This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of February, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [538], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Hugh Lynn Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:45 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [538]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, there still continues to be disturbances of the acute nature with the effects and conditions arising from “flu” and its resultant conditions upon the areas where disturbances have existed, in the pleura of the left as well as a part of the right lung.
-
This as we find continues to produce some conditions of strep through the blood supply; hence causing not only weakness but the tendency for an upsetting of the digestive forces, as well as the weakness and the lack of gaining strength, and with a little temperature arising at times.
-
In the present we would keep the inhalations of the Brandy Fumes [as in 538-34?] though we would heat or cause the temperature to be so raised as to increase the quantity of the gas that forms in the keg. This we would inhale at least three to four times each day.
-
We would give more of Calcidin as a reaction from the iodine as well as the effect of the calcium in the system, to reduce the temperatures as well as to be effective with the allaying of the inflammation along the bronchi and the tubes to the lungs. Prepare about three grains of this in an ounce of water and keep warm, taking a sip of this three, four, five times each day, or until there is the iodine reaction.
-
In the diet we would give at least twice or three times each day an egg cooked with spirits frumenti, and milk added to same.
-
Also we would continue the Beef Juice; and especially we would have a heavy broth made of fowl, with also a little of the flesh taken with same.
-
These as we find, if they are kept, should bring soon the strength and vitality to the body, producing better resistances.
-
Keep up the eliminations, to be sure, as these activities are carried out through the system.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is it well for the body to remain in bed? (A) Only so much as it remains QUIET; not necessarily so much to remain in bed, but not overactive on the feet or too much in the air, though there should be plenty of fresh air in the room at all times.
-
(Q) What is causing the pain across the back? (A) Poisons in the system and the effects of same as pressures upon the nerve forces.
This would be relieved considerably by a gentle massage given especially along that area with an equal combination of Mutton Suet, Turpentine and Camphor, - this across the small of the back, so as to aid the activity of the kidneys and the hepatic circulation between the liver and the kidneys, which will be stimulated by the use of the egg with the spirits frumenti and milk two to three times a day. This should extend across the small of the back and down the whole area of the spine, especially just between the shoulders and across the shoulders. This we would do at least every evening just before or when ready to retire.
- We are through with this Reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/18/40 Husband’s letter: “[538]‘s old trouble seemed to come back on her - she is much better - sits up most of the day but not all day - hasn’t had her feet on the ground during the whole month of Feb. Her eyes, I believe, are much better.”
R2. 2/26/40 “[538] isn’t so well but is much better. The flu seemed to stir up her old trouble. Even though the rdg. says no tubercle, she is weak and subject to infection with it - that is our biggest worry.”
R3. 4/2/40 “I was uneasy about [538] as she complained of her side. Had an awful cough and was abed for weeks - just up and down - but is alright now. Her keg of apple brandy certainly stands her in good stead.”
R4. 5/7/40 See 538-64 for continued advice in regard to her iritis.
