This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of July, 1944, in accordance with request made by Wife, Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [261].

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [5318].

3. As we find, the conditions which surround this body are both physical and mental, but most of the mental has been brought about by the feeling of resentments from those who should have been very kind and very patient and very reluctant to have ever put this body where there wouldn’t be the little gentlenesses and kindnesses daily administered.

4. It is not well when individuals - who is to judge? but do read the first of the commandments with a promise. Study this. If the better conditions would then be brought to this body, do have those who will talk more patiently with him, those who will take this body for a walk for interesting him in things which have long been neglected in the life.

5. Show an interest in activities of every nature about the home and we will find a different being entirely. It isn’t something to separate from. This isn’t in the nature of those things, but it is the spirit of the individual that has been so submerged it fears even itself, fears to be in the way of others, and others owe this body much.

6. These are not as obligations, these should never be as mere duties but for pure love of the fellow man. For who is thy mother, thy brother, thy sister? “They who do the will of the Father, and same are my mother, my brother, my sister.” These should be studied in the minds of those close to the body. It appears at times that it is more necessary that ye work to make money to pay for the caring of the body, yet this is nothing to what ye have destroyed in the mind and heart of this individual.

7. Do something about self and you’ll do much for this man.

R1. 7/14/44 Wife’s letter: “He is improving in every way at … Sanitarium. You are right in saying ‘his nature has been so submerged it fears even itself, fears to be in the way of others and others owe much to this body.’ His super-sensitiveness has been a great handicap and I will follow your advice and try to improve myself, hoping to help the patient by so doing.”

R2. 4/21/49 Report requested by GD from [5318]‘s wife and from Mr. [261].

R3. 4/28/49 Mr. [261]‘s letter: “Mr [5318] died a year ago last July. At the time of his death Mr. [5318] had apparently entirely recovered from the mental trouble he had at the time the reading was requested, his death resulting from an internal hemorrhage. I never saw a copy of the Physical Reading so do not know what it found or what treatment was recommended. I feel quite sure, however, that the recommendations were not followed by Mrs. […] [[5318]‘s wife]. I would be very much interested some time in seeing a copy of the reading and seeing how nearly the diagnosis agreed with my knowledge of his condition.”

R4. 5/24/49 Copy of 5318-1 sent to Mr. [261] for final report by GD with request to “Please clarify statement at end of reading, if you can, apparently spoken to Mr. [5318]‘s wife: ‘yet this is nothing to what ye have destroyed in the mind and heart of this individual.’” Answer received from [261] on 6/8/49 as follows:

“Am unable to make a satisfactory report on Mr. [5318]‘s wife. He was primarily a mental case and suffered from depression for several years, spending the greater part of his time in sanatariums. From the treatments received there he showed gradual improvement. Along toward the end of his stay in sanatariums he was given electric shock treatments which apparently effected a complete and permanent cure. He was, for the two years prior to his death in 1947, apparently better than he had been for many years. His death came from an internal hemorrhage seemingly unrelated to his previous mental state.

“His friends thought that his mental depression was the result of financial worries. Although of substantial means, his affairs were much involved and the cause of much worry. While he was away his financial advisors straightened his affairs out, thus removing that source of worry. If conditions at home played any part I do not know but would not have thought so. Also I would not know whether the reading played any part in his recovery.”
