-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Why doesn’t she stay in her room? Wait a minute: it’s time for the reading. Yes, we have the body on the way, [5229].
-
As we find, the disturbances with the organs of the sensory system, the eyes, the ears, the taste, all come from an incoordination between the nerves of the cerebrospinal system and the sympathetic, and thus the patches in the areas of the brachial centers show lack of coordination being established between these circulations. Thus we have in throat, in eyes, in the whole nervous system, periods when all of these give a great deal of disturbance.
-
As we find, if we would apply a gentle massage osteopathically which would make for coordination in the cervical, dorsal and including the 9th dorsal and throughout the lumbar in making coordination with the cerebrospinal and sympathetic, using the short-wave electrical vibrations to change activities to bettered conditions, we will bring better forces and influences for this body.
-
The osteopathic adjustments should be taken rather in series; that is, take about ten; with the last of these take the short-wave with them. Keep us the short-wave every week afterward for at least three or four weeks, and then twice a week again have the osteopathic treatments and combined with, once a week, the short-wave.
-
Thus we will make bettered conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Will my eyes ever be normal enough that I can read and write again? (A) They should be normal enough, if the connections in these areas are made. Use a scraped Irish potato poultice as a purifier for the inflammation over the eyes at least once a week. Use an old potato, scrape it, put on a gauze and then put on the eye and let it remain at least 30 minutes. Then cleanse with any good antiseptic for the eyes, as an eye wash. These will, with the adjustments, make for much quicker improvements.
-
(Q) Will my hands and wrists ever be flexible again so that I can play the piano? (A) If those activities with the corrections and the short-wave are eliminated, by stimulating the alimentary canal for purifying the system, yes.
-
(Q) Why do the readings refer to osteopathic adjustments of the spine and not to chiropractic adjustments? (A) Chiropractic adjustments are good; but there are few chiropractors who make proper adjustments.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/23/44 Letter: “I very much regret to say that my reading on the 15 of June was very disappointing; so much so, that I think I will analyse it a little, if I may. Your first remark in the form of a question, ‘Why doesn’t she stay in her room?’ shows error at the start. We live in a hotel apartment, 3 rooms and kitchenette, dinette and bath. You will recall the first appointment for reading was for May 10… You stated in the letter that followed, that you could not locate the body. I answered and said that at the specified time I was in our living room which faces the east during the entire hour. Now on June 15, I was in this same living room from 3:00 to 4:30 P.M., EWT., or 2 P.M. to 3:30 P.M., our time. At no time during that 1 hour and 40 minutes was I out of said living room. I went into the room early for prayer and meditation, and was not out of the chair in which I seated myself for the entire time. The body could not have been ‘on the way’ at any time between 3:30 and 4:40 EWT., because it was stationary before, during and after said hour. Now as to your 2nd paragraph, you refer to ears, taste, and throat. I have not now and never have had any trouble with ears or taste, and only very rarely a sore throat, and no other throat trouble. As to the eyes, references to previous correspondence will show that I have written you telling of my eye trouble. As to osteopathic treatments, I have had them in the past. As to short-wave treatments, I have been informed that short-wave is a heat producing instrument, and not an instrument producing vibrations. Is my information correct? Now referring to A-2: Said answer is ambiguous. What ‘activities’ should be eliminated? Now to question 3: I think if you will refer to my application sheet, you will find this was not the question asked. If answered, would have required an entirely different answer, it seems to me. Mr. Casey, I am disappointed deeply. Perhaps so much so, because I had built high hopes. To be quite frank with you, there is no analysis of my condition except as I had already stated to you. Such other analysis is largely in error. I can hardly believe after having read the book ‘There Is A River’ by Thomas Sugrue, and literature from the Association, that what was sent me was your reading. My physical condition is very much different from what was indicated in the reading. Now here is a thought: Could my prayerful attitude asking for divine presence to fill the room, and a chanting of ‘OM’ during that hour and 40 minutes, have in any way interfered with the reading? Or should I have been in a more passive or negative attitude? I was in the same prayerful attitude and chanting on May 10, at which time you could not ‘locate the body’”.
