R2. 9/26/29 Wife’s letter: “Sure was glad to see you yesterday and think your visit did Dr. [5618] a lot of good… Dr. Lydic said Dr. [5618] is better this morning. He gave him a more thorough treatment yesterday and this morning. Dr. [5618] said before the reading his treatments were good but not long enough, didn’t relax him and that was what the reading said. Sure wish I had that reading down.”
R3. 9/28/29 Mr. [195]‘s letter: “I have just returned from the hospital and find Dr. [5618] not resting well and Mrs. [760] considerably worried at the apparent setback. The liver won’t work and Dr. [5618] was resting so poorly today that Mrs. [760] didn’t put on the fomentations as suggested by the reading. In my talk with her I intimated that if Dr. [5618] would stand for it that it would be advisable to apply the Castor Oil to liver this evening. She seemed to be so upset that I said I would talk to Dr. Lydic about holding a consultation in the morning if she thought best.”
R4. 9/30/29 Mr. [900]‘s letter: “I had bad news from [195] over the telephone this morning regarding Dr. [5618]. [195] seemed doubtful that the Doctor will pull through. They did not seem to be applying the Castor Oil packs consistently, and I told [195] how this should be done, as we had this experience with [140]. [195] also said that Dr. [5618]‘s psychology is against him, as he feels his own pulse, and seems to believe the end is near. This, in itself, works against his improvement, and seems to have been a detrimental factor ever since that doctor [?] treated him in …, Va. and started him mentally on the down path.”
R5. 9/30/29 Dr. Lydic’s letter: “I wish to advise that I am carrying out your instructions to the best of my ability regarding Dr. [5618]. We had some little trouble getting the light treatments but I have taken my burner down for use and that is all adjusted now. It is a bit difficult to take care of the diet since Dr. [5618] can’t retain the foods that would help him or else he just doesn’t care for them.
“As a whole his condition in general is better. The liver is more active, the edema is better and the heart is not laboring as it had been but he is still a very sick man and the outlook is not very favorable. I have suggested a consultation but I shall be glad to follow any suggestions you may have.”
