This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th St., Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of March, 1931, in accordance with request made by her mother, Mrs. […] through Miss [349], Mrs. A. M. Pope and Mrs. [959].

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [5483], and those conditions that surround the body.

2. In the considering of betterments for the physical and the mental forces of the body, the conditions necessarily must be considered as they exist in the present. There needs be, for the proper consideration for aiding the body-physical, something of the history, or the conditions that have existed as the body has developed to the age or conditions that surround the body. Had these been considered as the developments began, there should have been a near normal body by the second cycle. Since the passing of the third cycle, these make for a different condition then to be met for an improvement in the mental reactions for the body; for the beginning of the condition exists from those conditions, environs and circumstances surrounding the body as it developed before the birth. In especially that condition where properties and conditions that were lacking in the body as developed, made for a change in the central nerve supply and nerve system that made for the undevelopment of those conditions in the upper portion of the body, though not related in that condition or period to the mental forces; but with the retarding of those developments in the imaginative forces, where cerebro-spinal and sympathetic especially makes connection for those in the central nerve system as related to the organs of the sensory system, and the necessity of changing those reactions that occurred in the vibrations that were brought about in periods to those glands that affect both genitation and the activities to the brain forces, through those of that gland at the base of the brain - in the 1st and 2nd cervical area - acting with those of the medulla oblongata in the brain’s reaction itself; we have not an atrophy, but a SMOOTHING of the brains themselves in their activity WITH the developments.

3. Now, to act WITH the physical conditions of the body, we will find it will become necessary to make those proper connections in the cerebro-spinal centers - especially in the upper dorsal and the whole of the cervical area - that make for the nominal flow of blood forces that act both as upbuilding and of removing the used forces in system, and supply to those glands themselves that operate through system from those glands in the genitive system, with those at base of brain, as well as those in the head themselves. These should be kept COORDINATING one WITH another; that is, the vibrations in the system - see?

4. As these vibrations and those connections are made in the cerebro-spinal and sympathetic system (the corrections we would make osteopathically), the vibrations we would set with a low form of electrical forces carrying into the system the Chloride of Gold, alternated with Nitrate of Silver - which puts stamen in the nerves themselves AS RELATED TO the glands of the system.

5. In these changes we will find first these conditions to become existent: There will be a change in the body’s reactions at the menstrual periods. Then there will be the nausea as follows with same - but these reactions we will find, while will be gradual in the aiding of creating an equilibrium and a balance in system, will aid to bring about a condition in the physical and material body as to make for a more active, more worth while, a more reasonable and a more reasoning forces within the activities of this body, [5483].

6. These batteries, or low form of electricity, we will find that in supplying the gold - this should be applied at least once each week, applying the small anode (first) to the 1st and 2nd cervical center, then the larger anode (which passes through the gold) applied to the umbilicus in the upper and to the right portion of same - that we may have those changed vibrations direct to the central nervous reaction from that portion of system.

7. In the application when the Nitrate of Silver is used, we will apply the small anode (first) to the upper and to the left side of umbilicus - see? and the larger anode (carrying the silver) to the 4th LUMBAR center. This should be at least once each week, but at least be two days between the applications of those vibrations for same - see?

8. These should come from the PLAIN wet appliance, NOT charged, - for as they CHARGE themselves they will carry the proper vibrations for the system.

9. We WOULD - after the use of same for three to four weeks - make a new solution, both in the vials carrying the solutions and the jars from which the vibrations emanate.

10. We would also give internally (Now, this will not change from those things that have been given at present) the gold made in THIS solution: Take 15 grains Chloride of Gold, add to 15 OUNCES of DISTILLED water. Keep this as one solution.

11. Take 10 grains Bromide of Soda, add to 10 ounces of distilled water.

12. Each day as the body is ready to rest or to retire, give 3 drops (in the beginning) of the gold solution and 5 drops of the Bromide solution - that is, the Bromide of Soda - in half a glass of water. Do not mix until they are prepared to be taken as medicinal properties - see?

13. Keep the intestinal tract open.

14. In the applications for the MENTAL forces in the body, as these changes come about, we will find that the suggestions as are given to the body - both in a normal state and especially as the body rests - will be much more responsive will they awaken WITHIN the body those of the SPIRITUAL ABILITIES of a body. These should be given in a positive, but not in a forceful manner - that is, insisting or MAKING - so that it becomes rote! but rather as that NECESSARY, which must be felt as much by the one giving suggestions as one feeling them; for without the giving in the proper manner there CANNOT be the proper reception. Ready for questions.

15. (Q) Will she ever have complete control of her nerves, so that she can live at home? (A) We should find that, with these applications that have been outlined, within six to nine moons this should be possible.

16. (Q) Is there any special line of study or work that she can be trained in? (A) This, as we find, while will be necessary as the reactions come, these had BEST be followed more closely with that as develops WITHIN the BODY’S forces itself - see? that is, as the body mentally and physically is awakened to the potential forces within SELF, these will seek to find expression in the various fields of expression ABOUT a DEVELOPING body and mind.

17. (Q) What has caused her tooth to fall out? Will she lose others the same way? (A) If the conditions exist as caused this, from the lack of the circulation through the upper portion as has been indicated - this one of the first BEGINNINGS, and while this a long ways from the beginnings, yet these are as signs or marks OF that as has been indicated. With the releasing of the pressures, and stimulating those that cause the feeling out of nerve centers towards their proper connections, these conditions SHOULD disappear. Otherwise, there may be the necessity for local applications.

18. (Q) How often should osteopathic treatments be given? (A) Tuesdays and Thursdays, or that ratio.

