This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of February, 1930, in accordance with request made by self Mrs. [5477] via friend Mrs. [5615].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 10:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Texas. (Physical Suggestions)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here. Now, we find there are abnormal conditions. These, in some manners, have become acute through MENTAL, or through the condition or state of mental being, through misunderstandings as have come - RECENT. These affect directly the physical being, through the mental attributes of the body and through the nerve effect produced upon the system.
-
In the nerve forces, we find there are those of that nature that produces impingements in the system in such a manner as to keep distraughtness through portions of the system, especially as is related to the assimilating, and the system as regarding eliminations of the mental and physical nature in the body. These, as we find, affect directly those of the sacral, lumbar and coccyx region, and sympathetically those of the brachial region. Hence the variations in the heart’s action, as well as the tendency to overact upon the GLANDS as are affected through same, and the CIRCULATION in the upper portion of the head.
-
In the physical organs, these show sympathetic distress, as is seen in the manner in which the coordinations in eliminations in the system are affected.
-
In meeting, then, the needs of the conditions for THIS body: First we would prepare as this for medicinal properties for the system, see?
-
To 4 ounces of simple syrup, add:
Tincture Valerian…1/2 ounce, Elixir Calisaya…1/2 ounce, 10% Solution Iodide of Potassium…20 minims.
Dissolve 1 ounce Rock Candy in 2 ounces Spirits Frumenti (90%) and add to solution. Also Tincture of Capsici 2 minims. The dose of this would be half a teaspoonful 3 times each day.
-
When the full quantity of this has been taken, then we would change for the effects as may be created in the system.
-
The diet during this period should be those principally, of mornings, of gruels, fruits, and those in the noon of salads - nut salads, fruit salads, vegetable salads - lunch. Of evening, those of the nature as are more BLOOD building.
-
Keep the eliminations open; that is, the activity of the bowels, or the system in the alimentary canal’s elimination.
-
In the change, we would prepare then as this:
To 8 ounces distilled water, add:
Mandrake Root…1/2 ounce, Indian Turnip…1/4 ounce, Wild Ginseng…1 ounce.
Reduce this by slow boiling to 1/2 the quantity. Strain, and while still warm - but not hot - add grain alcohol 1/2 ounce, with 1/4 dram Balsam of Tolu cut in same. Add, also, Oil of Sassafras 4 minims. The dose of this should be half a teaspoonful twice each day, and during the whole period that THIS is taken, the manipulations - osteopathically - should adjust those conditions in coccyx, lumbar and sacral.
-
To change the flow, or menstrual periods as cause disturbance, we would use warm douches in which - to the half a gallon of water a teaspoonful of Glyco-Thymoline is used. This should not be taken, of course, DURING the period - but before and immediately following the stoppage of flow. During period, hot packs may be used across the sacral region, and in same have a few drops of turpentine, either in the WET pack or in the salt pack. A drop to 6 ounces of salt (heavy salt).
-
Do that, and we will find that after at least sixteen osteopathic treatments - Better were they given each day, and better were the body under the supervision of one where these may be followed very closely. Do that, but - we will find - in six to eight weeks a nearer normal force, and the nearer normal activities throughout the whole system. The body may then conceive, if it so desires. We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/17/30 Friend [5615]‘s letter: ”…[5477], my little friend, is doing splendidly and every once in a while she takes her reading out of the drawer and kisses it. The druggist had to send to New York for some of the ingredients for one of the prescriptions and as [5477] has just finished the first medicine the arrival of the second one is timely. I arranged with the osteopath for treatments for her - made her promise to stop smoking (as I have done) prepared daily menus, and I join her occasionally for afternoon naps. I know if at the end of two months she conceives and at last gives birth to a boy - the middle name will be Cayce - she will be so happy…”
R2. 3/19/30 Letter in answer to Cayce Hospital questionnaire: ”…I appreciated very much your letter which I received only this morning and agree with you that cooperation in this, as with most things, is to be desired.
“I would be frank with you. I have followed and continued to do so conscientiously every prescription and order as clearly as possible, and as a result I have gained approximately ten pounds, have regular eliminations daily, feel calm and composed, much less nervous, sleep well, and there is an expansion of the diaphragm and torso.
“I hope I have interpreted the reading correctly and so as to have your assurance I will tell you exactly what I have done.
“My first act was to take (a) the bottle of medicine along with the osteopathic treatments; (b) the second prescription
- also osteopathic treatments, all of these treatments being under the direction of one man. Having now finished both of these prescriptions.
“I am now on the sixteenth osteopathic treatment - this number suggested by you as being perhaps all that was necessary. However, I shall continue them until I conceive. I am expecting my menstruation the 26th and hope I am disappointed and do not see it. If I do menstruate I am convinced this will be the last time, as I have the utmost faith in Dr. Cayce…”
R3. 7/30 Friend [5615]‘s letter: ”…I am at the home of my friend [5477] who you recall had her reading February 4th. She was greatly disappointed and has written for a check reading in response to cooperation from your Secretary. However, contrary to the splendid system you maintain, she has had no reply. I have fears for her - for she believes in you so completely and with such faith and now to have nearly four months pass - no results - no replies from you - she is beginning to be despondent. Is there anything I could do?…”
R4. 8/15/30 Cayce Hospital Research Department Letter: ”…We were very glad to receive your kind letter of March 19th setting forth the progress you had made in regard to the application of the suggestions given in your reading of February 4th. We know if everyone follows the suggestions carefully and diligently, as you have, they cannot fail to see good results.
“If you have anything further to report in regard to yourself that might be valuable as a record, we should be very glad to hear from you further…”
R5. GD’s note: There is no record of correspondence from Mrs. [5477] requesting a subsequent reading. This was during the last days of the Cayce Hospital and Mr. Cayce’s appointments were at least six months in advance. Perhaps she did write and the correspondence got lost in the hub-bub of many changes which took place during the next few months.

B1. 10/29 Letter: ”…Through my friendship with David and Lucille Kahn and hearing the many praises they have sung of you, I am writing this letter with the sincere hope that you may be able to advise me. I have been married four years and it is my deep disappointment that I have been unable to have a baby. I want very much a physical reading and anything you may tell me regarding the reason why I have not conceived or any way in which I may do so…”
B2. 1/30 Friend [5615]‘s letter: ”…My friend [5477] who is awaiting patiently her reading on February 4th, has not been so well. Hers is a physical reading and I hope that nothing will interfere with her reading on that date. She has waited for over four months and I, too, since what you have told me has meant so much to me, am very anxious to know what is the matter with her…”
