This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of August, 1944, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [5408], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by wife and [1663].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Grace Premo, Stenos.]
Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, N.C.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here [5408].
-
Now, as we find, there are disturbances here which have, for long periods, prevented the better physical functioning of the body. These, as we find, have to do with the activity of the blood supply and eliminating forces of the body, or the functioning of the liver, as related to gall duct, or gall supply for digestion and purifying blood stream. Here we have one gall duct almost choked by sediment, rather than stone, though the sediment is stony in its consistency.
-
As we find, so long as there is no temperature, there may be the possibility of eliminating this without operative measures. Though operative measures would be severe upon the body, these applications, as we find, may be done with less severity to the body, so that these may eliminate, dependent upon the response of the body to the applications and as to how sincere and how consistent and persistent they are in making these applications.
-
First, we would give as foods, only liquids, semi-liquids, and those that are body-supplying, but easily assimilated.
-
Then we would begin first, and apply, for at least three hours each day, for five days in succession, Glyco-Thymoline Packs, over the liver and gall duct areas. Use at least three to four thicknesses of cotton cloth saturated with the Glyco-Thymoline. Then apply a heavy pad of hot salt over same. After this has been used, gently massage - not so as to rupture - not so as to displace - but so as to cause full absorption of Peanut Oil and Olive Oil, equal portions, into that area and through the abdomen.
-
After the five days, rest a day, and then begin with Castor Oil Packs. Use at least three thicknesses of flannel, saturated - not just pouring on but saturated with Castor Oil, and after covering with [oil] cloth to prevent soiling of linen, apply an electric pad. Be very careful. These should not be used more than an hour at the time, but if these are done twice a day for at least three days in succession it would be well. Give small doses of Olive Oil, but increase it gradually to all the body is able to take. Then, after the three days, rest one day. Then begin again, but continue to give the Olive Oil at least 1/2 to 1 teaspoonful, two to three to four times a day.
-
Thus we should eliminate - empty - the whole of the greater duct. Do that.
-
Should there be nausea or temperature, operate.
-
We are through with this Reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/7/44 GD’s answer to [5408]‘s wife’s questions re. detailed directions: “1. Use a small Pillow case, as for a baby pillow, and use sufficient salt to make a pad about half an inch to an inch thick. Table salt is alright (Morton’s iodized, preferably), or the coarse salt if you can get it - such as used by meat packers. The salt should be heated in the oven - as in a biscuit pan - and poured into the pillow case and pinned or basted at the end to keep it from spilling. When the pad has cooled the salt may be emptied and reheated or the pad itself may be put in the biscuit pan in the oven, just so you are careful not to get it so hot as to burn the cloth. In the winter time, of course, it could be laid over a hot register, or the like. When the pad is hot, an electric pad might be laid over it to keep it so and not have to reheat, though just the hot salt must be preferable since the reading called for it.
“2. Put half and half Peanut Oil and Olive Oil - mix a tablespoonful of each in a saucer to begin, then make more as you need it. Massage each time just what will be absorbed by the body through the skin - or keep rubbing it in until the skin won’t take any more and begins to accumulate on the outside.
“3. A small dose of Olive Oil would be about a quarter teaspoonful. Begin this when the Castor Oil Packs are begun, and take this dosage about every two hours through the day (between meals, preferably). If it begins to regurgitate, decrease the amount - take it just a sip at the time - but keep on taking. If it goes alright, the next day increase to a full teaspoonful every two hours, and so on - leaving the dosage at a teaspoonful if it agrees. Whenever it begins to come up in the mouth, then decrease the dosage but continue taking - and do this from then on, not stopping when you rest from the Packs, but continuing until the gall duct is emptied. Even then it would be well to continue the olive oil periodically, as the readings say that it is well for almost everyone to have periods of taking it. (That reminds me, I think I’ll take another course of it.)
“I hope you’ve already gotten started and that I’ve made myself (and the reading) clear to you. Love, and hoping for the best…”
R2. 10/44 Letter from [5408]‘s wife to GD (while EC was ill in Roanoke,Va.): ”…Since my ‘precious doctor’ is so far away (Mr. Cayce), I am writing you for some more information if I am to keep my patient in good spirits. Nothing is so depressing as gall trouble, I learn from all who have had it.
“The history thus far is this:
“1. First course of treatment completed. The glyco packs cleared the complexion very noticeably.
“2. Duke Hospital gave him the gall bladder test which corroborated ‘our’ diagnosis. By the way, I gave Mr. Cayce’s diagnosis to Dr. Nickleson to read. This interests us as a point in research doesn’t it? When [5408] realized that it was a choice between an operation or Mr, Cayce’s treatment, he came back determined to follow faithfully the treatment.
“3. Completed the second (Cayce) treatment faithfully. Complexion better.
“Now the next step is for a little more information. Since [5408] is nearly as thin as Ghandi, I must have it too in order to take the risk. (He is so afraid with winter coming on, of pneumonia). Fear plays such a part in these cases. Here is what I need to know:
“1. Have the treatments loosened any of the sediment in the gall duct? (Just a 10 minute check up would help us SO MUCH.)
“2. Just how many treatments would in all probability be required? Several months - a dozen - or 20 - 50 - or a year?
“3. When repeating, do you start each time with the glyco or with the castor oil? (Five days glyco - 3 days castor oil).
“We want to avoid an operation if possible, and this information will help me in MORALE building. My love and prayer is that Mr. Cayce gains strength and health wherever he is…”
R3. 10/28/44 P.S. to a form letter from GD to [5408]‘s wife: ”…We would suggest that [5408] continue to use the suggestions given in his reading, completing the treatment as outlined - these may be carried out in series - beginning each time with all suggestions given.
“The indications are that Mr. Cayce will not return home for several months in consideration for his health.
“Kindly bear in mind that this manner of taking care of our correspondence is necessary in order to meet our present financial needs. Thank you!…”
R4. 1/26/45 Letter from [5408]‘s wife to GC and GD: ”…How lonely the world seems with the going of our beloved friend, Mr. Cayce. Not any of us who knew him even slightly, but feels the deepest, personal privation in not being able to hear his voice and feel the warmth of his Christlike love.
“Personally, my regret that I knew him so short a time is deep and painful.
“My sister [3250] and I join with his household in a community and fellowship of sympathy - knowing how he will be missed. But knowing also that you are comforted in the thought that he is still a co-laborer with God in God’s vast plans of good for the world…
“P.S. We will be interested in the further plans of the Association…”
Background
Background
B1. 7/3/44 “As I was losing weight, feeling weak, suffering gas pains and burning sensations in the stomach, I went to … for a diagnosis. It seems from the X-ray and other examinations that the trouble is connected with the gall duct.
“Treatment given then: Concentrated Yeast Tablets as vitamin source. Soda and Magnesia - 50% - 20 Gr. Powders, as Hyper Acid treatment. I do not regain strength or weight.”
B2. 7/20/44 [5408]‘s wife’s letter: “Here is our problem: Should my husband have to have his gall bladder removed, as his physician seems to think, the strength to undergo an operation is what we are faced with. He has lost 20 lbs. and is very thin and weak. I don’t want to do anything drastic - neither does he - until we have had your diagnosis of his case and suggested treatment. We want to follow your advice as given in the reading.” 1. Is an operation advised or can condition be cured by treatment? 2. Is the gall duct causing the trouble?
