This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of August, 1944, in accordance with request made by the Mother - Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in Coronet Magazine.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, as a shadow, it appears. We have the body here, [5406]. As we find, there are disturbances which arise physically from injury at birth. While that being met by those responsible for the body and the soul-consciousness is being met in self, and through requirements here.

3. We find that these conditions may be materially aided. These, in the present, to be sure, are spastic paralysis, from pressure on those central portions of brain reflexes, and thus, not only portions of the locomotary centers are involved, but portions of that area supplying circulation to structural body are also involved, along one portion of the spine.

4. This will require, as we find, a great deal of prayer, a great deal of application of the tenets of truth in not only the lives making application, but in that being taught to the body in its unfoldment in mind and body.

5. Let, the gentle massage, as may be had following the use of the low Wet Cell Appliance, as would carry both Gold and Atomidine into the system alternately as eliminants, work with and through the physical portions of the emunctory circulation and glandular centers to bring help.

6. The manipulations, following the use of the Appliance daily, should be in the nature of a massage, with particular reference to the centers in the gland forces in neck, chest, abdomen, on to the pubic centers, which supply all the energies to the sympathetic nerve system. While along the spine these would be at the first, to second, to third cervical - the first, second, third, and fourth dorsal, and ninth dorsal, and through the sacral and lumbar and sacral centers. These should receive, following the use of the Appliance daily for about thirty minutes, at least fifteen to twenty minutes of gentle massage, with Cocoa-butter, with special reference to these centers.

7. After this treatment has been used for six months, then we would give the changes as may be necessary.

8. The Wet Cell Appliance, carrying Gold and Atomidine, should be made regular strength charge. The Gold (1 grain to 1 ounce of distilled water, using about three ounces in the solution) when this is used every other day, would be through the larger plate attached at the umbilical and lacteal duct center, which would be two fingers to the right of the navel center and two fingers up from that line, directly to the right. This would be according to the fingers of the mother, not long ways, just fingers side by side. The smaller plate would be attached at the lumbar axis, see? Fourth lumbar center.

9. When using the Atomidine (atomic iodine), the proportions would be one ounce of Atomidine and two ounces of distilled water. This connection should be at the lumbar and lacteal duct center, through the larger plate, but the smaller plate would be at the fourth dorsal.

10. This Appliance would be used about thirty minutes each day, one day with the Gold, the next day with the Atomidine.

11. Follow this each day with the massage, as indicated, using these periods when the massages are being given as the period for meditation and prayer, and for the conversation about the spiritual life to the unfolding mind and body.

12. Ready for questions.

13. (Q) Was there a cerebral hemorrhage? What part of the brain was affected and to what extent? (A) As has been indicated, this was from pressure created at the birth of the entity, and this has been a gradual pressure on reflexes.

14. (Q) Why can he not talk, and will he learn to do so? (A) As has been indicated, the pressures are upon the reflexes of the central and sympathetic nervous systems.

Follow these instructions. Do this, as has been given, for six months. Do change the solutions and recharge the Appliance every thirty days, and we will give the changes in the six months.

15. We are through with this Reading.

R1. 4/9/45 Letter from [5406]‘s mother: “We were indeed sorrowful to hear of EC’s death. It is good to know there is an Eternity ahead for such as he, and that the lives of many will be enriched and have been already because of him… If at any time in your research you find special help for spastic paralysis or cerebral palsy, I should especially be interested…”

R2. 8/1/49 Report requested by GD.

R3. 8/29/49 Letter from mother: ”…My husband was overseas and I was not able to follow through, and (as we would surely have done had he been with me) find a doctor who would help. At that time we were giving [5406] chiropractic treatments. The doctor read EC’s reading and cooperated as to that part of the reading. He [5406] was having treatments 3 times a week and I followed that with the cocoa butter massage every day. When I think back I know that the chiropractic treatments gave our son his whole chance, second to prayer, for whatever development has come. The doctor was splendid. She massaged the whole body and did a great deal more than the average chiropractor. I can’t think any osteopath could improve upon her technique. She started treating him when he was three. When he was four he walked. When she took him his head lay back on his shoulder. He could not lift it. Today his neck and head are erect and strong.

“On the advice of a physician friend we took [5406] to Dr. Phelps, the noted doctor in Baltimore. Imagine our joy when he thought our son could be 90% perfect. He recommended a school. So, for 2 years he stayed at this school under Dr. Phelps’ supervision - with the result that at the end of that time they recommended perpetual care for our son. He did not respond to treatment.

“I had seen Dr. [1125]‘s name (osteopath) in one of the A.R.E. Bulletins… We (refusing to give up) took [5406] and EC’s reading to Dr. [1125]. She was most gracious and treated him for a year. But she, too, finally said she could do no more. She had helped him, but he still cannot speak so we can understand him.

“Since then we have investigated neuro-surgery and psychiatry, electro-encephalogram, and have been told there’s nowhere else to go, nothing else to do.

“It was impossible to use the gold and Atomidine, for the child would not have been still - he could not understand - and, well, it was just impossible. I would have done it had the doctor been willing to help. But I could not do it alone. As it stands now our son will have to be placed in an institution…”

R4. 9/1/49 GD referred above report to HLC and wrote [5406]‘s mother accordingly, feeling that through the A.R.E. Advisory Board of Physicians it could still be arranged for the Wet Cell Appliance treatment to be tried.

R5. 1/1/50 Letter from mother: “I’m so anxious for you to understand all the reasons why we have not been able to follow through, after all, with the treatments for our son… We were thrilled by your gracious offer to furnish the Wet Cell Appliance as a loan… From your end it may seem that we are giving up prematurely… Life presents certain things to us which must be done, and we shall have to work them out as seems best, praying all the while for God’s guidance. Won’t you sometimes lift your hearts also in our behalf?”

Can he be completely cured of this condition, if he is? What is the reason he cannot talk and will he learn to do so? Can anything be done to help him? Will there be a mental deficiency? Toilet training has not been accomplished. Helpful suggestions will be appreciated. Tonsils are chronically red and swollen. How can this be corrected? Would occupational therapy be advisable at this time? To what extent will he be able to develop into normalcy? Is it advisable to place him in an institution? Please give reasons for or against this.
