EC: Yes, we have the body here. Now, we find there are abnormal conditions. These, we find, are of a specific nature, produced principally by an injury, and the conditions will be better corrected in the manner in which it is being attended than it would by an operation; for the condition is such that from the upper dorsal and cervical region there has been such impingement as to prevent the normal flow of energy to the head, and, as the natural trend of the body was to attempt to adjust itself, the condition then drew, through the effects produced upon the nerve and muscular system, the effect as is produced in eyes and in face. The effects of conditions as have been produced in system regarding the conditions as affect the sympathetic and cerebro-spinal system, through the action of the pressure of the central nerve force, also affects that of the hypogastric and pneumogastric plexus. Hence the condition as has existed regarding the digestion, and nausea as has been produced in the body, causing, then, the first spasmodic effect, or tic, or twitching that began. This, then, reacting through the system, brought about those conditions as do exist.
-
Then, we would continue at the present with those treatments as being administered, and when the full adjustment is made in the dorsal and cervical, we will find much change and the near normal condition brought back to the body.
-
In the diet as would be necessary for the impoverishment as is existent in the blood supply, we would add more of those of the juices of meats, especially of calf liver and of cod liver oil. These will assist the body in overcoming the tendency towards the condition of anemia, counteracting with the forces of the body in replenishing and rebuilding nerve energy for the system. Do that. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How long did this condition exist in our boy before we were aware of it? (A) Two and one-half years.
-
(Q) When will there be a change in his condition? (A) When the adjustments are complete in the effect as is being produced in the upper or the central nerve system, to the head, and the relief from the pressure created on the hypogastric plexus.
The dosage of the oil should be at least three spoonsful each day, and there should be at least two meals each week of mostly of the liver. This prepared, not with grease, but rather with vegetable OIL, and steamed.
- (Q) When did this injury occur that caused this condition? (A) Three years ago. Six years old then. We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/20/29 Aunt’s letter: ”…Am writing to tell you about our boy [5409] and also to ask if and when you can give my mother a reading…
“As to our boy [5409]: Anyone, Mr. Cayce, that is inclined to be at all skeptical about this sort of work ought to know our case, for you sure did read him exactly as he is. [5409] took sick in November (last). Doctors said sinus trouble, bad tonsils and adenoids. When he got better, we felt he would soon be alright. The left eye was effected, bulged a little. Doctor said that was caused by sinus, but it continued to get worse. Then he had the flu, suffered terribly with his head. We brought him to Dr. Beatty (head specialist) to be operated on in March. They found a growth instead of adenoids, back of the eye (they think). Had a piece of it analyzed and report was a sarcoma tumor. It has closed the nasal air passages. They urged an operation and radium used immediately. Mr. Cayce, we are afraid of the operation; it is in such a difficult place. We waited to hear from you. You say treatments are better than the operation. So now we are taking him to Dr. Jacob Farrand (chiropractor). He knows you and your work, speaks very highly of you. He found the same misplacement you had said. We wondered if you meant the treatments would help to get rid of the growth? We are also taking him to a man who removed growths by the signs (in astrology). Mr. Cayce, we are trying to avoid an operation. Do you know any more from other experiences that might help us? The boy is growing better in every way except the growth. We thank you for your help and kind interest and hope I may hear from you soon.
“I forgot to tell you he fell on his back three years ago on a cement floor - some four or five feet…”
R2. 8/3/29 EC wrote that he would be glad to check up on the case whenever the doctor felt he would like to have it done.
R3. 6/12/29 Aunt’s letter: ”…I have lost the letter or reading on [5409]. I showed it to so many people that I have mislaid it. I am just sick about it. Would you please send me another? I am so sorry…”
R4. 6/28/29 Duplicate copy of the reading was sent.
R5. 7/2/29 Aunt’s letter in answer to Cayce Hospital Questionnaire: ”…In reply to your letter of inquiry concerning [5409], we have followed just as near as possible Mr. Cayce’s instructions in the reading. He has been taking chiropractic treatments regularly since, but as yet we do not see much change. The eye is still about the same and his breathing is very difficult, especially when he sleeps. Do you not think we should see some change by this time, in his breathing, if the treatments are going to have any effect? Do you think using any kind of lights on the head and face would help? Another chiropractor has suggested that. He takes his codliver oil and seems to have a good appetite most of the time. If you can suggest anything to do that might help we will be very grateful…”
R6. GD’s note: On 6/3/29 EC had written Dr. J. H. Farrand: ”…I notice from a letter that I have had from Miss […] that you are treating the [5409] little boy. We will want to make another reading on this some time in the near future. Possibly you will be able to assist her in outlining questions you would like to have asked in the reading. I appreciate your interest…”
R7. 7/12/29 Dr. J. H. Farrand’s letter: ”…[5409] is showing improvement but I wonder if there is anything else to do to relieve labored breathing and congestion in roof of mouth…”
R8. 7/17/29 Dr. Thomas B. House’s letter (M.D., Chief of Staff, Cayce Hospital): ”…Replying to yours of July 2nd, will say, to be very candid with you, the proper thing to do with said patient will be to send him to the Cayce Hospital where we know these treatments, as suggested by Mr. Cayce, will be carried out. We are unable, we feel, to make satisfactory suggestions to you in these treatments unless we can see and examine the patient for a period of time in the Cayce Hospital at Virginia Beach…”
R9. 9/3/29 Aunt’s letter in answer to another Cayce Hospital Questionnaire: ”…In reply to your letter of the 22nd, we have followed very closely the instructions given us by Mr. Cayce for our boy [5409], but with no improvement in his condition. In fact, he continued to grow worse. We have changed to other treatments now which we think have retarded the growth for the time being. We do not exactly understand what you mean by a ‘check reading’. We would very much like to have another reading but we feel we cannot afford it - have had so much expense with no results. We will be very glad and thankful if you can in any way help us. We appreciate the interest you have shown…”
R10. 9/19/29 Cayce Hospital letter via Secretary: ”…We have your letter of September 3rd and are very sorry to know there is no improvement in your boy’s condition. You state that you do not know what is meant by a check reading. By that we mean another reading, checking-up on the physical condition. We would suggest that you write to Mr. Edgar Cayce direct, telling him the condition of your boy and asking his advice…”

B1. 4/23/29 Aunt’s letter: ”…As we are very anxious to secure a reading for our boy [5409] as soon as possible, am making my appeal direct to you. If you can assure us an immediate reading, will send the amount you ask for a reading ($20.00) immediately. If we must await our turn it will be too late, we are afraid, for the time is short. Hoping you may see your way clear to grant us this favor and wishing you continued success in this great work you are doing for humanity, I am very sincerely…”
B2. 5/12/29 Aunt’s letter: ”…How long did this condition exist in our boy before we were aware of it? The method we are using now to cure him, will it prove successful or should we give up and have the operation? When will there be a change in his condition? I thank you…”
