing which is caused by a ruptured lung - complete collapse - blocked bronchi on right side and a 4th of the left lung with cavity, left. I have tried not to let myself become fearful, though the clinical picture is terrifying…”

B4. 2/12/44 Letter: ”…At the present time the only medication I am receiving is a codeine hypo, 3 times a day. Medical doctors have told me there is nothing in the way of surgery that will help me. Rest was the only thing recommended as my strength needed building up… I have been in bed since August 1942. The medical diagnosis shows I had ruptured the right lung causing total collapse - air seeping out and fluid taking its place - the bronchi blocked. Fibro-cystic apparently to material sense, destroyed most of the left lung tissue, leaving the upper lobe with a 3” cavity, with very little breathing space. Last March, I hemorrhaged for 12 days. My temperature usually runs between 99 and 101, now. I seldom get up because of shortness of breath. I feel as if I were suffocating and have no place to put the oxygen that the little exertion tried to crowd into the lung. I wonder if my deafness in my left ear is caused by the T.B. infection? Do you see the complete restoration of health and usefulness to the diseased lungs and the strengthening of the heart muscle? Will the cough disappear and will I be able to breathe normally?…God bless you…”

B5. 6/7/44 Letter: ”…I have had so much pain in my left side in the region of the cavity and under the lowest rib and thru the back (the ribs are quite distended from the extra strain, having only part of the left being in use). The doctor didn’t seem to know what caused the pain - seemed to think that it was below the lung and the only surcease that was to be had was through the use of opiates. I am still being given 4 hypos of codeine daily, but that of course, doesn’t get at the cause. I cough a great deal and raise considerable sputum. I have been so short of breath. I suffer agony for some time after I get back to bed after a short trip to the bathroom.”

B6. 6/15/44 Letter: ”…Very short of breath - a great deal of pain. Three hypodermic injections of codeine daily for months. A great deal of coughing and copious sputa. No operation on lungs has been attempted because of weak condition. M.D. said the only operation he would suggest would be a bronchosti [bronchotomy?], but I was unable to stand even that. In bed practically all the time.”
