This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 10th day of November, 1930, in accordance with request made by those in charge.

EC: We have the body here, [5491] - this we have had before. Now, we find conditions still show improvements in the physical forces of this body. While there are times, as has been given, when there seems to be a halting in the improvements - or the body feels under stress and strain from inability of boy to gain strength or vitality, or when the body attempts to exercise the whole debilitation seems to be thrown on the body at once, or it soon tires. Also those pains in head, neck - THESE give distress at times - yet a BALANCE has been attempted, and is being made in the system, through the use of those vibratory forces in the electrical forces, as well AS IN THOSE OF THE MANIPULATIONS IN SYSTEM.

We would not apply intravenously any more of the soda-iodine, but would change into - twice each week - those of the Infra Red rays, and to take IN the iodine MORE we would use the deep inhalations close to or near, or about the seashore. We will find this will CHANGE materially those feelings and activities in the system.

We would also alter somewhat the diet. Do not be too severe, or too SUDDEN in these changes - but add more that will make more blood and nerve building, as the applications are altered or changed in the system. Ready for questions.

(Q) How should Infra Red be given? (A) This should be applied to the solar plexus and below, SHADING the upper portion of body so that the reflection is not on same. This should be given about thirty inches from the body, and from twenty to thirty minutes - Tuesdays - Thursdays, but don’t commence until tomorrow week. Let’s get rid of that in system first.

(Q) Will glasses relieve burning and aching of eyes and head? If so, prescribe lens. (A) Let’s don’t fit them for at least three weeks yet. Then we will find they will be helpful, if properly fitted.

(Q) What causes burning and pulling on right side of pelvis? (A) Those strains in system from the activity of the system as related to the whole of the genitive system, and is the attempt of the body-PHYSICAL to adjust itself to conditions as being changed in the body. Not harmful; RATHER a good sign, provided it is not allowed to become CENTRALIZED, or to make lesions. Hence the full manipulations as should be given the body - all over.

(Q) Any tonic that could be taken to give body vitality? (A) When we change in the diet, and change in those of the bone structural forces in the Infra Red, we should find the body improving. If not, we will change that as will make for the building up of resistance in this direction. Let’s build from the proper basis, and not from just excess fat - see?

(Q) Is body fully cooperating with treatment? (A) Better than it has been heretofore. It may be done some better, yet have faith and confidence in self and that that’s being applied.

(Q) Is it necessary to eliminate any treatment now being given or add any new treatment? (A) We have changed that which is as necessary.

R1. 12/22/30 EC’s letter to Mr. [2], former patient at Cayce Hospital: ”…Mr. [5491], as you no doubt know, went to Richmond. He became somewhat dissatisfied with conditions here and wanted to be where he would get more severe or more determined effort to rid him of his impression, or oppression. The report that I saw from him the other day doesn’t look so good, but I certainly hope they will be able to help him. I would hate to see him confined to a state institution. That’s what they threaten to do at this time…”
R2. 10/6/31 EC’s letter to Mr. [2504], another former patient of Cayce Hospital: ”…I haven’t heard from Mr. [5491] for some time; at that time he was in Richmond but had not responded to those things given him there - which were not, of course, in line with the treatments suggested in the reading…”
R3. 6/4/52 Cousin’s verbal report indicated that Mr. [5491] was in the Cayce Hospital for several months, did not get any help at all. He continued to receive treatments from various doctors, and the only diagnosis she knew anything about was “nerves”. He had been shell shocked during World War I. She said he passed on about 6 years ago.
