Born June 17, 1915, in Comanche, Texas. USCG, Time of Reading Constitution Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. Pier Base, Boston, Mass.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited, in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain and how. You will answer the questions as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here - and what a reckless record - of that entity now known as or called [5220].

3. In giving an interpretation of the records, this entity should compare self much more with the standard as to what constitutes spirituality and materiality. For there are those awarenesses within the consciousness that all is not well.

4. Would ye seek to know thyself as others see thee? Would ye seek to know thyself, see thyself, as thy Maker sees thee? Then look deeper within thy heart.

5. Then, when you have the answer, come and ask again.

R1. 10/13/47 Letter: “Do you have abstracts from Physical Rdgs. by EC on high blood pressure, hypertension? Does the A.R.E. plan to publish a book giving abstracts on all the diseases of Physical Rdgs. by EC? If you do plan to publish such, please let me know so I can subscribe.”

R2. 1/17/48 HLC’s letter: “Yours of 10/13/47 reached us 12/12/47. I wanted to answer it myself, hence the delay, since I am out of the office much of the time. I read the strange Life Rdg. which you received first. In such cases, we always offer to try again without further membership dues. The reading was far from average. Its brevity and peculiar wordage may have been caused by some strange aspect in the records which Edgar Cayce was trying to read for you, or it may have been distorted by some conditions arising at the time the reading was given, or it may have been due to the pressure on Edgar Cayce at the time. In any event, it is interesting and any light you can throw on the remarks contained in it will be of interest to us…”

R3. 3/31/48 Letter: ”…I was quite flattered that you took the trouble to write to me personally. Your interest is profoundly appreciated… In regards to the Life Rdg. given by your father, I must say frankly, I was disappointed. The very tone of it, when I come to think of it, was something out of this world. No, I do not believe that it was anything lacking, because of your dad’s health at the time, or to any distracting influence, but simply full and complete. In a way, after receiving it, I felt like an egg-sucking dog for wasting your dad’s time. After a review of my own life, I have come to the conclusion that the ‘information’ might be right. They or it would probably give similar information to other like cases of people who don’t have guts enough to live up to their convictions. Yet again, I may be fooling myself

• further steps on the search for truth will prove something. Put yourself in my place. From the reading I expected to get some information of past incarnations, some hints as to vocational guidance, some advice as to my weaknesses and their correction, but what did I get? Yet if such were given, it might have been a detriment. Christ did not heal ALL who came unto even Him, neither were all heard Him saved. So why should I expect more from your father? The personal contact with him was worth more to me perhaps than would have been a detailed specific L.I. Through him and his work, I have been shown more about creative force than I ever got from 20 years of going to church. When I received the reading, there was a pause in it, ‘Yes, we have the record - and what a reckless record’. I wondered whether or not the record might be sent me later, apart from what I received. As for memories’ record - born in a good lower class home of affectionate parents of good stock, health, intelligence and morals. My childhood was extremely happy, but my adolescence was a nightmare, due to my developing a rare syndrome - narcolepsy. The local doctors were baffled, and did not seem to give a damn. Most people just branded me as lazy, but anybody half-way observant would know that drastic personality changes are but marks of pathology. My condition became so bad that I was falling asleep on any occasion - several times a day - and I had to quit school. I spent most of my time in the woods and read everything I could, on health and medicine, living like an Indian, and hoping that nature and time would heal me, and resolving that some day I would show the doctors a thing or two. Yes, I did get better and made some attempt at getting a medical education, but being without funds, having to work 8 hours a day and go to school, I gave up after a year, as I could not see where I was ever going to get enough money to go to medical school. I have been in the Coast Guard since. There was a time when I was ready to get out, but my father was disabled by a broken back, so I stayed in the service and helped keep the home fires burning. The second time, my intention to go back to school was put out by war. Yet, I am still plagued because I have not carried out my childhood conviction of being a medico. Perhaps that was what the information was referring to. If they were, they should have said so. Dr. [4927] can tell you what a person with narcolepsy is up against (equine encephalomyelitis) which affects the horses in my part of the country. I wonder if your father ever gave any readings on this condition? I have an unfinished fight against those viruses, and until it is finished, my soul will not rest. Thanking you…”

B1. 11/8/43 Letter: “May I call in person some weekend? Since I first read of your work, I have wanted to consult you. Following an injury (brain concussion) in my 13th year, I had narcolepsy, from which I have largely recovered, but still am bothered with its equal. That condition aroused in me a strong desire to study medicine, but also contributed largely to prevention of carrying out that conviction. Would like to know if there is any way in which I can completely recover? I still have the desire to study medicine, but feel that my age and family obligations are hardly in line with that desire. For this is a lost man seeking to find himself. What vocation would you suggest I pursue?… I have faith in you.”

B2. 5/23/44 Letter: “It was my privilege and opportunity to make your acquaintance last fall… The talk with you certainly gave me an inspiration and a new outlook toward life. To recall your memory, I was the sailor who called one Sunday morning and came over to your home, where I met Mrs. Cayce… If you recall, I was complaining of an old disorder of sleep attacks which doctors call narcolepsy. You were very kind; in fact when I told my friends about you, I described you a modest, simple man with a strange light in his eyes, a sort of cross between a sincere preacher and country doctor. I don’t know what it was, but when I left your house I had a new lease on life. I began at once to take stock of myself and to return to the early teachings of my parents, from which I had drifted so far. Yes, I started to read that good book and found it full of psychic phenomena, as you said I would. What had before appeared boresome, contradictory, and beyond understanding, now I found clear, interesting, and truthful. I was even surprised to find records of many men whose works were very much those of Edgar Cayce. I had at first thought that you were the only one ever to experience such blessed truth and knowledge; I have stopped worrying about my sleeping spells, for they may have been a blessing in disguise; for it is only during sleep that I have experienced any psychic phenomena - weak and undeveloped as they were, those dreams often came true. Since your talk I have followed your advice and read the bible, and all the literature on extra-sensory phenomena I can find… I expect to be present for the reading, but in case I am not, please try to secure from the information the following help: Advice is sought to increase my energy level. Advise regarding my future relations with W. E. N., who is the legal wife of Mr. W. E. N., but with whom I have been in love for 5 years, and with whom I am now living. We have tried to secure a divorce so we could marry, but without results. Her son […] is living with my parents, where he seems to be quite happy and where he is receiving more affection and love than he ever before received. If the information designates any vocation different from my present, and that vocation requires a lot of specialized training, inquire as to definite source such as school where such training may be best acquired. That is asking a lot, but I have complete confidence in the powers manifested in you, and am determined to make earnest, sincere application of the reading…”
