This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 105th Street & Ocean, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of October, 1931, in accordance with request made by the parents, through Mr. [378] and Mrs. [255].

1. EC: Yes, we have the body and those conditions as surround the body, [5546]. As we find, the physical conditions as are seen with this body have much to do from the individual’s standpoint with the entity’s development, as well as for development for those whom the entity is and will be a care to.

2. There are, from the purely MATERIAL viewpoint, those incoordinations in the physical functionings of the body. These are of such a nature that, while these may be aided materially by close care and persistent attention in certain directions, but for the making of a perfectly NORMAL body in its developments, these will not BE in THIS experience.

3. In meeting, then, those things that would bring for the body the better elements, we would find these will come through those of the spiritual awakening in the minds and hearts of those responsible for the entity’s appearance in this particular experience; and for material applications would be those as may be found from the electronic vibrations as may be had from the appliance as will charge itself, but that will carry into the system - through that charge - the Chloride of Gold in its vibration, making the connections in this particular case direct to the 1st cervical and in the 4th lumbar plexus - see? These we would give each day for THREE to twenty minutes, increasing the period from three to twenty minutes over a period of ten to twelve days; then beginning again at the three minute and gradually each day adding until twenty minutes is being given again; attaching the first anode to the cervical area, the small one; the LARGE one - and last - to the lumbar area, each day.

4. Then, with that care, that attention as is necessary, and with those cooperative prayers and awakenings that may come from individuals or groups who will hold for the entity, as well as for those ministering to the body, those things. These will bring the better conditions, the more active forces, and save MUCH for all concerned. Ready for questions.

5. (Q) What shall we feed the child? (A) That of the well balanced diet, that comes in the present only from the nursing - see? in or from the bottle, but that as will balance the diets, keeping those of the limewater with the milk at times; at others those things that will act with the digestive forces of the system, and GRADUALLY - as the increasing of the vitality and strength of same - these will GRADUALLY be changed.

6. (Q) How can we induce the child to eat normally, as he offers resistance when being fed in any way except from the bottle to which he is accustomed? (A) As we have given, these will come by that influence as must be had upon the purely physical forces of the body, THROUGH the associations of the SPIRITUAL life of the body as it relates to the spiritual, physical and material life of the child.

7. (Q) Should any other food besides milk be given? (A) This and its modifications in the present.

8. (Q) If we carry out the suggestions to the best of our ability, what improvements may we expect? (A) That as is in the development for those responsible, and for the development of the entity. It may be able to care for itself, eventually.

9. (Q) Will he develop sufficiently to take care of himself and not be dependent upon others? (A) That has just been given. Do this at the present. Then as the developments come, we will find that there will be changes, and it will be necessary that there be recharging for the electrical vibrations as may be given the body - see - and, as these are changed, then - these SHOULD be changed every six to eight weeks - then about every twelve weeks there should be the checking, or the CHANGES or alterations as should be made. SEEK aid, counsel, from the SPIRITUAL forces as may bring the awakening to not ONLY the entity, but those responsible from same. We are through for the present.

R1. 10/19/31 Mrs. [255]‘s letter: “The reading of [5546] is so wonderful. How right and truthful the rdgs. always are. The poor little boy is such a hopeless child now. He is 4 yrs. old, can only sit and is so small, like a 1 yr. old. Cannot talk at all. The parents are people in very modest circumstances; the mother intelligent, very religious, has a strain of insanity in her family. Was not at all well after this child’s birth, in fact was in an asylum for a few months. Since then she has had a little girl, beautiful, perfectly formed and very bright, now 3 yrs. old, besides 3 older, healthy children. She is an ardent reader of Weekly Unity and says she has been helped very much through the same. So I thought best if she addressed herself to ‘Silent Unity’ [rather than to the A.R.E. Prayer Group at present]. Their articles on healing are always very encouraging and will help her every week. As regards the battery, will you kindly let me know the price of same? I can then see how Mr. […] can meet the expense of it. I have ordered a booklet by Elizabeth Towne ‘How Children Are Helped by Suggestion During Sleep.’ I hope that might do some good. Altho I wrote them that SPOKEN prayer, while child sleeps, thanking for health, would SURELY do good.”

R2. 11/17/31 She ordered the Wet Cell Appliance. [GD’s note: Tr. with Wet Cell was begun about the middle of Dec., 1931.]

R3. 12/28/31 Mother’s letter: “I think [5546] is responding well to the treatments, although lately he hasn’t been very well due to intestinal disorder accompanied by bloody mucus. But he is on the gain, I’m sure.”

R4. 1/9/32 EC wrote that the A.R.E. Prayer Group had been holding some special meetings to pray for [5546].

R5. 1/14/32 Mother’s letter: ”…I am very grateful for whatever the group has done and may do for little [5546].

