This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 26th day of February, 1929, in accordance with request made by her husband, Mr. [5505].

1. EC: We have the body, Mrs. [5506] - this we have had before. In some respects we find changes for the improvement of this body. Those intents as to attempting to assist in the correction through the massage are helpful as far as they have gone, for the body listens rather to the changes and the reasons, but were the whole of the suggestions as given carried out we would find a great deal of improvement for the body. The body would be bettered physically, and the coordinating of the mental and physical would be nearer normal in their reactions one to another, were these suggestions properly followed out. With the age, there needs not be expected the return of the quick wittedness as was so apparent with the body in the present experience in younger years, yet there may be expected - and there WILL be - with the carrying out of these suggestions - the much bettered coordinating of the physical forces. We would do that.

2. (Q) Who would be the proper one to give the treatments suggested? (A) Any good osteopath that would carry out the suggestions as given. Preferably a WOMAN would be better for this body, considering the age and all.

3. (Q) Will twice a week of treatment - the osteopathic treatment - be sufficient? (A) Be sufficient if these are given properly - as much as the body really should HAVE! Do that, as given, and we will find better results for this body. We are through with this reading.

R1. 2/27/29 EC’s letter to Mrs. [5506]‘s husband:

New York City, N.Y.

Dear Mr. [5505]

We enclose the information which was gotten. I certainly hope you will be able to induce Mrs. [5506] to carry out the suggestions to the letter as they are given, or as they were given, for I feel sure that - with the proper application she would get wonderful results. I know we have done so and are doing so, especially with those where we are able to follow up the information very closely.

If Mrs. Thorburn is an osteopath, I’m sure she can get plenty of information concerning our work through members of her profession, that would induce her to carry out the suggestions exactly as the reading gave. There is a lady in New York a Dr. Berger - who is very well acquainted with the work. If Dr. Thorburn would care to communicate with her respecting this, I’m sure she could get the information she would desire. We would also refer her to the following osteopathic practitioners who have had experience with her to following the suggestions given in the readings:

R2. 3/25/29 Husband [5505]‘s letter: ”…I guess I’ll have to apologize for not answering sooner your kind letter of February 27th, you sent with the last reading, but this time it was I who was feeling ill the last week and so had a hard time in doing all that is necessary for me to do under the present circumstances.

“Besides, I wanted to find out first as to how I could arrange everything for the treatments for my wife so that I could let you know all about it, also.

“Dr. Thorburn was asking too high a fee - first 7.00 for each treatment, finally 5.00 - and as I thought Dr. Berger’s fee would be just as high, I asked the Osteopathic Society for information and was directed to Dr. Mildred Perkins, a young lady, living not so very far from us - 125 East 62nd Street - who seems to be an efficient osteopath and, after studying the readings, assured me that she was interested in the case and would endeavor to carry out the suggestions as given in the reading. Her fee is but $2.00.

“I succeeded in convincing my wife that she had to take the treatments and she has got so far four of them - two every week.

“I am very grateful for the second reading, indeed, and I am glad that it stated that the previous treatments have brought some improvement, even if we could not notice it; but I was sorry that it did not say whether we could begin now with the corrections and adjustments under heat. Dr. Perkins, however, did so after two treatments and I hope it will be alright. That is, she gives the heat with a big lamp before or after the other treatment and believes that that is just as good. I hope so, too, but would like to know, please, how you think about it and besides, how many such treatments you think my wife will have to take, about, before we can expect any perceptible improvement.

“I will write you later again as to how we are getting along.

“Meanwhile I would like to ask you to make an appointment for a physical reading for myself…” [See 5505-1.]

R3. 4/7/29 Husband [5505]‘s letter: ”…I wish to let you know that Dr. Perkins said she will check up on the case of my wife after a little while. She told me that there is some improvement in the physical condition, though I am sorry to say that I can’t notice anything of the kind myself so far, after eight treatments.

“Dr. Perkins is a very nice young lady and seems to be trying her very best to help my wife, but I almost begin to doubt that there ever will be any results. My wife is very short-winded and tired out after getting up one pair of stairs or doing some work which requires a little movement, and especially the last days she often felt dizzy and was very confused and forgetful, so that she was mixing-up everything again, but perhaps this is only a passing condition and I don’t give up hope yet entirely…”

R4. 4/21/29 Husband [5505]‘s letter (reporting on his own reading):

”…About the treatments of my wife, I am sorry to say that I had to give them up, as, though Dr. Perkins has tried her very best, there was not the slightest improvement in the condition of my wife after nine treatments and she seemed to be right in insisting all the time that they were useless. Her condition is exactly the same as in the beginning. I must find out whether or not there is some other way to help her. I am going to take the medicine as prescribed in my reading…”

R5. 4/29/29 EC asked Mr. [5505] to get in touch with Morton Blumenthal and David E. Kahn, to discuss with them the possibility of Mrs. [5506] coming to Cayce Hospital for treatment.
