This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of June, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [5230], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [3052] and the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born July 10, 1887, in St. Louis County, Missouri. Time of Reading Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Florida.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Pretty large county!

3. We have the records here of that entity now called [5230]. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them, there are many urges which have been and are latent and manifested in the personality of this present entity. Yet, as we find, there are factors which prompt and bring urges in very definite manners.

4. That there have been disappointments, that there is not a family of its own in greater measures, is indicated. Yet people and progress, young people and their environment, their training is of particular interest to the entity; welfare leagues, Red Cross, YMCA. All such organized efforts have a special attraction for the entity. Yet as we find, while it is well to work through organized efforts, this should be to the entity somewhat even more personal than that.

5. For the entity, as viewed from the combination of the physical or material manifestations and the urges from latent activities in consciousness of other realms, this should be a more personal work. If the entity would, then, undertake physical education especially for the teen-age girl, it would be well. Become rather as the individual whom groups of high school age would look to as mother, for the entity might mother the entire group.

6. The physical education we find indicating that there would be taken into consideration the homes, the environs, the abilities; not regimentation, but training from the manner of dress, the manner of conduct, in the home, in the relations to members of the home, in the education of dress, of hair-do, of conduct through the whole period of a year, two years. Thus we would find the entity finding an outlet for self which may not only contribute to the entity’s peace of mind, and the entity’s fulfilling of a desire, but contribute much to the motherhood of this land in many places.

7. For such direction is not to be counted in dollars or cents. It goes far beyond that. Since the entity is innately and manifestedly capable in such direction, it would require only that there be taken just a little time, even between now and when a school somewhere would open this fall. Let it become a part of a public service. The entity may become, then, one who would be sought in many places for the organizing, for the establishing of such a regulation or ruling in relationships to classes in public schools.

8. As to the urges which are latent from astrological aspects, these will bring group activity. For in Jupiter, in Venus, in Mars, in Uranus, we find the urges.

9. In Jupiter we find the universal consciousness, the benevolent activity, the desire for home. In Uranus, Jupiter and Venus we find the beauty, the abilities for direction or posture, of color, of hair-do, of the ways in which such would be conducted. These would be in keeping with the dreams, as it were, of the entity itself.

10. As to the appearances in the earth, these we find quite varied and not all may be given but these which may indicate for the entity these latent powers, latent abilities in the experience.

11. Before this we find the entity was among those groups who undertook to go West with the periods of discovery of gold in California. The entity then was among a group, in the name Mary Meyers. A lovely girl of some fourteen years when again, at or near what is now St. Joe, there were those periods of disturbance, when many of the families were combined and left with children to be cared for.

12. The entity became then a mother to many who were not of her own family, and yet did a good job of rearing those in those ways which brought a credit, not only to the entity, but that group who entrusted the entity with their charges.

13. Thus the entity, from the spiritual source, is better endowed than many an individual for such undertakings.

14. But for this entity to apply it as an organized activity or in national organization will cause the entity to lose that personal touch which the entity today may give to many who would be lost in a larger group activity.

15. In the experience the entity gained throughout. There was the disappointment of individuals over love, and not too sublime a judgment, as will be seen from other experiences.

16. Before that we find the entity was in the English land when there were those efforts for organizing of groups for special preparations in teaching.

17. The entity was then in the name Clair Callahann. In the experience the entity was a teacher, an instructor in that which applied to home economics, as well as the learning of reading, writing and mathematics; conducting a home, buying, disposing of those things which were to be wasted in such, and these activities brought a sternness to the entity which still is a part of that consciousness; yet the determinations in self to meet these may be turned into smiles. For a smile gains entrance into the confidences of individuals when reprimands bring little but resentments.

18. Find an interest common to both, if you would find or make the abilities to interest others. For those who are interested in us are those in whom we are interested. All souls are precious in the sight of the Maker. Let all experiences of the teen-age girl, who are to be the mothers, the home builders of this fair land, be of interest to thee, and you will see even a greater change than ye did in those experiences when ye builded in Cromwell’s day.

19. Before that we find the entity was in the Grecian land when there were activities in bringing other groups, to the last, under subjugation, when wars brought turmoils, and the entity undertook to aid in the nursing, in the caring for those who were offering themselves in a service.

20. These brought hardships to the entity, yet in that brought to the lives of others made for harmonious experiences, save in the loss of one with whom the entity became materially infatuated.

21. Ye have met him again and ye are interested, yet fearful, and have become disappointed.

22. Build, then, rather in the minds and the hearts, lives and bodies of those who are to have their homes, their children, their problems, and you will find ye will bring peace and harmony into thine experience.

23. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, among those children who came in with the Atlanteans from what is now portions of Spain.

24. The entity was given those activities to interpret customs, languages, and those activities of inter-relationships of strange peoples in a strange land.

25. Thus organized activities, the abilities to meet peoples, become a part of the entity’s inner consciousness.

26. As to the abilities of the entity, then, that to which it may attain and how:

27. As may be inferred, peace within self first must be found, which comes from the abiding faith in the universal consciousness or love as manifested by Jesus the Christ. This first applied in self, then in the associations with others, especially of those groups in those directions indicated, we will find harmony, a life experience which will bring not only a better place for others to live, but more harmony in self’s own experience.

