This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of June, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [5281], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born December 28, 1912, in Bremen, Germany (Holler Allee 8). Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Calif.*

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [5281].

3. In giving the interpretation, there is much to be considered. There are those activities in the earth which may become much more effective for the entity, than that in which the entity in the present is engaged.

4. The entity in its activity should choose mind study, or scientific research or, if it desires to be specific, things which have to do with electrical devices or such scientific activities that may be turned into helpful experiences for the fellow man.

5. As an inventor, not too much so. As one naturally given to improve upon others’ failings, or of seeing or applying spiritual law, few will excel the entity when it attempts to magnify its abilities in material relationships.

6. The abilities of the entity are limited only to those things the entity sets as its ideals.

7. It, to be sure, is not all in labor, and yet is all of that, too, and more. It is not only in those things wherein there is to be help had from the experiences of others. In channels of activity these will be, in the entity, almost daily reversed. Others will be gaining and attaining much from the associations with the entity provided ideals are kept, spiritual, mental and material. These should be builded in the entity by the applications of self to spiritual laws applying to mental and material activities.

8. As to the appearances of the entity in the earth, not a great many of those will be given, but sufficient as to indicate the patterns of same.

9. Before this we find the entity was in the early settling of the land, among those who were hired soldiers who came into the land and yet the entity caught something of freedom not expressed other than in words in some other lands of the entity’s associations. These would be well for the entity to keep, for maintaining only the highest ideals by thinking, being and acting in them, but do turn then towards the scientific way and manner.

10. The entity was then in the name of Ralph Rousch and in those experiences the entity helped much, though being disregarded by some, discounted by others, blessed by many. The entity gained in the manner in which it used its abilities to help others, though in itself heaped unto itself much in the way of material activities in that experience.

11. Before that we find the entity was in the Holy Land. There we find the entity was among those peoples who were not those who journeyed into the land, but among those who remained in the land when there were the disputes as to individuals of certain portions of the land having made themselves, as it were, available for the opportunities of announcing from which there would be the blessings to many of the peoples. These were portions of the entity’s activity.

12. Although the entity attempts to practice much of these, it saw the activity throughout called of the spiritual or creative forces by others.

13. In the experience the name was Sadrai.

14. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land when there were those rebellions in the land with the return of the Priest. This entity actively took up that activity. Thus the conditions bring about blessings to the entity through the scientific reasons for the use of that which is ever constructive to human interest.

15. As to the abilities of the entity, then: First find self and its relationship to that ye worship as thy God. Then study to show thyself approved unto the Lord, a workman not ashamed, rightly dividing the words of truth and keeping self unspotted from the world.

16. Do so in the scientific purposes of the entity.

18. (Q) Along what specific lines or what phase? (A) As has been indicated, creative nature in electricity or electronics or those things which pertain to the scientific nature or manner, and that’s one of the reasons why or how the entity has acted, would act, in the experiences before this, when some of those experiences were turned into questions, see?

19. (Q) What should be done to balance the karma created early in 1937 in connection with the one who loves me, whose entire life and every thought is but for me? (A) These, as we find, should be met. They are dependents one upon the other. These need much to be worked out together, even if there is not the full remaining or retaining those relationships. They are the complement, though, one for the other.

20. (Q) What were the karmic influences to cause such situations? (A) In the experience in the Egyptian land, when in the activities in the preparation, in the houses of Sacrifice and House Beautiful, there were disputations as to causes and purposes.

21. (Q) Having failed to meet them at the beginning, which would be the way now and in future for me and for her to correct the mistake? (A) As indicated, studying to show thyself approved unto God, a workman not ashamed, rightly dividing the words of truth and keeping self unspotted from the world.

22. (Q) Would it be best to simply depart? (A) Read what has just been given. They are a complement one to other. But get out of the tobacco business, get into electronics or those things which pertain to same.

23. (Q) How will the fact that I am in the Army over here [U.S.A.] affect my parents, brothers, sisters and friends and their feeling towards me? (A) This depends entirely upon what manner of peace is brought about.

24. (Q) Would a return to Germany for stay be advisable after the war or rather for short visits? (A) Only as a visit, not as a permanent stay. For the entity of itself came into the the land, accepted same in the manner in which it was brought about. It’s a part of the conditions in the present.

