This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of December, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [5539].

Time of Reading 11:15 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Washington, D.C. (Physical Suggestion)

EC: Yes, we have the body here, [5539]. Now, we find, while the body physically, apparently, is very good in many respects, the physical conditions and disorders are rather of the unusual nature, or the effects as have been created in the system are unusual, but are from - as we find - specific conditions. The effect has been, and is, more to the glands of the system, and AFFECTING the body as much through solar impulse centers as through functioning organs themselves. Hence varying conditions as have existed, and specific spells or attacks of acute conditions at times arise, VARYING in their heaviness or severity according to those variations as have been applied for resuscitation of conditions in body. The basis or the cause, as we find, comes from those effects of mercury in the body as applied for conditions specifically and general, and those variations as to whether these have been for the bone - which is an unusual manner in which the sinew and structural portions have been attacked - or whether the attack has been for tissue as related to specific organs, as in reference to the functioning of the digestive system - or whether the attacks have been, as we have seen, for those variations in the impulses in locomotory centers, or as to those conditions as resulted from a form of vertigo which affected directly the base of, or the axis centers in the cerebro-spinal system. These have been, or are, the variations as we find with this body, [5539] we are speaking of.
-
In meeting the needs, or to ELIMINATE these conditions, to overcome these in the system, we will find as much necessity of creating a reaction that will act in the capacity of counter-irritants, as will make for development of resuscitating forces, as related to heart’s action, blood supply, distribution of forces as assimilated in the system - and these will be reached, as WE would find, under these - or this character of application, in a SYSTEMATIC way and manner:
-
First we would take the TIME to find the proper recuperative forces. Then we would begin with an active force, first, with the thyroids - this given, preferably, with the meals, internally - or at such periods, in small quantities - not large, that the reaction may be for the proper assimilation, especially as to the thyroid glands and the varied effect as is produced, both in the kidney and the thyroids themselves, and the soft tissues - as seen in face, neck, arms, shoulders, lungs proper. These, as we find, draw from the system in a manner as to produce the disorders.
-
Also we would have, during the whole period of application for the resuscitation, the manipulative measures, OSTEOPATHICALLY given, in the principal solar centers, as from the solar plexus, followed out through their centers - as from the axis through the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cervical, through the face, neck, head, arms and shoulders; those from the 4th lumbar plexus, as through the lower limbs, lower portion of the digestive system, the hepatic circulation and the extremities of the body.
-
We would also find that those electrical vibrations through the ultra violet and Infra red, the refractory forces of the Infra Red would be more effective with the body were these through the green glass, see? GREEN glass, at least a quarter of an inch thick - through the rays reflected through these over portions of the body, when these are given - these would be beneficial. The Infra red would be given the early portion of the week, or on Tuesday’s, and the ultra violet on Thursday’s. These, as we find, will be effective.
-
As the changes come about we will find it necessary to give those hypodermics of adrenalin, under the supervision of those following out the conditions in the body, for the activity of the heart and functioning of the kidney, at the same time keeping up the rays two times each week and the manipulative forces osteopathically applied, that these centers - particularly - will receive their proper IMPULSES. In this line, in this character of condition - as in most - we will find the effectiveness of OSTEOPATHIC manipulations given as in relation to other modes of treatment, for impulses as received from nerve centers as follow along those of sinew, muscular forces, or tissue itself, must carry the proper impulses for the functioning of the organs as affected by those activities as will be of the assimilated forces as received from the digestive tract, the active principle through blood supply, both to the heart, lung, liver, spleen, and kidneys; for these in their activity are as the seats through which the destruction of forces as are carried through the destructive forces in a body are destroyed, and through which eliminations are carried from the system. Without proper impulses, or these being aggravated by plasm as may be carried in the system, as existent in this, from the functioning of organs, as are influenced by glands’ effect upon that plasm as carried in the blood itself, must become effective or deficient; otherwise, we will find eventually in this body, mortification will set in before the body dies!
-
We would, then, apply these conditions for the body in the manner as has been outlined, in a consistent and persistent manner, for six to eight weeks, and we will find quite a different condition in this body of [5539]. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What diet? (A) That as will be well balanced between blood and nerve diet.
-
(Q) What would be the dose of thyroid? (A) In the beginning be three to five drops.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 12/30/30 Letter: ”…I duly received your report and, frankly, I am disappointed, as your diagnosis does not agree with that made by the leading nerve specialist in Washington, Johns-Hopkins, and the University of Virginia Hospitals.
“You refer to a dose of thyroid. What should I ask for in securing same from a drugstore here and how often should it be taken? I want to try the dose of thyroid referred to, to see if it does me any good.
“I am planning to go to Florida and take sun baths for the winter.
“Kindly let me hear from you as soon as possible…”
R2. 1/10/31 EC’s letter: ”…Replying to yours of recent date, I am not able to give you myself the information which you request in your letter. However, I will take the matter up with our physician and see what will be his report on it.
“We have often found the readings to disagree with many physicians, and we have also found that - where the treatments suggested have been followed to the letter - the results have been obtained as promised. However, if you do not find this coinciding with your own ideas and knowledge as to your condition, I certainly would not advise you to use it.
“I will let you hear from me again in a few days and will give you the information which you requested…”
R3. 1/14/31 EC’s letter: ”…I talked with our physician regarding the thyroid extract, and he says that you can get this at a drugstore. You should get the two grain tablets and take two a day one day, three a day the next day. You could take one morning and evening, and the next day morning, noon and evening.
“You will no doubt realize from your reading that the osteopathic treatments should be taken along at the same time.”
R4. GD’s note: The notation re the thyroid extract attached to EC’s letter was in the hand writing of Dr. Gena Crews, osteopath in charge of the Cayce Hospital which was soon to be closed.
R5. 1/17/31 Letter: ”…I have your letter of the 14th re thyroid extract. I purchased today 50 two grain tablets as outlined in your letter. You failed to mention how long I should take the tablets. It is important that I know how long a period the tablets should be taken, whether for a month or indefinitely.”
R6. 1/21/31 EC’s letter: ”…Replying to yours of recent date, I wish to advise you that the period of the taking of the thyroid extract should be determined by the physician carrying out the rest of your treatment. That is, the osteopath who gives you the other applications suggested should advise you in regard to the period of taking this and the two treatments should work in harmony with each other. I would suggest that you get in touch with a good osteopath, one who will follow out the instructions in the reading.
“Please let us hear from you from time to time, as to how you progress…”