“The thought has come to me lately that perhaps I have held the negative idea regarding little [5546]. Because I did not see the usual results it gave me the idea that no matter what I did for him he did not improve. But as I have been willing to consider all phases of the subject, I know that the power of God is the strongest force and we must not believe that there is any force working in opposition to the force of all - good. Whatever conditions appear to exist, God is able to restore His own. Also, all things work out for good.

“I used to be a Christian but let myself believe the principles were alright, but did not try to apply them. Recently I see that Christianity is practical, it can be applied to our everyday tasks, that we can think constructively and do see results. Therefore, I am trying to live accordingly and to realize that [5546]‘s condition need not prove detrimental to his welfare, but rather has proven a blessing in bringing his associates nearer God. Also I feel that the prayers and thoughts of others have done much to bring about the change of which I speak.

“Little [5546] looks much brighter, acts more rational and I feel sure he is improving since he has had the battery treatments…”

R6. 1/22/32 EC’s ltr. to the mother of little afflicted [5546]:

My dear Mrs. […]:

I want to thank you for yours of the 14th. You no doubt in the very near future, if you haven’t already, will hear from some member of the prayer group here. I assure you that at each meeting, and each day, the group are very sincere in their desire to be of help to your boy, and naturally to you; for we all realize that most of the help must come through your ability to hold FOR him that expression of love that we try to manifest in our own hearts towards him; for as we send out what we believe to be the healing forces to cooperate and coordinate with that being attempted to be accomplished by the use of the appliance given, it must radiate into the lives and hearts of the individuals about that special one to whom the thought and prayer is directed. We know that God is able to raise up an individual whom He may see fit to use as an example of His love in this world, and the combined efforts of many to create such an atmosphere through His love and watchful care, I’m sure must be helpful to each and everyone connected with such an individual. That He has seen fit to give what is seemingly a burden to many of us is apparent to all, but He has not seen fit - as He has promised

• to lay any burden on anyone they are not able to bear in His name. If we attempt to do this alone, then it really becomes a burden indeed - but in Him there IS life, light, and understanding. Let us all realize that we have need of those cares that are our lot.

When you do hear from the group, be sure to keep in touch with the director of the group. While I am trying to be of assistance, as you very well know it would be practically impossible for me to do ALL the work myself, and it is with just as much love that each and every one of the group remember you and [5546] in their prayers day by day.

R7. 1/26/32 Mother’s letter ordered chemicals for re-charging the Wet Cell Appliance; indicated she would like a check reading soon for [5546] and stated that she had made it a habit to join the prayer group regularly at seven A.M. and six P.M. in offering a spoken prayer for [5546]: ”…I sincerely appreciate the efforts being made to restore our little son…”

R8. 2/12/32 Mother’s letter: ”…Am glad to learn the group is praying for [5546]. For the past few days he is apparently failing…”

R9. 2/13/32 Mother’s telegram: ”…[5546] passed away nine o’clock this A.M…”

R10. 2/14/32 Mrs. [255]‘s ltr.: “He accomplished his mission, to bring his parents closer to God.”

R11. 2/23/32 EC’s letter expressed the hope that her husband [Mr. [5672] who was ill with pneumonia] was on the improve: ”…You no doubt are feeling that you have had about as much as you can stand. We are trusting that our considered effort has enabled you to gain some spiritual insight that has proven that bulwark of strength during these trying times. Possibly [5546]‘s passing has been a hard thing for us all to understand, yet we must know that God in His mercy knows what is best for all, and while He has lent us his body for the time being that we might know the love, the care and the supplication that might be made in his behalf, I am sure that he has gone on to greater things.

“We will be glad to hear from you and to keep in touch with you. Know that our whole desire is that you may know the love, the strength, that may come in God’s blessings to us - though they may come at times in the guise of trials and tribulations.

“All of the group join me in this, and know that as long as you wish we will remember you in our prayers. We hope that you will join with us, for we need your strength, even through these trials that have come to you so very personally…”

R12. 3/10/32 Mother’s letter requesting Physical Reading for her husband [5672]:

”…Somehow I always had the confidence and faith that [5672] would regain his health. For this strength I’m sure I owe much to the group who were praying for me. As I expressed it to the physician in charge, I could always see clearly for Mr. [5672], but was never able to see clearly for little [5546]. And when I felt willing for little [5546] to go, he just seemed to slip away sleeping the while. There was never a struggle, he seemed happy to go. And I know it was God’s will. I had done the best I knew how for little [5546] and always wanted him to be a happy, normal child.

“I have had strength, much strength to bear these trials, and thank God, the all - Giver…

“You may inform the group that I will diligently pray with them at seven and at six and thank them for their prayers and wish them continued, as I still have much responsibility in caring for Mr. [5672] that he may gain perfect health…”