25. We are through for the present.

R1. 1/8/45 Pvt. [5281] wrote EC from overseas [New Guinea], not knowing that EC had passed on 1/3/45: “You made this past Xmas a real holiday for me, new ideas were born in me that day… I cannot express in words how much I thank you… I am studying these pages over and over, still it will be some time before I get the full and right meaning of all of it. Just like the Bible, each time you read it, certain passages mean something new… The main picture seems clear alright and I consider myself extremely fortunate to count myself in the comparatively small number of people who can share in the information for which you are giving your whole life and health. The change of vocation from tobacco to electronics is, of course, a pretty big hop, but I have been interested in this subject all the time; in fact, am taking a correspondence course on radio, etc., for the last few months.”

R2. 3/26/45 Pvt. [5281] wrote ordering publications and donating deposit to A.R.E. which he had sent for reading appointments ahead.

R3. 10/27/45 He wrote: “Ever so often I study over my personal reading and am now on my 3rd correspondence course on that fascinating subject of electronics…still, the question of how and where to get out of the tobacco business and get into electronics for good is on my mind quite a bit. Such a break with the family altogether, everybody is depending on me, more or less, they are all in Germany and I couldn’t and still can’t even write to them. Well, I remember reading about quite a few cases where a vocational change was made in spite of similar and greater obstacles, and my change, if made, surely will be one of them.”

R4. 11/9/45 He sent a Xmas ck., saying: “Just got my orders to leave on a 3 month furlough tomorrow…my new address will be … […, Tenn.], until I go overseas again, which I hope is Germany, where my parents live. Was glad to see from the last DL [Diary-Letter] that Hugh Lynn is back with you all.”

R5. 2/25/46 - 3/4/46 HLC made a visit to Ky. and Tenn. and sometime during this period met with Mr. [5281] and went over his Life Reading with him.

R6. 3/22/46 Mr. [5281] wrote HLC: “I surely was glad I had the chance of meeting you, and again wish to thank you for giving me over two hours of your time which, I know, was not plentiful. This was a great gain, as I not only see certain points in my life reading from a new angle but I could not figure out one or two sentences at all before…

“Regarding the switch away from the tobacco trade into things pertaining to electronics, as recommended or rather ordered in my reading, this seemed so natural and easy while I was overseas in the Army, away from tobacco. Around those jungles during off-duty hours I had so much time to myself, to read the Bible and absorb myself in all the Cayce publications, everything, even myself, was pretty clear to me. Now, back here on furlough among old friends, tobacco firms, tobacco markets, etc., it would seem crazy indeed to make any change at all and, frankly, I am glad now that shortly my furlough will be over, that I have to get away from it again, to where I have again plenty of time to myself, to continue my correspondence courses on electronics and electricity. Even if I do not get to go to Germany to see my parents, these 10 months will not be lost; on the contrary, I begin to see these past 3 months of furlough as lost, submerged in business and materiality all the time. Sure, it’s interesting, even money making, but always I feel impelled to go the other way, the way indicated by the reading. Had I not 100% confidence and trust in the reading, I would not have asked for it in the first place, because curiosity did not play a part here nor in my astrological studies which, by the way, point the same way… But now that I know my purposes; well, it should be so easy, but here I am: age 33, knowledge of electricity and electronics hardly to speak of, strong ties with business associations, still stronger ties with my father’s wishes. Now life becomes a problem sure enough.”

R7. 3/25/46 He renewed his Active Membership and sent a sizable contribution besides.

R8. 5/6/46 He wrote a Thank You letter for A.R.E. hospitality on recent visit to Headquarters.

R9. 8/30/46 He wrote from Germany, being pleased about managing to “work myself out of various assignments other than Germany”.

R10. 10/11/46 He wrote from APO, N.Y., saying: “I finally managed to get stationed here in …, Germany…I work and am quartered just 15 minutes away from my parents’ home, which of course makes us all very happy.”

R11. 7/7/47 “I know it’s a good thing the way I help many people over here (to such an extent, in fact, that many times the amount which I would have sent to the A.R.E. as before has gone up in CARE and other pkgs.), still it seems that all this is so much the parallel to my previous life as described in my reading, where I also was a soldier in a foreign land trying to help the people there, even though much more handicapped.”