19. (Q) What is condition of eyes? Does she need glasses? (A) As may be seen from disturbances in the cerebro-spinal, with those of the sympathetic system through the body as related to the sensory organism, these are dimmed or hindered. While under the present or existent conditions it would be rather hard to fit, or to prepare glasses - LATER, in thirty to sixty days, these should be much easier done.

20. (Q) What happened when the body was eight months old? (A) That severing of those forces in the pineal’s reaction, as caused by that that PRODUCED the retention of energies to the upper portion of body, producing those of the dryness and the conditions that came about the throat and the head, as well as the contraction in the nervous system.

21. (Q) Are there any other suggestions? (A) Follow these as outlined for the present. Then, in sixty to ninety days, we would give those changes and the necessary changes for the BETTERED conditions - or bettering OF conditions for the body, [5483]. We are through for the present.

R1. 3/27/31 Mother’s letter: ”…We are very anxious to start the treatment. I have every hope for improvement. The ‘reading’ certainly did seem to describe her condition, so now that it is found, no doubt, if not too late, the cure will be effective…”

R2. 4/29/31 EC’s letter: ”…I am sorry indeed that we have been so long in getting the Appliance ready for Miss [5483]. When the Cayce Hospital was closed all our materials were left there, and we had to make arrangements to get such materials in small quantities. Today we are forwarding this Appliance directly to Dr. Elisha T. Kirk, as it is to be applied under his direction. Dr. Kirk was here Monday. He had information for his own little girl, and seems to be very much interested. I feel that we will have his hearty cooperation in the carrying out of the instructions for each one of the patients Mrs. Pope may carry to him. I went over very carefully with Dr. Kirk the directions for attaching the Appliance, and I am sure there will be no difficulty in that respect. I have written Mrs. Pope that we are sending the Appliance to Dr. Kirk direct. Since there are chemicals used with the Battery, we feel that it is very much better for the application of these treatments to come under his supervision, so that he can watch the results much more satisfactorily. We are sending the bill to you, and the Appliance will be your property - only being used by the doctor in carrying out the treatment for your daughter. Both Mrs. Pope and Dr. Kirk inform me that [2253], [another abnormal child at Mrs. Pope’s Rose Hill School], is showing improvement, the first in several years. This in itself is very wonderful, and I just hope that you will soon see results in your daughter’s case.

“Trusting the delay has not caused you too much anxiety, and assuring you of our desire to be of help, I am sincerely…”

R3. 4/29/31 EC’s letter to Dr. Elisha T. Kirk, D.O.: ”…We are sending you by today’s express the Battery for Miss [5483] with the instructions enclosed. The Chloride of Gold solution - one ampule - you will put in 15 ounces distilled water to be used with Battery. The Gold in the bottle where connections are made for same, and is to be used full strength. The Silver solution is to be used in the same manner - it is to have distilled water added to same, proportion 2 to 1 - that is, one portion of the solution to two portions of water. With the rest of the instructions, I feel sure you will have little difficulty in knowing just how this works. I would appreciate very much your asking any questions you desire regarding this, and let us know the changes that you notice with the application of same. After the second or third treatment there may be some indications of nausea. Should this occur, just cut down on the time the Appliance is attached - for a few treatments - and be mindful about the diet during that period. There may be a perceptible change in the pulsation or respiration. Also it would be well to note any change in the blood pressure, for

• as we understand from experience - this is to change the vibrations in the nerve system, and is perceptible in the pulsation. Anything of interest that you notice in this connection we would be glad to have you report…”

R4. 5/4/31 Mother’s letter: ”…I am enclosing a check for $25.00 to pay for the Appliance which was shipped to Dr. Kirk to be used for [5483]‘s treatments. In the reading it mentions that ‘this solution should be renewed in four weeks.’ Will you kindly see that a new supply will reach Dr. Kirk by June 1st? Also, if you have not sent the solution of Chloride of Gold and Bromide of Soda (which is to be given internally) to Mrs. Pope, will you kindly do so at once.

“I am very much encouraged since having the reading and more than anxious to get started with the full treatments.

“I cannot help but feel that since you found my girl’s condition so perfectly in the ‘reading’, that you have also found the cure.

“Thanking you for the new hope which you have given me, I am very sincerely…”

R5. 5/11/31 EC’s letter to Dr. Kirk; in reply to Dr. Kirk’s letter stating that he had started with a fifteen-minute period daily with the Appliance for [5483], since no specific length of time had been designated in the reading, and wondered if that was correct: ”…I think you have the proper idea - as far as I can judge from our experience with these - and each week you would increase the time about 15 minutes, until you are giving it for about 45 to 60 minutes [daily] - both the Gold and the Silver application. Longer than that is most too much, I think. You were correct in ordering the Bromide of Soda for the Gold solution to be taken…”

R6. 5/25/31 Dr. Kirk’s letter: ”…It will soon be time to change the materials in the Wet Battery for [5483] and we shall need a complete set of materials except the Chloride of Gold of which I used only one tube and have one left…”

R8. 6/26/31 Dr. Kirk’s letter: ”…I received the materials for the plain Wet Battery for [5483] yesterday, but there was no Nitrate of Silver solution included and I can find no directions for making it. Will you please send at once instructions as to what percentage of Silver Nitrate is to be used in the glass bottle through which the lead wire is run.

“I dissolved the 15 grains of Gold Chloride in 15 ounces of distilled water last time, according to directions for internal medication, and used part of that solution for the Battery applications. If that is alright I could use the same strength again.

“Please let us hear by return mail as to the percentage of Silver Nitrate…”

R9. 7/30/31 Mother’s letter: ”…Thank you for sending the chemicals for recharging Battery to Dr. Kirk. I am enclosing a check for the same.

“We are all hoping for the best from [5483], and I feel sure in time the good will result from her treatments…”
