This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of June, 1944, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [5302], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in Coronet (?).

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [5302].

3. In giving the interpretations of the records, there is much to choose from and while that which may be given here may appear as condemning, this takes not from the latent and the manifested abilities which are manifested in this entity; yet there are those tendencies for this entity to see only the dark side of any experience. The entity is pessimistic as to the outcome of any venture.

4. These should be rather replaced with the mind building to see the lessons in pointed stories, or in those told more in the manner of dispensation of periods, or when changes are wrought in the experience.

5. Thus, as we find, there may be made those associations, those connections wherein the entity will read a great many funny papers, or the whole attention of the mind should be turned to Creative Forces which would bring about the opportunities for the possibilities which are latent and manifest in the experiences of this entity.

6. These experiences are too oft allowed to be pushed aside or be considered, “Well, that’s what he thinks.”

7. Think, then, for self; know God is not mocked and whatsoever a man soweth, that must he reap. If ye feel sorry for self, is there any help? If ye would be a man, be manly! If ye would have friends, act friendly! If ye would have love, manifest same in thy relationships with others! and these bring fruits which may be the greater contributing factors in the entity finding itself.

8. The abilities are indicated in regard to activities in correspondence. Conditions which would turn to Creative Energies which would apply to electrical forces will be portions of the entity’s experience. Follow through with these, if there would be brought into the experience and into the life’s activity those associations of ideas and ideals which would bring bettered conditions for this body.

9. As to the appearances in the earth, these have been quite varied. While all may not be indicated, here is given the pattern as to how, through whom and where, the entity might do better in self. Think straight, express self well, manifest love to gain even that which would be helpful for the entity.

10. Before this we find the entity was in the land of the present nativity and these bring into the entity the desire for at times, “ending it all.” These must be kept far, far from the composition of the entity, in building for helpful experiences in the lives of others, in activities for others.

11. For the entity was then in the name Carlot Higgensen. In the experiences the entity acted in helpful parts to many.

12. As a teacher, as a minister, as an active influence in bringing interpretations of the lives and activities of others, may ye be active in the line of endeavor that others of thy friends, others of thy neighbors may come to know ye walk and talk oft with God.

13. Before that we find the entity was in the French land during those periods when Charles II was in exile in that area. The entity was among those acquainted with that entity; not exactly the body-guard nor the friend in whole-hearted sympathy with the undertakings, and yet placed in the position of standing between those who would “make over” and those who would humble themselves before this ruler.

14. The entity was then in the name of Cexelu. In the experience the entity lost, for there were many who should have remembered, who forgot, as in self.

15. Forget not to remember the good things which may bring greater harmony in the loves and life of others.

16. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land during those periods when there were those corrections through the Temple of Sacrifice. The entity offered self, the entity was active and yet turned from those things which were the greater abilities for expressing self to others, and thus the drudgery that living is to the entity.

17. The name then was Herned.

18. As to the abilities of the entity, then, first:

19. DO NOT become so much the introvert who thinks only for self’s own indulgences, but the activities in which greater and greater may be the better application of the tenets and the truths of the life within.

21. (Q) What line of work would I be most successful in? (A) As has been indicated, that which would have to do with Creative Forces applied to material doings and things.

22. (Q) Specifically what kind of job would this be? (A) As has just been indicated.

23. (Q) What is the cause of my fear and how may I overcome it? (A) By seeing the ridiculous and yet the funny side of every experience. Knowing and believing in whom ye have trusted, in the Lord; for without that consciousness of the indwelling, little may ever be accomplished.

24. (Q) What is the cause of my fear? (A) Self-condemnation.

25. (Q) How may I gain confidence to such a degree that I may undertake new adventures? (A) Trust in Lord, Jesus Christ, and not in [5302]!

R1. 7/12/44 [5302]‘s letter: “I’m afraid I do not understand some of it…the information isn’t very specific. As I have no recollection of my former existences, the information is vague. Please do not think that I am complaining, however, as I would like a Life Reading [Physical Rdg.?] and that perhaps will give me further information. I am deeply interested in all psychic manifestations. I have read most of Stewart Edward White’s books on the subject. I wish I had your psychic development.”

R2. 7/17/45 “In regard to the paragraph on bottom of first page [5302-1, Par. 5], the only funny papers I read are in the evening news, like millions of other people do. No doubt it is a subtle way of saying that I fritter my time away. If I see only the dark side of every experience, and am pessimistic about the outcome of every venture, there must be a reason for it. What I want to know is, what is the reason, and how may I overcome it? One answer reads, ‘Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and not in [5302]’. Altho I have been trying hard lately, I admit I’m not very religious. And why is that? It says that, in my last appearance, and in the land of my present nativity (I suppose that is …, Calif.), I was in the name Carlot Higgenson. I can’t make out the next paragraph here. The words ‘may ye be active’ and ‘neighbors may come to know,’ I don’t know whether to connect this with Carlot Higgensen or that I may become these things in the future. If I was a minister or teacher why is it that it does not influence my religious side now? Also it states that because I was in the land of my present nativity, is the reason for the desire to ‘end it all’. My past experiences are so vague that I can’t possibly connect them with the present. It would seem we do not carry over from one incarnation to the other any of the lessons learned, because it says on the last page, when I was in the Egyptian land, and my name was Herned, that I turned from the greater abilities for expressing myself to others, and thus the drudgery that living is today. In short, I’m suffering for something today that I failed to do thousands of years ago. I hope, Mr. EC, you will not think me bitter. Really, I’m only trying to make heads or tails of this thing. You see I’m still drifting along in mental turmoil. I haven’t worked since last Xmas because of a chronic gout condition. So life is drudgery alright. I’ve dabbled quite a bit in psychology, metaphysics and things esoteric. I think the reading is too abstract… If you think additional readings will help, then I’m for it.”

R3. 8/2/45 Gina Cerminara, Ph.D. wrote [5302] a letter giving her explanation-interpretation of his Life Rdg., particularly the passages referred to in Par. R1 above. He answered, asking for a copy of his Life Rdg. which he had misplaced, saying: “When another EC appears on the scene, will you please let me know?”

R4. 1/21/47 [5302]‘s letter, thanking us for copy of his Life Rdg., and ordering Arthritis Abstract. He said: “I am reading THERE IS A RIVER. It is a fine book.”

B1. 11/30/43 Letter: “I am suffering from a bad psychoneurosis. I have a total lack of confidence in my dealings with others especially. The psychiatrists would call me an extreme introvert. This thing started growing on me some years ago and now it seems I can’t break it. I know I can if I find the key to the solution to my trouble. This fear, this timidity makes me die a thousand deaths a day. There are so many things involved in this, that it is very confusing. I believe once I clear up the mental aspects the other things will be taken care of. I’ve been suffering with arthritis, but I believe it is caused by my outlook on life.”
