This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 17th day of April, 1934, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [535], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [255].

-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [535], New York City.
-
Now, as we find, there are disturbing factors in the better physical functioning of the body, [535]. These are of specific nature, and have to do with specific conditions that have existed and do exist from disorders that may have appeared in times back to be rather of secondary nature.
-
We also have effects of disturbances upon the better equilibrium of the body, as we shall see.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [535], we are speaking of:
-
As to the BLOOD SUPPLY, we find the metabolism disturbed at times. There are indications also that there is the attempt of the system to adjust itself to disturbances of the nature where inflammation from pressure in nerve system has existed; and that there has been produced through these pressures specific conditions in portions of the body; and that these are those in the upper portion of the body, as well as reflexes in some of the organs that are affected - and that affect the circulation to the upper portion of the body.
-
The blood supply, then, is not a cause but an effect, in the conditions as we find.
-
In the NERVE SYSTEM we find there are specific disturbances, as well as specific reactions that are disturbing to portions of the nervous forces of the body.
-
The beginnings of the conditions were from disorders that arose from a character of inflammation, and with the impaired circulation to portions of the body, or in the upper portion, by the pressure existent in the dorsal area - between the 2nd and 5th dorsal - all involved; and we find those forms of lesions, growth, or tendencies for the soft bone in portions of the face or nasal cavity to become disturbed. [Mastoiditis?] We find also these effects have made for a fullness in the throat, that has disturbed or does disturb at periods; though not at all times.
-
As to the reactions, also we find with these pressures irritations to the body in a nervous way and manner; which make it easy for disturbances by or through conditions that produce an unbalancing effect in the body. These may be called more sympathetic, but if they continue to disturb this sympathetic system it must eventually become either an organic disorder or it must become of such a nature as to produce - or continue to produce - irritations that will settle or fasten themselves upon some portion of the organism as to be very disturbing.
-
As to the ORGANS THEMSELVES:
-
In the head, as indicated, we find those things that are also from sympathetic and specific natures - that tend to make for such circulations, that NEED rectifying. And these would make for better balance in the body.
-
The throat and larynx - inflammation from sympathetic nature.
-
Lungs, very good.
-
Digestive system - nervous temperament of the body, produced by continued irritation, makes for disturbances in the assimilating forces of the body, and those properties that at times react as for betterments at others produce nausea, headaches, heaviness in the lower portions of the feet - abdominal area disturbed at times. These are sympathetic, and are of nerve reactions in the body.
-
The heart’s action is near normal, save at those periods when such nerve reaction makes repressions and then we have a disturbed pulsation and pressure.
-
We have in the organs of assimilation and digestion a sympathetic condition, through the nerve reactions, but with correction, with the removal of pressures, as we find, these things - with a normal balance, more normal reactions - would adjust themselves for a near normal body.
-
Then, in meeting the needs in the present, as we would find, first we would begin with adjustments that would be osteopathically given in the upper dorsal and cervical area specific, with GENERAL conditions or treatments through other portions of the body, to present or to make a better coordination in the various activities of the organs and the functioning of same.
-
Specific applications, as we would find, can be made with heat that may be applied to the nasal passages and antrum passages with the Elliot appliance or applicator.
-
And these would, in the general manner, make for the proper corrections for the system.
-
The applications only of the Elliot machine or appliance would not make for a balancing in the nervous system, as well as were the correct coordination made by the massage that would be had through the osteopathic manipulations at least twice a week, while the appliance for the face and head would be every other day, or oftener in the beginning; or dependent upon how the body reacts to same. See?
-
We would also be mindful that the diet is kept well balanced in, specifically, the alkalins, and that the eliminations are increased - necessarily - as the drosses are to be eliminated, absorbed or eliminated and carried out through the various activities of the eliminating systems.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Then, an operation would not be necessary? (A) As we find, not if these applications here suggested would be followed; for they would preclude any necessity of operations.
-
(Q) Is it advisable for me to go to Europe to straighten my mental confusion, or stay here? (A) As we would find, with the removal of the pressure, with the change of those strains on the nervous system in the physical forces of the body, these would aid materially in straightening the mental reactions. However, if there continues to be other relations that disturb the equilibrium and it requires the presence of the body, then it would be better to accede to same and not regret or rue the activity of being stubborn about same.
-
(Q) Am I on the right road to get well right now? (A) If these corrections of these conditions, as we find, are made right.
-
(Q) Any further advice for this body’s better welfare? (A) In the present these, as we find, would be the better adjustments, the better applications.
Do that.
- We are through for the present.

(Letters were enclosed to doctors [Frank P. Dobbins, D.O.; I. Daniel Shorell, M.D.] who may give the exact treatments recommended for you, and who have had experience with following the readings. These are for your information; you may use them as you see fit - but they give the treatments to be followed, and will not necessitate your giving your whole reading to the doctors, unless you so desire.
Also a list of Alkalin Reacting foods was enclosed, of which it seems your principal diet should consist. GD)

R1. 4/23/34 “I want to thank you very much but state that I was a little disappointed in not receiving any information or advice for my REAL TROUBLE. You see, I was about to undergo an operation, and as I am greatly opposed to them, only if really necessary, I wanted to get your help. But nothing of that condition was mentioned. I am going to a healer now, but on the other hand doctors have advised me to be operated on as soon as possible. It is a very difficult situation for me, and would so very much appreciate if you could be of some help to me in this case. The nose condition is most likely only a less serious condition existing. I will attend to that too. Thank you very much for that advice. Perhaps it was due to no concentration on my part, as I was quite busy at that said time, in fact I could hardly give you a thought.”
R2. 4/26/34 EC’s letter:
My dear Mrs. [535]:-
I have just received yours of the 23rd. You know I’ll be very glad to try and be of a help in any way. From the information in your reading, I believe that if you will go to Dr. Dobbins (as an osteopath is suggested) you will find he will be able to make such adjustments and corrections that will eliminate any necessity of your having an operation. If you will notice, the answer to that specific question was that if you carried out the treatments suggested an operation would NOT be necessary. Also it was suggested that the use of the Elliot Machine by Dr. Shorell for the nasal condition would not of itself correct the whole condition, but that it would be necessary to have the osteopathic treatments also - to forestall the necessity of operative measures.
Then, in answer to your question as to whether you were following the correct way to get well, it was given that such osteopathic adjustments and corrections would be much better.
So, I am thinking that possibly your questions have been answered, though you may not feel like they have. Inasmuch as I know that Dr. Dobbins is in sympathy with what we are trying to do, but at the same time would not pass over a situation that would indicate to him it was not considered in the reading, I would suggest that you let him examine you - and show him the reading. Then ask him if he feels there might be other information given through these channels that might indicate more specifically as to what would be necessary in that particular condition. And if he finds or feels it is necessary to get another reading, know we stand ready to do it at any time. At least, by doing this, you will know you are making an effort to have the conditions corrected; you will have the sympathy of as good a physician as there is in New York City, and you may be very sure that you have the wholehearted cooperation of any good that may come through these channels. These three things should assure you that you will at least give yourself the real opportunity to get well without having an operation.
Will you do this for me? And I would appreciate hearing from you as soon as you have been to see Dr. Dobbins, and find out what he has to say. I suggest him, as I said above, because I know he is competent, he is in sympathy, and I’m sure you will find him a lovely individual to deal with.
Appreciating your letter, and hoping and trusting that we may indeed be of a service, I am
Sincerely,
