GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [5361].
-
As we find, there are disturbing conditions. These have to do with the chemical unbalances in the system. These, through the effect to the distribution of that assimilated, cause deposits in the extremities especially; as in hands, feet, but especially where the oils, as it were, of the lymph circulation cause the activity between the muscular forces and the tendons of the body, producing then a form of deposit which comes to be called neuritic or arthritic-neuritic in its nature.
-
There would be first two or three series of Atomidine taken to set up drainages throughout the glandular forces as a contributory force through the glands to distribution of energies and distribution of that assimilated in the body. Then after taking, for instance, one drop of Atomidine each day for five days in succession, leave it off two days and take again for another five days, each morning before the meal is taken.
-
Then the third series, then on the end of the fifth day and third series take five drops.
-
The next day have an Epsom Salts Bath, which will tend to absorb, eliminate, eradicate, so that the system may eliminate the accumulations from body. This necessitates setting up a stimulated circulation by thorough massages, following the Bath, with equal combinations of Olive Oil and Peanut Oil which may be absorbed by the body and which may stimulate eliminations.
-
Also increase the chemical forces which may be added by the foods such as celery, lettuce, carrots, water, cress, and the like. And these oft prepare with gelatin.
-
Also use wheat germ oil, or the wheat germ with the oil, or wheat germ oil and also wheat germ with the cereals.
-
Also take plenty of citrus fruits, but not these at the same meal with cereals.
-
While it may be necessary to repeat the Atomidine with the Epsom Salts Bath and the oil rubs two or three times, have at least five or ten days between the periods of taking these and we should be able to eliminate these disturbances from the body, setting up better drainages, better balance and the active forces of the glandular system be more in accord and harmonious. Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should eprolin, a vitamin E concentrate, be continued? (A) Not necessarily, as the two quantities of E vitamin are to be taken in the forms indicated, which as we find with the purifying of the glands, with the massage in the manner given, would supply sufficient, see? and be more easily assimilated, more uniform in eradicating and building better conditions for the body.

R3. 1/8/66 A.R.E. Member Mrs. O. J. Lacey’s letter (Rt. 3, Farmington, Mo.): “My doctor approved the Atomidine and Salts Baths with the Peanut Oil Rubs (as recommended in your Circulating Loan File of arthritis cases). That was two months ago and my joints are working better than they have for several winters.”
R4. 4/18/72 Letter from Mrs. Thomas Hannan, 2877 Toupin Blvd., St. Laurent, P.Q., Canada: “You will be happy to know that I am just about cured of Arthritis as a result of treatment according to the Cayce file. Hospital X-Rays confirmed that my whole spine was arthritic in May, 1970. I was becoming quite crippled and was limited in the use of my arms and legs. I couldn’t turn in bed nor could I get out of bed without help. Doctors were not at all encouraging. I threw away the medication I was using and began taking the Atomidine and Epsom Salts baths accordingly. I followed the diet suggested in the readings and was massaged with the Peanut Oil - Olive Oil - Nujol combination. I had amazing results very soon and today I am just about back to normal. However, I am still sticking with the formula. In May of last year, my husband and I went to Virginia Beach and spent most of our week there at the A.R.E. library. It was wonderful and we hope to go back there in September or October of this year. Being members of the A.R.E. is a priority in our lives.”
R5. 4/22/77 Report by Mrs. Mary Sutter: ”…I have bought the book THE EDGAR CAYCE HANDBOOK FOR HEALTH. I had already read the book Edgar Cayce THE SLEEPING PROPHET over a year ago. In the book he said to use peanut oil for arthritis.
“I had a bad case of arthritis in my right hip and leg that I was living on pain pills. I tried peanut oil. I used the oil Friday - Sunday, Tuesday nights, Wednesday. I got up in the morning and I couldn’t believe the pain was completely gone. That was over a year ago and I have had none since.
“I have faith in simple remedies because my mother used to make a green salve from mullein leaves and it really worked…”
R6. 5/4/77 Report by A.R.E. Member:
”…In November, 1976, while squatting and twisting to reach something in the kitchen, I tore the medial cartilage in my right knee. The pain was terrific, and the subsequent edema made walking self-limiting. One week later I was able to see an orthopedist of note in New Haven. He told me that the cartilage (from the history I gave him of the injury, the lifetime joint cracking, and his examination) was of the juvenile discoid type, and as such were more prone to injury. He stated that he believed the cartilage to be completely torn, and that I could not injure the joint further by activity, and the treatment was symptomatic. If the joint continued to be swollen and painful, surgery to remove the cartilage could be performed with a possible remission of the symptoms. As a nurse, I was more than reluctant to submit to surgery, especially since my brother has had this same problem, which surgery only partially alleviated. The doctor suggested that I wait to see if the symptoms would subside on their own. They didn’t.
“In January, 1977, my mother gave me Jess Stearn’s book about Edgar Cayce. Since I have dry skin, I made the lotion of peanut oil, olive oil, lanolin, and rose water, and it did help the dry skin condition. I started massaging it into my knee, as I read that peanut oil will decrease the incidence of arthritis, which I expected would add to my discomfort as time went on. By this time I had a well established limp, and I had accepted it as the way I was going to walk for the rest of my life. (I am 26 years old.) One month previous to the injury, I had started jogging two miles a day, but afterwards I couldn’t walk well, let alone run. After about a week of halfhearted daily massages with the lotion, I noticed that I was not limping all of the time any longer, but only after prolonged standing and walking, which my job required. In two weeks of almost daily massages with the oil, I felt up to walking the two mile route I had previously run, and by March I was running the entire distance in 13 to 17 minutes. At first my knee hurt very badly, but it hurt walking anyway, so I ran. Then gradually I could forget I had a knee, and just enjoyed running. This was a fantastic development, since I had resigned myself to a lifetime of a ‘bad knee,’ the same as my paternal grandmother and aunts have suffered most of their adult lives.
“I am currently running three to eight miles a day with only occasional discomfort in my knee. The limp has resolved, and there has been no edema since March. The only trouble I now have is in laying on my right side in bed (a waterbed). As I relax, the joint feels as if it is sliding out of place and often becomes very uncomfortable. This is easily remedied by a change in position, but even this is getting better. Now I am applying the lotion or plain peanut oil after showering, with very little massage…”

