This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of August, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [5420].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Drs. Lydic and Wigal.]
Time of Reading 3:45 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [5420] - this we have had before. Here we find conditions such, that it might be JUSTLY said, “I told you so,” or the attempt to use that which would be MAYBE just as good.
-
In the conditions existent, we find these conditions have arisen: With the character of the manipulation or massage given, with the kind of applications used, conditions have become well disturbed, without an outlet for same through their normal channels. This, again, [is] a very good illustration of the difference between osteopathy and chiropractic, or massage when necessary and the abilities to awaken incentives through osteopathic treatments AND adjustments, which - if properly done - coincide with that NECESSARY MOST within the body-physical to create proper relations in system. Then we find, as is seen existent, that the system - mesenteric system - has become so clogged with poisons, and with that of toxics from the system, as to have pressure, especially along the diaphragm line, where an unequaled circulation is produced by this gradual pressure produced in system. Lower limbs become especially tired, and languidness and distress is the result, with - of mornings - an uneasy headache, yet when activities on feet these at times disappear, at others become more centralized along the base of the brain and through the shoulders. Pains are indicated at times following these along the right side, especially down in the caecum and that portion of the body.
-
Will the body follow out that as has been outlined by those suggestions given, though we would alter somewhat now that as given - for we would begin first with the manipulations, thoroughly given over the system, as to RELAX the body, before any corrections would be made. These, as we find, would require two, three or four deep treatments. Then we would, for at least two or three treatments - every third day - evacuate the system, through the colonic irrigations. THEN begin with those of the medicinal properties as has been given, to tone up or to clarify the system.
-
We will find, too, that a gentle rub along the spine, especially of morning, if a cold shower will be taken - this of sufficient intensity to create the proper relationships or frictions along the spine - these will aid materially.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Why flushes around face? (A) The circulation, as has been indicated, from pressure that comes from the toxic forces in system, as cause the flushes of blood through improper distribution. Heart’s action would be found at such times to be tricky or faulty also; but not any trouble there - don’t get that!
-
(Q) Why did body not continue to improve under Reilly’s treatment? (A) As has been outlined. Something else won’t be JUST as good! If it had been, we would have given it!
-
(Q) What is the matter with body? (A) Hardheadedness, most!
-
(Q) What does the future of the woolen business hold out for body? (A) This, as related to the physical forces, has little to do - but these may be made to be worthwhile, provided in the application of self as respecting business - the self is expended in the same way and manner as it thinks about other businesses that it sees people succeeding in. One may succeed in the woolen business, if the individual be so inclined, as well as in the shoestring or in stock business. These depend upon the application and that expended by the individual. NOTHING may be obtained without effort.

We are through.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/12/30 EC’s letter: ”…We are enclosing the information as gotten yesterday. I hope that this will enable you to get started on the proper lines for bringing about the normal conditions for your body.
“I offer merely as a suggestion, Mr. [5420], that you call on Dr. Theodore Berger, 77 Park Avenue, New York City. Dr. Brill may be just as good, or better, but Dr. Berger is well acquainted with this work, as he has had information for himself as well as applied it for others. That’s why I suggest him.
“I am in hopes that you will get along nicely. If you don’t do as good as you think you should, why not come to the Hospital and spend a week or ten days? Then you might be assured that the suggestions would be carried out just as they were given, and you would get the results promised.
“I want to thank you again for offering to have a suit made for me. I am enclosing, herewith, the measurements. I think this will be just what you want.
“Thanking you, and hoping we may have been of service, I am, sincerely…”
R2. 8/26/30 Dr. Berger’s letter: ”…Mr. [5420] was in for treatment this morning and again I must express my appreciation of your confidence in me. He had his reading with him and I went over him in detail. You certainly hit the nail on the head in the matter of his being over-treated. He has been going to a physical culture institute here in the city and has been getting treatments far too vigorous for him. He is coming in to me twice a week for a while and I am sure we will have no trouble in remedying his troubles. Also, he is not carrying out the reading as to the sperm oil and gin prescription, but will begin immediately. I will try to follow everything as directed…”
R3. 9/30 Letter in answer to Cayce Hospital Questionnaire:
”…After my first reading I went to Reilly and felt very well for two weeks but after that didn’t feel right. Sometime afterwards I received a second reading for check-up and found, as I thought, I was over-treated, so I now go to Dr. Theodore Berger and am beginning to feel better. I did neglect the medicine, as I find it very difficult to take medicine one half hour before a meal. Before relating further the continuation of a languid feeling in the morning and other little ailments, I prefer to give Dr. Berger a chance, as I intend to be at his office no less than once a week. I have had four treatments already and will continue and advise you in about one month of my progress. Assuring you of my confidence in the outcome if I do my part, I remain with best wishes to the Association…”
R4. 9/30 Letter to EC: ”…Dear Judge: I want to thank you for the check-up on myself and accordingly have been to see Dr. Berger several times and will continue treatments for at least once a week. I am beginning to feel better already and have great confidence as to my future betterment if I follow suggestions…”
R5. 9/19/30 EC’s letter: ”…I am certainly glad to know that you are feeling some better and that the check-up is proving to be of some use. I am sure you will find Dr. Berger a very fine man, and a very capable one. I trust you will continue to get yourself in shape.
“Mr. [5420], I want to thank you for the suit - which I have received. I appreciate very, very much the kindly thought and the executing of it in the way you did. I appreciate more than I can tell you the manner in which some of my friends, as yourself, take me personally into consideration in these things. While I want to use my life and my efforts in service to my fellow man without thought of compensation, as far as it is possible, yet such consideration as this is bound to be felt.
“Again thanking you, and trusting you will come to see us when you can, and continue to get yourself in proper shape, I am, sincerely…”
R6. 5/22/31 Mr. [5420] sent a contribution of $120.00 to the new A.R.E.
R7. 5/30/31 EC wrote a thank you note, inviting him to the organization meeting on June 6th: ”…We are hoping for the new organization to be closer in touch with each individual that is interested in the distributing of data, or seeing that others get results from their seeking information through these channels. Not that we expect to be exploited in any manner, but in a simple manner we wish to acquaint those interested with what is going on…”
