This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of July, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [5378], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in Coronet.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [5378].

3. As we examine the records here of this entity, both from astrological and earthly sojourns, there is indicated an exceptionally gifted or talented individual to do some one thing unusually well.

4. In giving, then, that which may be helpful in aiding the individual entity to make application of its abilities, all phases of possibilities, as well as the urges which may bring negative forces, must be considered.

5. Astrologically we find Venus the ruling force, with Jupiter and Saturn, with Uranus as a benevolent influence. These bring the unusual abilities by an urge in the entity. Whatever, though, the entity might choose to do, whether it was making jelly or doing a special job in a work, if the entity is given the whole time, the whole mental urges may excel, but greatly gifted in music and song and the entity should, if there is the application of self and doing the first things first, become noted or famous as a song writer.

6. As we find, then, first analyze self and what and why it would desire to make application of its abilities towards song writing. Is it merely for glorification of the own ego or is it that the ability may be used as a means of glorification of a cause or a purpose or in appreciation of the love indicated by the divine sources for the abilities indicated in the entity’s experience? Do find that which is creative, spiritually, mentally, and the result in the physical will be most satisfying, most gratifying.

7. As for the appearances in the earth, while all may not be given, these are indicated as to the pattern. For, as we find:

8. Before this the entity was in Baltimore during those periods when there were the formations of groups for what in the period was called barnstorming, or little plays, as it might be termed today. Return to that place. The entity was then in those activities, as Sally Goodwin, which made for the attempts to supply the ditties, the songs and the sayings between various groups; and thus, we find abilities as indicated, and it will be through the efforts of some one with whom the entity was associated in that activity, who is now active with a group, or one [2707]*, that the entity may be in that position of eventually becoming famous in its song writing. These, then, may be the channels through which, when there are those abilities for combinations or efforts together, there may be brought the opportunity for the entity.

9. Before that we find the entity was in the Mexican land, when there were those setting-ups of empires or the attempts by individuals to represent the Spanish land.

10. The entity was one, Hermey, who offered entertainment in dance and in vocalizing.

11. These make for urges at times in the entity’s experience for typing, or for writing certain local songs respecting periods, and these will be well for the entity to attempt, for these will be found to be soon as popular as those of states, groups, periods, activities of individual. These stress in thy song writing.

office of vocational activity, the Temple Beautiful. The entity was among those from that land, in the name of Carman, who gained through study there and application of self in its own homeland.

13. These, then, stand out as urges. Do keep to its own home in expression, though neighbors, or activities of neighboring lands, may be occasionally included.

14. Do follow through, then, with these.

15. As to the abilities of the entity, as indicated, in any field chosen the entity might succeed, provided its spiritual purpose is creative.

16. Then, especially in the song writing ye may find the greater outlet and through the efforts of the individual who was an associate in the experience before this may the opportunity come.

18. (Q) Are my husband and son and I living in the right locality for serving our best interests and the interest of those with whom we come in contact? (…, California) (A) These are not so much localities to be considered as: Are the purposes correct? These are opportune localities. But you’d do better in Baltimore.

19. (Q) How should I go about getting my songs published? (A) Read what has just been indicated.

20. (Q) How have I been previously associated with the following and how can I best help them now: My husband, […]? (A) In the Mexican land, that’s why you’re so choppy together at times. In the experience in the Egyptian land, though, the husband was then an associate but an Egyptian, not a Carpathian.

21. (Q) My son, […]? (A) In the experience before this. Train him to do the dancing - don’t do that yourself.

22. (Q) My sister-in-law, […]? (A) We don’t find the association here.

R1. 10/23/44 [5378]‘s letter: “I know you are unable to ‘keep up’ with everyone to whom you send readings but - even so - I’m confessing that I am very late in writing to thank you for mine… It’s impossible to describe the wonderful feeling I had when I finally held it in my hand. I was so excited I couldn’t read it immediately - and even after I did, I found how true it is that one must read and reread many times. There are some questions I would like to ask of you, personally, but the bulletins say you have been ill. There must be thousands who have prayed and perhaps still are praying for your speedy recovery… My husband and I are planning to do as the reading suggested - ‘return to that place’ - meaning Baltimore, Maryland. We are trying to arrange our affairs so that we may be able to do so when the war ends. The reading said, too, that to become successful as I want to be in writing music I must have the ‘right’ reason for wanting it. I’m afraid that is going to be my greatest battle because, deep in my heart I still find myself trying - or wanting - to ‘show’ people. Is that terribly wrong? I get so confused in my thinking that sometimes I believe I think too much. I will keep the Association posted as to what progress I make. I wish I knew right now what step to take first. Thank you very much for being such a fine man and for helping so many, many people, including me.”

B1. 12/6/43 Letter: “When I was in high school I started writing music - popular music. It’s good, too. I know it is. In college I majored in music. It’s easy for me to write - both the tunes and the lyrics. After 2 years, I married. Since coming to California I’ve talked with many people high in the musical world who have all said the same things, mainly that I definitely have the talent and to keep writing - not give up - some day I’ll get a ‘break’. I know they are not just being kind because a few have tried to get the songs published. One is a member of … - the other is a former musical director for … But they all say that it’s the hardest ‘game’ in the world to break into. A long time ago a little old lady in …, told my fortune…that I would become very well known musically in this country and that a middle-aged man would help me. Since I read that article in Coronet, I have been convinced that you were the person. At the time of the fortune, I took none of it seriously. So many things happened, though, as the lady said they would, that her words have remained with me for 10 years or so. A spiritualist in … said, ‘You’re going to be famous. Don’t stop writing.’ I don’t want to be famous in the sense of having people point me out as a celebrity. I just want the satisfaction of having a song published. Having just one published would help. I want to help my husband, because he is the one who has pushed me into doing what I’ve done so far. It would mean so much to him psychologically - and the financial part of it wouldn’t do any harm either.” 1. Am I correct in thinking I should continue to write music?