R1. 9/11/44 Letter: ”…You are such a very busy man that I hesitate to write this letter, and I’m sure that I would not be doing it had I not recently spent the week-end with [3052], [5395] and Miss H. A. L., all of whom persuaded me that you would want me to do it. The point of concern is this: that I’m troubled about my reading. I cannot feel that it belongs to me… I’m writing in the kindest spirit. I don’t feel critical at all, but bewildered perhaps. The more I talked with [5395] however, and got the picture of the lack of adequate help in the office, the easier it became to understand the slip up that must have occurred in my case… I wrote from our new address, … stating this new address, and asked to be notified of the day and hour of the reading, so that I could be with you in thought and spirit, but the letter was not answered. Then here comes the reading as of June 6, without my being with you and not even at the address that you have down! How could that be? Surely someone else must have tuned in. I cannot believe that I was with you saying that I should go in for physical education, at this late day physical education of the ‘teen-age girl’, the education of dress, of hair-do, etc. I have no interest in doing that sort of thing, and surely after having had all Of these years of training and experience as a psychologist, helping people with their personal problems, (including their religious personal problems), it would be sheer folly for me to throw overboard that work and begin a new career. Even if I had ability along that line and loved it, it would scarcely be practical at my age. I’m sure that you will agree with me on that. At present, I’m deeply interested in rehabilitation work and I do hope that the way will open for me to find just the right niche in that work - if it is God’s will for me. I am back in … looking for a position and I would so value the guidance that I’m sure the readings generally give the ‘entity’ (if only you have the time to give me) and when I know of it so as to tune in with you… You see, I believe so in what you are doing and have looked forward for over a year to the guidance that the reading would give me at this critical period - you can perhaps understand why I was disappointed not to have been notified when to tune in for the reading…”

R2. 9/13/44 GD’s letter: “The attached notice will explain why Mr. Cayce is unable to answer your letter personally… I hardly know how to begin answering your letter. First I’d like to say, however, that a life reading is received with your birth information as the focal point, rather than your exact location at the time of the reading. If we had your correct birth information, then there is no chance that you were confused with someone else. A few times we have had people feel that their readings did not fit, but after studying them in the light of inner urges they have been found to be most applicable… We welcome reports, good or bad, but we like to try and figure out the WHY, which isn’t as easy to do in a Life Reading as in a Physical Reading. Usually what is given is taking into consideration what is best for one’s spiritual growth - at least that has been our experience; sometimes this may be just the opposite of what we consider a material success… It is not a general reading that could just ‘fit anyone’. Therefore, I feel that it is worthy of study…”

R3. 9/18/44 Letter: “I am more than sorry to know that Mr. Cayce has been overdoing… That means, of course, that nothing can be done to help straighten out my difficulty… I’ll enclose a brief statement of my work so as to help you the better understand why I feel bewildered by the reading. I can but wish that I could have been told the day and hour that the reading was going to take place… However, mistakes are made in the best of ‘families’, and I’m only too willing to overlook them, for goodness knows I make plenty of them myself.”

B2. 8/12/43 Letter: “I feel that it is a distinct answer to prayer that one of my friends sent me a copy of THERE IS A RIVER. My life has suddenly run into a corner, and I don’t know which way to turn. I have been doing psychological work in … (child psychology and parent education) and for the past 6 years have been, in addition to my private work, the psychologist on the staff of Dr. F. O. S. Church School. But the war has thrown a monkey wrench into the works. My salary at the church had to be cut right in half, and other groups such as women’s clubs, to whom I usually was invited for series of lectures, had to give them up for war work. And so I find myself stranded, looking for a new position - seriously in need of one, as I have had no opportunity to save any money and am entirely dependent upon my own efforts. I am a great believer in prayer and guidance, and of course have been looking to this source for direction. I don’t understand why nothing seems to open up to me despite my most conscientious efforts…”

B3. 8/19/43 Letter: ”…I am simply distressed to know that you can’t spare the time to give me a reading now, for this is the very time when I have to have help and guidance from some quarter. This is an emergency, a turning point in my life, and I don’t know which way to direct my efforts… I feel so sincerely that life is asking me to open some new door. Shall I apply my psychological work in the field of business in a position of personnel, or Red Cross work, through the Y.W.C.A., or church or what, or am I to go into an entirely new work?…”

B4. 8/24/43 Letter: ”…I can truly say that I am earnestly seeking to find God’s plan for my life. One chapter seems to have closed, and I can’t go into any new work with heart and soul until I’m sure that it is part of the divine plan for me. I have prayed earnestly for guidance and over and over would come the words ‘God moves in a mysterious way his wonders to perform’, and then I heard about you. Naturally therefore, I hesitate to make a move until I have a reading from you. I am hoping and praying that you will find it possible to put me in ‘as an emergency’, for such it surely is!…”

B5. 8/27/44 Letter: ”…Of course I must wait my turn and I cannot expect you to put me in ahead of another who applied for an emergency reading before me… I am eager to have the reading as soon as ever you can give it to me, so let me know the hour it is to be so that I may spend it in prayer with you…”