Dr. [5361]
Dear Dr. [5361]:
It was so good to get your request for a copy of your reading. As you will see from the ANONYMOUS copy enclosed, we did not hear from you after the reading was sent, or else the letter got lost in the mass of mail arriving daily during the last year of Edgar Cayce’s life. When we did get around to trying to locate you we could not. Now I find that both Charles Thomas Cayce and Herbert B. Puryear have known of you and your work in parapsychology for some time, but they didn’t know you had obtained a reading; hence they could not alert me as to your whereabouts so I could request a report from you.
At your convenience I’d appreciate very much having you add your comments (to be used with your Case Number only, of course) which I could insert following Page 2 of the reading
- indicating evaluation of the reading at the time, whether or not you followed it and, if so, the results. You will notice that there are supplementary pages listing reports from other individuals (A.R.E. members) who have used the treatments from your reading (which is in the Circulating File on Arthritis) with splendid results.
Since you wrote me on Atlantic University stationery from Dr. Puryear’s office I assume you are knowledgeable about our work and do not need current introductory material. When you are next a visitor here I’d like to meet you in person.
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis Turner
R9. 3/29/81 Dr. [5361]‘s reply (on card):
Dear Mrs. Turner,
“In answer to your letter of 1/8/81, I did not have enough confidence in the reading to follow it. I hope I will have the pleasure of meeting you. Thank you for your interest,” [5361]
R10. 4/28/81 Report by A.R.E. Member Mr. J. F. Thompson, 702 Kellogg Avenue, Charles City, Iowa: “Thank you for your letter of introduction to A.R.E. and its facilities. Since becoming a member, February 81, I have made limited experiments with some of the Cayce Readings.
“First, I had a crippling case of degenerative Arthritis. I massaged both legs, especially the knees and the center of the disease. After about 5 days of this, I noticed a distinct improvement in my hands. But my knees; the more I rubbed them the worse they got. Finally, and after about 7 days massage with peanut oil, I threw in the towel and left off the massage.
“What happened next is as amusing as it is confusing. Within 3 days, the arthritis, or pain that is, had evaporated. I could even do side straddle hops and limited running in place.
“That may be hard to believe, but never-the-less, it is the gospel truth. Also gone are those expensive office calls and largely ineffective medicines.
“On top of all this, our local doctor had arranged an appointment for me at the Mayo Clinic 23 March. Just prior to that event, and for what I thought justifiable reasons, I started massaging my legs all over again. And again, the pain became almost unbearable. Sunday, 22 March, the pain got so bad, my wife and I had to fore go our window shopping.
“But, on arising Monday, 23 March, the pain again had vanished. During the interview with the Mayo Dr., I was asked to walk and to exaggerate certain movements. After which the doctor asked me if I wanted the operation anyway? I said, ‘not unless I have to.’ Whereupon he said, ‘I do not think the operation advisable at this time.’
“In conclusion, can you imagine that endless list of persons reduced to tortured cripples by Arthritis who will never learn about the healing effects of peanut oil?”

B1. 11/23/43 “My doctors have been unable to diagnose the cause of my ailment nor have they been able to prescribe the necessary treatment. I believe in the Divine Force innate in each individual and in Mr. Cayce’s ability to contact the source of cosmic knowledge. Since my disease is apparently progressive and is of the sort that produces irreparable damage to the tissues, I am naturally anxious to have the Physical Reading as soon as possible.”
B2. 6/23/44 “I have an arthritic condition which has been diagnosed as fibrocytis, and I have been taking eprolin, a vitamin E concentrate, for its treatment.”
