This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of April, 1929, in accordance with request made by her mother, Mrs. […] - and by her cousin, Mr. […], via Mr. David E. Kahn.
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, New York. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Now, we find the body here - [5547] and those conditions physical and otherwise as surround same.
-
There may be much said, and there has been much written, concerning conditions of this nature - yet these conditions and the characteristics of the condition produced in the physical forces are as varying as individual lives and as individual response to material or to mental conditions in this material world.
-
These conditions, then, are much of a prenatal character, and would be necessary to go much into conditions as surrounded the advent of the physical being into the material plane and as related to conditions as surrounded same, for the full understanding of cause of conditions, as WELL as into that of the development of an ENTITY in its relation to the material, as well as to the cosmic or spiritual, or psychic plane.
-
That particularly interesting to the individuals seeking that as may be helpful to this material manifestation at this time, will have more to do than with the conditions of the present. There is seen there are improper coordination of the sympathetic, cerebro-spinal, and the plexuses’ reflexes to the material body - as well as the distribution of impulses from the nerve system, as relating to coordinating of activity in the physical functioning of the body; and again we find there are reactions in the physical that apparently have little or nothing to do with these conditions that are troublesome, these being purely a physical reflex of assimilated forces. Hence there are the combination of conditions to be considered in administering that as would bring bettered conditions for the body. These may, as WE find, be MATERIALLY aided - yet will require time, patience, endurance, long-suffering, much change, and many contributing forces - both from the physical and cosmic forces and influences, to bring about the proper relations of the physical, the mental, and the responses of same in this body; and unless those so in charge of the conditions - mental, physical AND spiritual - intend to carry out these suggestions as may be made, NOW, and from time to time as respecting these conditions, then well that they do not even begin in part.
-
First we would give that there be the administration of those vibrations for the system as are in accord with the necessary vibration in the special physical entity, that will bring a coordinating material force in the activity of the body for the proper response of the physical body materially to that of the mental body, and aid this in the power of suggestion as these administrations ARE made in such a manner as to build that as will bring PROPER coordination of same. This, as we find, may be accorded in this way and manner: First construct such a vibratory recurrent machine, as this:
-
To one gallon and a half of rain water, add (This should be placed in a stone crock):
Plain Charcoal…1/2 pound, Plain or Common Bluestone…1 1/2 pound, then Sulfuric Acid C.P…1 ounce, and Common Zinc…6 drams.
This solution, as we see, would ordinarily make a low discharge of electrical vibratory force - but for this body should be charged to such a charge as to make a DEFINITE discharge from its activity when applied to the body for a vibratory motion to be set up in the system, so that the discharge of vibration from the body itself will be in accord with the charge from the machine or battery as to make concurrent forces in system build along the vibratory centers of the cerebro-spinal and sympathetic system definite conditions in the body. Hence we would place two poles in solution, with a wooden top covering the container - the poles extending ABOVE the top an inch or an inch and a half, one pole being of copper - quarter to half an inch in length - or breadth and thickness, the length sufficient to reach above the top of pole, the other of a nickel, same proportions in length, breadth and thickness. This, then, should be charged with 60 cycles of a 120 volts for 35 minutes, see? We will find the discharge at that time will be near 12 1/2 ohms.
-
Now the machine or battery is ready to be attached to the body.
-
We would annex, then, leads of copper wire (insulated) from each of the poles - of sufficient length to be easily attached to the body. The one from the copper pole should have thin copper plate, see? the one from the nickel pole should have thin German silver or nickel plate to attach to the body, see? These would be attached, one to the small of the back - or OPPOSITE the solar plexus center, between the 9th and 10th dorsal. The other would be attached to the wrist. First the right and then the left - attaching the COPPER plate to the wrist first, then the nickel or German silver plate to the solar plexus radial center. This should be applied at least twenty minutes each day for the first five days. Then REST three days. Then begin again and attach for at least THIRTY-FIVE minutes each day for at least five days. Then rest three days, and attach again each day for an hour, until the solution or the battery shows that the discharge has equalized with the system, until there is no discharge from the battery. Then solution should be renewed, and this kept up until another discharge has been completed. Then we will begin, after the second discharge of machine, to the coordinating of the system - with the proper massage as would be given at that time, with the proper diet that is to be assimilated in the body.
-
If this is to be carried out, begin with that as given - and we will assist as conditions progress. This is the proper manner for the handling of this body, [5547]. We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/5/29 EC’s letter: ”…As you will see, I have sent copies of this reading to Mr. Kahn and to Mr. [554], who will no doubt be able to help you understand the reading as to what is to be done. Mr. [554] had a similar battery to prepare for his little son [4613] and has gotten remarkable results. I am sure he will be glad to talk with you concerning this. Please keep in touch with us, advising us your decision in the matter, and if we can be of service in helping you to understand the reading and carry it out we will be very glad to do so…”
R2. 7/8/29 Mother’s letter: ”…Since receiving your instructions for construction of battery for [5547] I have been unable to secure the parts. I am anxious to carry out your instructions and I wonder if you could furnish me everything to construct the battery with the exception of the rain water and the stone crock which I can secure here. Could you give me a better idea of attaching the battery to the body by sending a diagram. As soon as I receive the battery and begin treatments I shall be glad to let you know how she is improving from time to time. Thanking you for the interest shown, I am.”
[GD’s note: These questions were enclosed - apparently expecting a check reading on the child’s condition: “Is there any abrasion on the body in any way affecting the child’s faculties? How can alternating current charge a direct current wet cell without a converter? How can a discharge be measured in ohms? How does the physical body discharge electricity? Is this child normal mentally?”]
R3. 7/17/29 Dr. Thomas B. House’s letter: ”…Yours of July 8 received, and in reply will say that the use and construction of the batteries are confined to the Cayce Hospital to be able to get the parts and use of same it will be necessary that the patient come to the Cayce Hospital. We find it very unsatisfactory allowing the patients the use of these batteries or trying to carry out the treatment as prescribed either in their homes or other institutions; therefore, we are limiting the treatment, as suggested by Mr. Cayce, to the Cayce Hospital at Virginia Beach, Virginia. Should you desire to send patient here, we will be very glad to follow treatments in detail, as Mr. Cayce suggests. With kindest regards,” CAYCE HOSPITAL by T. B. House, M.D., Chief of Staff - TBH/sca
[GD’s note: Naturally we heard nothing further from the mother regarding the treatment. This is an example of one of the many ways in which the readings were not followed. After the reading had given explicit directions as to building the appliance and EC had written a letter encouraging the mother to come to him for advice, this letter went out under the Cayce Hospital auspices repudiating all that had been said about desiring to be of help to the patient.]
R4. 3/29/30 Membership Renewal Form Letter sent to Mr. […], [5547]‘s cousin was returned with this notation: “Please cancel my membership.”