R2. 7/11/44 EC’s letter: ”…I am very sorry indeed to know what you have to say about your reading. Such things, I am sure, must be looked for sometimes. This is possibly one out of a thousand, but if you return the data, we will be very glad to return your membership fee. I am sorry to be of a disappointment. I can’t explain it to you because I don’t know. What comes - comes, and what doesn’t - well, we can’t supply other words. Thank you for writing me…”
R3. 9/26/49 Questionnaire sent. No reply.
R4. 3/18/52 Notation by IMG: No record of verbal or written contact on this case since letter of 6/23/44.
R5. 6/26/52 Dr. Moeser’s chiropractor] oral report to GD: “Mr. and Mrs. [5229] - both chiropractors after a fashion, and teachers of metaphysics, apparently combine metaphysics with chiropractic. They turn out students without the approval or authorization of the Chiropractic Association.
“Possibly, Mrs. [5229]‘s positiveness and meditative state clashed with EC’s purpose in giving the reading, resulting in the statement at the beginning: ‘Why doesn’t she stay in her room?…’ with regard to the answer of Q-3, it might be because she turns out poorly equipped chiropractors who do more harm than good in practicing their profession.”
R6. The demand for readings in 1943-1944 was so great that appointments were made many months in advance. Since EC’s desire was to help all who requested readings, he sometimes gave as many as 6 during one period. When it became a physical impossibility to keep this schedule, the overflow appointments would be cancelled, or on rare occasions left for the next period. Thus the problem arose to locate the individual during that specific hour. Under such circumstances, the Suggestion by GC would be worded: “Now, you will have before you the body of …, who was at …” The discrepancy in time could account for EC’s failure to locate the body of Mrs. [5229].

B1. Born March 26, 1891 in Massachusetts; resides in Indiana; married; no children.
B2. 11/22/43 Letter: “My husband and I have just finished reading TIR, and have enjoyed it thoroughly…do appreciate the value of this book; and more especially are we interested in your apparently wonderful work. I would indeed appreciate a reading with the hope that my own physical condition may, as a result, be bettered…”
B3. 1/1/44 Letter: ”…Would of course, be happy to have the appointment as soon as possible, as aside from the handicap of poor health for many years, I have an eye condition which is serious and painful and keeps me from doing and reading. Also on this December 16, I met with an accident in my home from which I am still suffering much pain…”
B4. 2/14/44 Letter: ”…I was down so long from my accident and for the past 10 days have suffered another severe attack with my eyes and could not write or type before now… (1) Why do the readings refer to osteopathic adjustments of the spine and not to chiropractic adjustments, since spinal adjustment is a chiropractic basic principle, rather than osteopathic?”
B5. 5/10/44 Notation by GD: “EC attempted a Physical Reading and said, upon repeating the address in undertone: ‘We don’t find the body here.’”
B6. 5/11/44 Notation by GD: “Received [5229]‘s letter dated 5/7/44 stating: ‘I will be at my home address as given in my application… I wonder if this is of any importance? G. L. A. is my real name. But I rarely ever hear it, since my family and friends have for years called me by a nickname, Pickie, which perhaps I cherish more than the name G. L. A…’”
B7. 5/29/44 Letter: ”…As to my appointment on May 10, I was right here in my apartment at the … You had given me the hour 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M., EWT., and I went into my living room at 9:15 our time, knowing that 10:30 A.M. EWT would be 9:30 our time. I sat quietly on the davenport, facing the east, with eyes closed, in a prayerful frame of mind, until 10:55 our time. The hall was unusually quiet and there was no disturbance of any sort. I had even removed the telephone receiver, so that ringing of the phone would not disturb… For my June 15 appointment, I will be in my apartment the same address as before. There will be no one else in the apartment but myself. I want to cooperate in every way…”
