GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
As we find, there are serious disturbances where there has been the injury to the spine, there are pressures, though not of such natures that these may not be bridged if that attitude is held which has sustained the body so long. For these are worth while.
-
We would use the low electrical treatments of the Wet Cell Appliance, and we find the body would get help. To be sure, the nature of these is the low form of electrical forces, and these will work with the vibrations of the body; and where there are hindrances, as here, we will, with the massage, bridge these much.
-
We would carry in the Appliance the Iodine, but let this be charged in the Appliance. Use, then, one of two pounds of the Copper Sulphate and three ounces of the Tincture of Iodine suspended in it, but use this as the Radio-Active. One plate, the copper pole, use a copper plate; the other that which is the nickel pole, use a nickel plate. Both of these would be made small. The copper plate would be attached first to the right wrist, the nickel plate to the left ankle. These should be on wrist and ankle where the pulse is felt the stronger, see? These should be charged three amperes for thirty minutes on the low or slow charge, in charging the Appliance. Do not put Charcoal in the solution.
-
It will be necessary to recharge these and to keep plates very clean. Polish them with emery or sandpaper when, or before, putting on and when taking off.
-
These vibrations would be used thirty minutes each day, with the massage, and we should bring definite improvements to the body.
-
After the use of the Appliance, massage the body with an equal portion of Olive Oil and Peanut Oil. This is to be used on the spine; not too close, of course, to where there has been the pressures, but gradually closer, and then on the limbs and the feet. These should be massaged away from the body. Then, when massaging the spine itself, massage downward, see, in a circular motion, and we will make better conditions.
-
The diets have been very good, but keep those foods which are nerve and body-building. Plenty of raw vegetables, as well as the cooked. These should be kept very well balanced, but use at least two above the ground to one below the ground. Fish, fowl and lamb, but never fried foods, if these are to be taken at all. In regard to these, to be sure, it depends upon the consciousness of the entity respecting these. They each carry those elements for body-building.
-
Ready for Questions.
-
(Q) What should be used for massage? (A) Olive oil and Peanut oil.
-
(Q) What is the condition of my nerves and spine? (A) As has just been indicated, these are pressures, but not sufficient that these may not be bridged.
-
(Q) Does this cause the paralysis? (A) This, of course, causes paralysis.
-
(Q) What is condition of kidneys? (A) As from the pressure in the areas, these do not cause undue stress, though there are times, of course, when there are those reactions from the pancreas that cause disturbance. That is why fats should be eliminated from the diet, see?
-
(Q) What is causing present threat of temperature? (A) More anxiety than other conditions.
-
(Q) Should I go to Marion Frenche’s school for paralysis correctment this summer and fall? (A) Not necessarily, if there is a good masseuse to be had each day. This treatment could be given even by those about the body, if these will be consistently done. The massage would be given in a circular motion. Don’t hurry through with it, but go down the spine, on either side of the spine, not so much on the spine itself.
-
(Q) Would E. L. S. be a good one for giving the massage? (A) Very good one.
-
(Q) From a physical standpoint, is it advisable for me to marry? (A) After this treatment is used for at least nine months to a year - why not?
-
(Q) Did H. O. U. help me? (A) At a time, but we wouldn’t advise renewing this.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/27/45 Letter: ”…You were kind enough to give me a Physical Reading. I have been following the treatment suggested. At that time I requested that Mr. Godfrey ship the appliance to me in … where I went the 2nd week in July and started using the appliance and massage on July 28. I used it continuously, ‘til Nov. 15, when I left … At home, I had some difficulty acquiring the necessary chemicals for the appliance, and wasn’t able to resume the treatment until Jan. 2, so 6 weeks was ‘lost’. Since that time, I have taken the treatment faithfully. To date I have no apparent evidence of improvement, and am writing to ask if I ought to have, by now. I have had 7 1/2 months of treatment, excluding the 6 weeks lapse. I realize what a very busy man you are, and write with some hesitation to ask if you think it advisable to have a second Physical Reading… Perhaps I am doing something wrong, either in regards to the appliance or massage, or perhaps I’m overly impatient? Thank you very much, dear Mr. Cayce, for your interest and efforts on my behalf.”
R2. 4/25/45 GD’s note: Explained that EC passed on in January 1945; encouraged her to keep up with the treatments.
R3. 11/5/49 Reply to questionnaire: “Paralysis (from accident). Onset August 1933. Continued paralysis from waist down. 1933 and 1947, laminectomy operations. Kept up treatment for one year. Not cured.”
R4. 1/15/52 IMG’s questionnaire-letter: ”…Upon checking your folder, I find that your first inquiry letter, along with membership blank which you supplied at that time, has been misplaced. Consequently we do not have the following information: contact, birth date and place, occupation and religion… I have also reviewed your reading and although it has been several years since the date of it, I am wondering if you would be interested in trying the treatment outlined again, if you were to receive from us the materials needed for your Wet Cell Appliance… Your reading indicated that you had every reason to expect physical recovery… So often when people who were given the Wet Cell or Radioactive Appliance were advised through check readings that they were not using the Appliance correctly, or perhaps the plates were not being kept clean or the plates were not fastened securely or in the right place; last but not least, some reference to the mental attitude, though I do not believe this would apply in your case. Could it be that you did not reorder your refills for the Appliance through Mr. Godfrey, thereby not receiving the correct ingredients? If you would be interested in repeating the treatment outlined in your reading, do let us know and we will be glad to supply you with your first refill for your Appliance. Further, we will write you in detail regarding the correct use of the Appliance. I notice too, that there is a typographical error in your reading which may have made some difference in the manner in which the Appliance was used. If you still have the copy of your Physical Reading would you like to make the following correction? ’…Use, then one or two pounds of the Copper Sulphate…’ (instead of, ’…Use, then one of two pounds of the Copper Sulphate…’”
R5. 2/15/52 Comment by IMG: “The following extracts are taken from a magazine article on [5208]: ‘At the age of three [5208] was lying flat on the floor drawing ‘horsis’; at five, her Mother Goose book was full of her own interpretations, and from then on the margins and blank pages of her school books, her writing pads and notebooks, were filled with sketches. She majored in art at … Through these years, [5208] was not at all ‘wedded to her art’… She did not settle down seriously to her art, until after she was injured in an automobile accident while crossing the continent on her way to study in Europe. Restricted in her physical activities from then on, she gaily readjusted her life and seriously took up oils after a period of study with … Almost immediately, her work began to receive notice at shows in which she exhibited…’”
Background
Background
B1. Single; artist, oil paintings.
B2. 12/21/43 Letter: ”…I am greatly interested in learning of the Association, its purposes and ideals and program, and have applied for a Physical Reading. Some years ago, I was ‘cracked up’ in an accident, and since then have been unable to walk. It is my fervent hope that you will tell me what’s wrong, and what I can do about it, to get back the use of my legs…am dismayed to learn that your readings are booked ahead 9 to 12 months, as I am most anxious to start doing whatever you can advise me to do… Five years ago, I spent some months in a clinic in …, where I learned to handle myself a little better than formerly, but in spite of trying all possible treatments that held out any hope of recovery, I seem to have made little progress toward getting well. Prior to my learning about you and your work, I planned to [go] back to the clinic… If at all possible, I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me before then, for you may find that there is some other course I could follow… Am sending along a magazine article that more or less ‘explains’ me.”
B3. 5/20/44 Questions submitted in addition to those at end of 5208-1: “(1) What is the condition of my nerves and spine at the point of injury? (2) Below the injury? (3) What can be done to restore the function of my nerves? (4) To whom should I go? (5) Should I follow a diet, and if so, what food and drink should I avoid?”
