This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 W. 35th St., Va. Beach, Va., this 8th day of February, 1930, in accordance with request made by self, Mrs. [5604].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 4:45 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ga. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, Mrs. [5604]. Now, the conditions as cause the distress are produced through the lack of vitality in system and the lack of rejuvenation of the replenishing and rebuilding forces in the system; yet, as we find, the system may be aided in gaining much, and relief may be given for the cough and for the distresses as are produced in system by same; replenishing and rebuilding the system by aiding, without producing distress in some other portion of the system. This is not produced by the bacilli, yet, known as tubercle, but is rather that of the weakening of the bronchi and of the blood as it supplies the energy to the throat, bronchials and lungs.
-
Then, reviving the blood and replenishing for the system that ability to throw off and to prevent irritation in same.
-
We would first be mindful or careful of the diet, that it consists of those foods that, while easily digested, are blood and nerve building in their nature. Be sure that olive oil, in as much quantity as will assimilate with the system, is taken - the pure olive oil, half a teaspoonful twice a day. This will aid digestion and the activity of the liver in aiding blood building. At least once each day take codliver oil. Let the diet be also of calves’ liver at least twice each week.
-
We would use for the cough, and to reduce the irritation, that of the inhalant as has been given for the relief of same. [340-5?]
-
We would also use, for strengthening the system, the Radium Appliance, wearing this at least six hours each day. Not necessary to be worn at night, unless lain across the chest or throat - when irritation comes from lying down. The inhalant should be used, not too much - but whenever there is irritation, and this will reduce irritation. Taken too much would produce hard on the digestive system, for this body, but taken or inhaled DEEP mornings and evenings, and - if NECESSARY - during day or night, deep inhalation, through the mouth, will be fine. Do that. Ready for questions. We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/13/30 EC wrote her, sending the reading and telling her where to get the Radium Appliance and saying that he would have the inhalant mailed to her from Virginia Beach. He invited her to spend some time at Cayce Hospital while carrying out her treatments, etc.
R2. 2/20/30 Letter: ”…Thank you so much for your kind letter and helpful reading. I am using the inhalant as directed and feel encouraged mentally to do my best to follow your suggestions, expecting to be really benefited. I am writing for the Radium Appliance literature but cannot now take on any other expense. Later I may be able to purchase it.
“Indeed I would be glad to have what I believe your Cayce Hospital offers, and some time may find opportunity to enjoy it.
“Often I think of the wonderful results in little [5566]‘s case, and I think how God has blessed you in your work. You may remember that [5566]‘s mother was my pupil and is still my treasured friend.
“I am not delivering your kind remembrance to my son as I do not want him to know I have written to you, because I have been (and am still) ‘in the care’ of one of the finest of the doctors in the Medical Corps of the Army, but I have been, apparently, not improving as I hoped, and felt discouraged just to go on and on. He is also an intimate friend of my son and is unremitting in his attentions to me. I am boarding in …, Georgia, to be near my son who is stationed, since last June, at Fort Benning, so am not in his home. From him I have all a tender doctor and son can offer.
“I enclose check for inhalant and another mite as a little acknowledgement of your valuable assistance…”
R3. 3/24/30 Letter: ”…Your kind letter came a few days ago, and this morning I received one from your Research Department, the answer to the latter enclosed. [Cayce Hospital, Research Department - Dear Friends - I am following your suggestions as contained in reading of February 8th as much as I can do at the present time and feel that I have been benefited. I thank you for your cordial interest and will write you every few weeks. Please do not write except as necessary, using the enclosed envelop, as my mail comes now through the office of my son, who is a doctor, and as I am under his care and the care of his associate physician he would be offended with me for consulting anyone else.]
“More than I can express, I do appreciate the help I have received in encouragement and physical benefit. The inhalant has lessened the cough trouble, and I am taking the olive oil and codliver oil as you suggested, and with my son’s tonic think my appetite better. Of course, I have not gained any weight yet, but hope to do so, as I feel stronger the past week. I thank you for the offer of the Radium Appliance, but cannot use it now as I am soon to be in my son’s home. I hope you will not misunderstand my request and desire that he will not know I have consulted anyone else, as I have his care and that of one of the highest-ranking doctors in service here. When my son practiced in …, Alabama he was with Dr. […] whom he admired greatly, but unless I were in …, Alabama, I would fear to offend him by consulting even this doctor by mail. It seems to me doctors are especially sensitive in such matters. But be sure I will write you every few weeks, and will keep up my treatment as best I can… I really expect to improve more now that I am ‘coming through’ some trying business matters which have disturbed me very much. Pardon this long letter. If you write, kindly use the enclosed envelope instead of the official one…”
R4. GD’s note: I imagine Mr. and Mrs. Cayce received further friendly letters from Mrs. [5604], but they are not in the A.R.E. files.
Background
Background
B1. 2/3/30 Letter: ”…The picture you made of my son in May, 1918, in uniform is before me as I write.
“In January, 1929, I had flu - in bed several weeks - and, in February my husband was also taken sick, and lived only one week.
“For me, the light of life went with his going and I have not yet been able, in body or spirit, to take hold of things which we loved and worked in for so many years together.
“My son took me immediately to his Station (he is still in the Medical Department of the Army) in New Jersey, and the severe climate and the longing for old friends in …, Alabama, seemed not conducive to regaining health or peace of mind.
“Just now I am in …, Georgia, and somehow feel impelled to write to you for diagnosis and treatment, as my thoughts turn to your success where others have failed.
“I am up almost all the time and do my best to hide the gloom of heart, and try to ‘build up’ by taking tonics and food and milk, etc.
“But the cough left by the flu has never been entirely overcome - not much during day, but a bit annoying on first lying down and in early mornings.
“Have rarely any pain - weigh only 95 pounds - same as for several years - but so weak. I do not know that you need these details (and my age 71 years) but send them anyway.
“May I hope to hear from you soon, and in perfect candor, as I would not be afraid to hear my real condition. Of course, I thought it might be some T.B. trouble and I would want to protect others in the home.
“Kindly send bill for this service which will be so gladly paid at once.
“My kindest regards to your dear wife, and the boy I recall was so fine and handsome.
“In closing, let me ask your indulgence for such a long letter…”
